Because we have thick, plastic-plated skulls. No but seriously I agree with you. Apparently when Hero Factory was the main constraction line (I wasn't around at the time), some people were complaining about the Heroes because they were robots and therefore couldn't have emotions or personalities. And yet they evidently did. And you're absolutely correct, it is very common for story robots to have emotions and such. Star Wars, anyone?

Why is it suddenly so disturbing for normal reproduction (even for a biomechanical race) to be a possibility? Because that happens in nearly every story. Obviously TLG doesn't focus on it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Side note: what a strange conversation this is.

Well, there was also the Turaga keeping secrets. And the Toa Nuva almost dying. And the Toa Nuva almost dying again. And apparently Lewa's katana got broken? Not to mention the mind-controlled/brain-dead Matoran. And how Karzahni fixed them. And that the Matoran Inika should have died on their journey to Voya Nui. And... And the Piraka rap. *Shudders* Those were dark days.

"Some days you just can't get rid of a Skull Spider!" In regards to the "darkness" of the summer wave, right now it's what one makes of it. Other than what DV said, we don't yet know how LEGO will treat the villains. Heck, we don't even know if they can speak or not.

It's available in February for most places, but March in North America. I can't get it yet either for that reason.

Blended gold masks? Cool! Too bad Gali and Tahu don't have any in that WAIT HOLD ON A SECOND I HAVE AN IDEA In the promotional image of the pillar holding the MoUP/Skull Warrior mask, as well as the box image of Mask Maker vs. Skull Grinder, we see red and blue streams of energy coming towards the pillars. The only blended masks that don't exist are Masks of Fire (red) and Water (blue). Could it be that Tahu's and Gali's masks are stolen and completely drained of energy by this point? That would also explain the silver Mask of Fire on Skull Grinder, it might have been Tahu's. So what happened to Gali's if this is the case...? Anyway. I like all of them bar Skull Slicer; his colour scheme seems a little jarring. Also not a fan of his having a Skull Spider mask.

You sure? It'd make more sense if the back of the hammer were turned in order to fire the front half. Of course, the way PoE's star drill is built, it's not out of the question for LEGO to put a gear in the middle. But I don't see how they could build a stable hammer with a gear there. *Waits patiently for better pictures*

Oh, one more thing. Everyone's talking about BIONICLE's "low budget" (idk if this is true or not), but remember: they can't spend the whole budget on this year because they have 2016 and 2017 lines to develop as well. Might be why the sets appear so bare-bones. Might not be. It makes sense that they are, being skeletal and all.

I think the gold Toa masks are placeholders for other masks because 1) there's not much of a point getting a power-up mask for a figure you don't own/duplicate power-up mask, and 2) only four of them are featured; Tahu and Gali's masks are completely absent. However, the "skull villains stole the masks and are guarding them now" idea has some credibility too. With as little information as we have, deciding what is true at this point would be silly. Anyway. I'll just let the set discussion sort itself out and wait for more finalized pictures.

-The ruins don't seem so much post-apoc as post-cataclysm/whatever, but I get your point there. It IS exciting to have mystery back. -As for the skull spiders being actual villager skulls...I'm skeptical. Considering that 1) the villager skulls are likely their head frames, which look nothing like the skull spiders, and 2) the skull spiders are face huggers--it's really hard to hug a head with another head--that scenario seems unlikely. I know it was said here before, but a story does not have to be dark to be complex or good. Does the darkness add a dramatic element? Sure. But there are many other ways of doing that. Which path TLG will follow yet remains uncertain. Also, I think it's really funny that people point to 2006 as the darkest story year. Because when I think of 2006, all the animations of the Piraka being incredibly stupid come to mind first.

Everyone seems to think an Ekimu hammer would be only static pieces or only shooters...why not half-and-half? One side shooter, one side normal pieces that can be turned to use the shooter. Makes much more sense from a design standpoint than two shooters on one hammer...

Sounds about right; I trust him for that reason along with his many years of articles. The new armor add-on(s?) sounds rather interesting. Not sure if it's actually gonna look cloth-like or more like torn metal, but either way, it might add a cool new aesthetic to the CCBS lineup. *Hype*

I'm guessing Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder will be US $30 (maybe $35) and the others $15 (one or two twenty if we're unlucky). Overall I'm pleased with the affordability of the wave.

I'm all for this idea. Would be horribly ironic for us Gen 1 fans: what was a symbol of hope and light would become the face of evil. Either Makuta gets it back and wreaks havoc, or a seventh Toa could don it as before. Which begs the question, would the Toa be made evil by the mask? Or overcome its inherent evil and use it to fight Makuta/whoever else? The placement of the prongs on the animated MoUP is not close to the Avohkii as we know it, but that could be because 1) artistic license and/or 2) the new design is reminiscent but significantly different. Or they're not supposed to be related. But hey, speculation's a thing.

What bothers me about the webpage flaws is not that they were there to begin with, but that they haven't been fixed yet. We're two weeks into January but the issues are mostly the same as they were when the site launched. Either TLG hasn't noticed the errors yet (unlikely), or they still haven't told anyone to fix them yet. Or they won't...

Mind control allows them to control the body too. That's how both the infected masks and the krana worked in Gen 1, it makes sense that the skull spiders would be able to do similar. How does that weaken the point? Are you talking about the eyeholes of the masks? I think DV's talking about the heads themselves, not comparing the mask in that image to the skull spiders. They do seem to be the same heads; the way the eyes tilt at the edges as well as how narrow they are make it appear so. Ooh shiny. Can't say I've seen it before but it's good to see the Toa together as a group. Don't think that's happened yet in the animations.

I'm hoping that's not the case...in fact, I'm actually hoping that these guys aren't elementally aligned in the traditional fashion at all. Seven of the eight years of the Inside-Mata-Nui-Robot story had a villain for each of the elements, and in my mind, that got tiring. Especially when the heroes wielded the same elemental forces as they did. We can probably figure that it won't a a full group of elemental baddies (five sets instead of six), so I hope they're either mismatched (some have them and some don't) or that they don't have them at all. LoSS and the Skull Spiders don't seem to have elemental powers as it is...

Got Kopaka, Tahu, and Gali yesterday to join Lewa; hope to pick up the last two and perhaps some protectors today. The sets are awesome; don't think I found many Gen 1 sets this cool.

Were you expecting it to not be a gimmicky mobile game? Because that's exactly what I assumed it was. I mean, if you look at the archive of online Gen 1 Bionicle games, pretty much all of them 2004 and onward (and some in 2001-2003 as well) are about as involved as this. While something like MNOG would have been great, it was unlikely from the start.

We also, as far as I'm aware, don't know what the Skull Spiders can do. We know they can attach to Toa and Protector faces. But does that allow a Spider to use mind control the way Krana and infected masks did? Or does that simply incapacitate the victim? The comics don't shed light on this (unless there's something I haven't seen which is a huge possibility). Maybe Onua won't have to fight a mind-controlled Lewa for once.

Some very interesting developments recently. I have nothing to say that hasn't already been said, though I'll throw in my opinion that the mask on the back of the Bionicle pamphlet is probably not the Mask of Ultimate Power. Probably...

Possibly. Though I find it unlikely that we would "flash back" after only half a year. I've considered that the Toa use their gold masks and the Mask of Creation to wake Ekimu (assuming he's not perma-dead) and have him fight with them. (EDIT: Kapura'd by Voxovan on that one) But I find it unlikely that Ekimu would be awoken in only half a year of story, either. Or perhaps that set alone is a flash back; the skull legions were fought off by Ekimu (and Makuta? and Protectors?) some time before this story, and now they are rising to power once more? *Scratches head*
