  1. I'm concerned with the rubbery material drying out over time and cracking. I have some concern with the section where the wings overlap, but I think I'll always have the wings folded out all the time anyway. Otherwise, he seems sturdy enough in the joints.
  2. Because I have two Lego stores in my area and I order bricks from the Lego site, I probably won't be getting one these again just like last year. If I just shopped at one of the two stores then maybe, but I think I'm spreading myself out too much, so to speak.
  3. Well, I think at this point there's a very strong consensus that marvel is on the scene in such a large way, it would be foolish to not try to incorporate all of their movies in Lego form. With how quickly these movies will be churning out, Lego will need to modify its two waves per year model to accommodate all of them. Which would be a large undertaking, but given how completist collecting all the marvel minifigures could be, it makes sense for Lego to try and roll out as many as possible. Especially since the final two part avengers movie will probably include nearly everyone.
  4. Ridiculously epic! As mentioned, it looks even better with the bar fully packed. That's a great way to display so many minifigures in a recognizable setting. I also like the small vehicles around it.
  5. Agreed. If Lego used Smaug for a fell beast the scale would be off, but Legos scale is always off to some degree. It could also be that Lego could shrink the Smaug torso to make a fell beast torso, as it's easier to reduce the size of a mold then create a brand new one.
  6. Anyone else think the brick built section on Smaug's back could be an indication that the body portion could be used for a Fell Beast? I can't really tell why else it has a brick built potion of the body.
  7. As much as I'd love another LOTR set, I can't see Lego doing that under the Ideas umbrella. If they did it could create a precedent that current licensed themes could see creations through Ideas, when Ideas is best served for totally unique and new properties.
  8. I used to have plastic containers that were adjustable with individual compartments, but I've now reached the point where the compartments are not specific enough. I basically have too many weird bricks. My solution is to be less picky and I have each color dumped into two large bins. One for small bricks, less than 1x3. The other for everything else. I still keep baseplates separate, though - anything 4x4 or larger gets kept out.
  9. These are coming back to Lego stores. Just found maybe 12 at the local store. It is limit one per family, though.
  10. Built Lonely Mountain on Friday and it was very impressive. Initially I thought the set was overpriced and boring, but once I built it and saw it in person, it was alot more interesting and I'm considering ways to add to the set to complete a dwarven throne room. I really like how the whole set is dripping with gold bricks, which makes for a very lavish and realistic dwarven hold. Plus there's Smaug. And he is vastly impressive and huge. The wings are very well executed. Even though the price is high, after I completed the set I felt like it was worth it.
  11. Very well done and nicely posable G1 Prime! Is that Nemesis Prime or Scourge creeping up on Prime in the last pic...?
  12. Bionicle is a better deal for Lego than LOTR. No license to pay for, no sets/ideas to be approved, all straight control and profit. Same as with the Lego movie stuff pushing back the winter wave earlier this year.
  13. Hit a Walmart and found a looted box. I did manage to get the jester, video gamer, battle goddess, and luckily, a wizard. It was quite a surprise because I thought I was getting a princess because of the hat but once I opened it I was pleasantly surprised at the wizard. Overall, I'm very impressed with this series. I agree the head gear doesn't quite fit in place as nicely, but the figures themselves have really solid, nice printing. I would say this is probably my favorite series thus far.
  14. I think alot of companies didn't quite know what to do with the hobbit license. Bridge Direct stopped making action figures for the movie almost after the first one came out. Gentle giant makes a couple busts, but those will be no where near a finished line. Weta makes expensive prop replicas and statues that linger at online stores because very few people are paying that much for those types of products these days. Lego is really the only one towing the line for hobbit in the toy aisle.
  15. Faamba's were much larger than Banthas. They were the large dino like guys holding the gungan shield generators.
  16. Whereas I have no use for geonosian clone troops, this is another instance where I'm glad Lego has enough initiative to try something like them. Sure stormtroopers are at the top of alot of lists, but making something unique that hasn't been done before is always my preference. I would add that I'm surprised about the shadow troopers. Those scream Hasbro 2007-2008, I'd have thought Lego would have tried them at that time. As for rebel stormies, I have yet to see the show, do I can't judge. I'm not even sure how long rebels will last with the upcoming movie...
  17. I hope Rocket is a buy-in promo, otherwise if he's just a store exclusive available for purchase individually, he'll get scalped pretty hard.
  18. Great review! Unfortunately I will pass hard on this one. The price is too high and feels like a bit of a grab on a near dying line. As an MOCer, I also can't justify it as a brick buy. The dwarves are nice and that's about it. At least it didn't come with another Gandalf...
  19. Totally brilliant! Would never thought to use the Simpson heads as masks. It works really well. Maybe you could expand the shop with a Chima one next door...
  20. You have to look at the environment outside of Legos. You gotta know Hasbro and a number of other toy companies will be gearing up Ep VII products by maybe Oct, Lego should not allow itself to be left out by banking on their usual winter wave in Dec.
  21. Great review and pics! Definitely worth grabbing at that price on amazon.
  22. I'm betting the summer 2015 wave is almost a mini-wave or a wave with nothing spectacular. Then Lego makes a fall wave with Episode VII stuff. You guys probably remember the prequels where you couldn't go into any retail/grocery/etc store and not find Star Wars stuff. I'm betting Lego couldn't afford to wait till 2016 to release Ep VII stuff.
  23. Looks great! That orange paint is a perfect match. Did you varnish it at all?
  24. I had some problems last night on the shopping page with explorer. I would go to look at all of a given line, like Star Wars and it would redirect me to the main page. After awhile, I just gave up. Similar thing happened about a month ago with the pick a brick page not loading the max number of options for a given brick. Also on explorer.
  25. I think it's a great set for the price and brick count, but I wish I had a reason to army build it compared to other sets in that wave. AT-AT and the Cantina are good army builders and I have two of each so far - might try to get another AT-AT, but I'm good on Cantinas.
