A-Team van and steering stuff
kieran replied to vmln8r's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
nice one, brings back some memories, you really got the van captured very well in a small package, and the steering is excellent, would build this to show the kids if I thought they would have any idea what the A-Team was -
A fast and cheap way to store your trains. Here's how.
kieran replied to robt's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Nice idea, I like to see mine so they are all over my office not great. I really need to get some proper shelf's up and display them properly. i can see how this solution stops the sun bleaching them and the dust getting all over the place. -
funny, I really miss the old boxes as well, not sure it was just the wonder of a young boy or just a better way to present the product, I liked the way the new or special pieces received special treatment in their own plastic tray, oh well the good old days I guess. I like building sets as Lego designed then, changing them up and creating things from scratch, so to me Lego is the perfect building medium, however you look at it

8043
kieran replied to Councillor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
so easy to do, all the old sets were 4.5V which is 3 batteries, you have a cracking model by the way, the 8043 was the first fully studless set I bought after by dark ages (not including mindstorms). -
When I was young I had a flying helicopter toy that had a pivoting boom, on one end was the heli and the other a counter weight. The controls allowed you to throttle the main motor to gain height and rotate the boom to move forward or backward. not real flight but was fun and allowed the toy to get up a fair bit of speed, this sort of assisted flight will defiantly be possible with pure Lego, just a shame that real flight will not, not with that is currently available anyway.

The old ones feel very different, much smother and not like silicone at all, not sure what they were made of but its not the same. The wall is also thicker

don't see why not, I guess the main issue will be getting the wheels to work with the non l-Gauge track. There are loads of examples of people creating custom drive solutions using PF, including some to mimic the old Monorail system from Lego. like this one http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=77105

That seems to be the general thoughts, in the mean time take a look at http://www.mindsensors.com/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=107 or http://www.hitechnic.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=NIL1046 both will allow you to control your existing PF stuff via the IR receiver from your NXT

Possible rare wheels?
kieran replied to Jimny J's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Have to agree, the time will come when this is common place, i think its a good while off yet though, sure you can print with off the shelf colours gut getting the exact match that would be needed colour and finish wise is not right round the corner, not at hobby rates anyway. If you like the wheel and think you could use it then I would say keep it and show off a finished MOC once you are happy, else sell them on and get something that is more in keeping with the things you like to make, either way good luck -
Brick Sorting Excavator
kieran replied to legomuppet9's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
very well thought out, complex systems in small packs, and all off one motor, well done indeed -
I second that, when I filially get a fixed layout this is what i am aiming for, lots of little details that make the whole look so good, nice work

Better gui?
kieran replied to Grimofdoom's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I guess you mean free HD space and not RAM? anyway for me the best solution is NXC and you can code using the excellent BricxCC editor http://bricxcc.sourceforge.net/ best bit is its all free and you dont even need to change the firmware on the NXT meaning you can still play about with GUI from the LEGO CD if you need to, have fun -
I think Jopie|K is talking about this page http://www.philohome.com/

I would also like to know which motor? a link would be good

That central steering is really nice, very simple in the gear train but looks to be very strong, very good performance on the truck
