  1. Thanks! As qiadris PMed me his credits I now have more than enough!
  2. Great job! That floor especially is really nice as is the angled wall! I think there might be a bit too much detail on the walls in places, but still excellent work!
  3. Saying how many you're missing on each would be nice, but I suppose it's okay as is. The one I didn't +1 I'll comment on here: Reclaiming the Fort - Seeing how you haven't got any +1s for this one yet, I'd suggest you take back your claims. It looks too incomplete for either category. The one side of rock is nice, but the other one really detracts from it. And the fortifications are a little too predictable.
  4. DoH +1 for studs up rocks and cliffs and mosaic. I do think with a bit more time you could have done a better job on the mosaic, but it's pretty nice.
  5. Actually, as long as they're under a month there's not much problem with bumping a thread (provided it's not something like, 'nice!'), especially in this case, where you're bringing something new up. Nevertheless a good idea to be on the safe side, and thanks!
  6. I'm missing a vote on my Rounding up the Herd. Also missing two on Stranded but that's more recent. I think I've voted on all the previous ones that have been mentioned just now, but if not please let me know. It seems that we have four more or less regular voters which puts those of us who are one of the four at a bit of a disadvantage! Also, just in case anyone is holding off not trying to be a bother by not reminding us, please do go ahead and pipe up any (reasonable, like you know a week after posting) time you're missing a vote or two, either here in the Kali thread or the DoH thread... personally at least I can never be sure if the Registrar's thread is up-to-date (and it can be quite complicated given all the different formats) - plus I don't want to sift through dozens of comments just to see if I've given a build a + or not (though that seems unavoidable anyways)...
  7. Well, given that, we feel for those Mitgardians who have to spend their time picking whatever crops grow in their chilly climate and cleaning up after themselves instead of enriching their guild!
  8. Kaliphlin has out of sight the best map and we don't claim places! Who are worth as much (maybe more) than every other individual! (Even good ol' Flagg used to be a slave!)
  9. I think the entire topic is made way too much of. Believe it or not, a kid isn't too concerned about whether the figs they are playing with are female or male. Peer pressure may influence them but you can't expect LEGO to be able to do anything about that! The same goes for every other influence. Personally I usually prefer male figs (I am a FFOL). I don't know why, just for some reason I think they're cooler. I don't particularly like Friends (especially the mini-dolls) - in fact Ninjago is one of my favorite themes (though I don't particularly like any of the female characters). Maybe LEGO does stereotype girls to a certain extent, but you can't get around that. They have to do the same with boys - come on, is every boy interested in being a fire fighter or a policeman - or a knight or ninja? How come people aren't crazy over the fact that there are very few male chiefs, scientists, etc? It's the same with girls. Yeah, they aren't all interested in the friends type stuff. So what? LEGO has to cater to the majority or it will loose sales (and yes, though you may have run across plenty of kids who didn't fit the mold, they aren't the majority!). If the 'stereotype' ever changes, that will be reflected in the sets. What you see in the sets (and the same goes for virtually all products) is a reflection of what society is like... not the other way around! (Yes, they can have a subtle influence - especially a perpetuating influence I suppose, but, again, it's inevitable. When society changes, products, including LEGO sets, change as well.) You can't expect a toy company - or any company - to lead in something like that - they'd just go bankrupt!
  10. He did a great job on this one! Personally I like the yellow roof a lot (though a brighter blue for the stream might have offset it better), and the tan rocks look great! I had never thought about using tan for a chimney, but that worked quite well!
  11. That made me laugh! Thanks Gideon! Yes, that would have been an improvement... though sadly I think could count all the other color blue bricks I have right now on my fingers... Thanks!
  12. Great work, the colored leaves on top of the net are particularly eye catching! Good job on the posing as well! +1 for all your claims, though I would have liked to see a shot of the whole thing with the roof on.
  13. Yeah, current status of the rules seem to indicate that that is the case, so go ahead!
  14. Great job! The ice mounds the Mitgardians are standing on are really nice, especially the shaping of the first one!
  15. Great FP! Nice work with the editing too!
  16. Thanks! nivremis nailed it there! Thanks Gunman! Thanks kabel! I'm afraid seeing what I can do with lots of bricks is far in the future... as a matter of fact right now I'm away from the majority of my brick collection and am working mostly with what I got from a couple PAB cups and the MMV (Medieval Market Village)! (Thus the repeating theme of light blue!)
  17. I see what you were going for now... actually pretty good, a clearer picture would have done the trick!
  18. Ah... I was kind of trying to focus on the bird but I do see how a focus on the fig would have been better.
  19. A definite improvement, much easier to tell what's going on! I would guess that the reason for the dk blue slope is lack of other pieces? If so, I'd suggest that you use two solid color slopes to give at least the impression of a pattern. Eg, this, but in your case with a solid color giving the middle decoration.
  20. I'll give you +1 credit for the round tower! The vines climbing up the sides add a nice touch as well. I do think you could do a better job on the landscaping though - why is brown dirt and grass on top of stone?
  21. That's certainly understandable, lack of bricks is always a problem! It's true that a lower angle doesn't allow you to see absolutely everything, but you don't really want to see absolutely everything. Plus, from such a high angle, there are limitations on seeing things that really are interesting - like the minifig combos, tree trunks, etc. If you look over other builder's photo angles you'll probably notice that they aren't quite as high! You did it right! I'll give you +1!
  22. Thanks! Yes, greater depth would have been nice, but (at least on the larger one) I didn't quite have enough light blue to pull that off. And I'm working with a rather limited amount of bricks! Thanks SK! Thanks! Thanks! Excellent idea there, tilting the sky would definitely have improved the FP!
  23. Have you read the DoH thread? If you still need more explaining I can do that, but if not I'd suggest you read it first, and maybe check out a few examples. However, I'm not sure what sort of credit I could give you for this build. From what I can see of the trees they look fairly simple (which is not necessarily bad, just not going to get you credit). I could maybe give you minifigure posing if you asked for it. A tip on the landscaping - usually a path is sunk below the surrounding landscape (especially a dirt one) as it's more likely that it (the path) has been stomped into existence rather than that someone dumped a pile of dirt right there (and even in that case it would soon be stomped down into the grass or washed away). With the hill, a bit more green plates (not just flower stalks, but actual plates), and not so many straight lines would probably improve it. Yes, both those additions eat up the bricks fast, but they vastly improve the landscaping! Also I would suggest that for the future you try to get an overview picture that's not from quite such a high angle & includes the whole build (not cutting off parts of the trees, for example - makes it look more professional). Looking at it from the top makes it less realistic (when do you see a scene from that angle IRL?), easier to spot faults in the landscaping (a lower angle would hide the straightness of the hill sides a bit more), harder to see the minifigures or get a sense of the action, and harder to get a nice clean white background for the entire thing. For this particular build, it's understandable that you would want one shot from that angle to show off the archer in the tree, but the other ones should be a bit lower! (If you're taking pictures on the floor, you should be on your elbow at most, would be my suggestion.) I hope that helps you, I wasn't trying to sound too critical, just give you some tips!
