General questions about buying LEGO in the US
Faefrost replied to Ojik's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The insane thing is when TRU takes older out of production sets and puts them on clearence at yet another 10-20% above the already inflated TRU prices. No joke my local TRU has a bunch of Sith Furies on blowout clearence of $120 -
2015 The LEGO Movie rumors and discussion

Re why was Fox able to use Viper in the Wolverine movie? Because Viper was more or less moved to be one of Wolverine's arch-nemesis' in the Wolverine solo books. Fox's license is not simply "mutants" but "mutants" and "primary supporting characters and villains". This is why they can use "Lady Deathstrike" even though she first shows up in Alpha Flight, or they can use Henry Peter Gyrich in the first movie (granted the character was unrecognizable thankfully) even though he is more often associated with the Avengers.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Lost Missions
Faefrost replied to commanderneyo's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I never said they were the last episodes planned. Just they were the last put into production. In the introduction video they also talk about the planned stories that have been turned into the Dark Horse comic and the Ventriss / Quinlan Vos story arc that is becoming a Christie Golden novel. -
I just happened to have the spacesip Spaceship SPACESHIP instructions sitting on my desk and I noticed in the big full page ad for the three new sets, the ssS the Construction Mech and the Dropship, on the back page of book 2, the picture of ssS that takes up half the page does not have the flex hoses. It's weird. The construction mech shown is the set version not the movie?

Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Lost Missions
Faefrost replied to commanderneyo's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Rejoice Clone Wars fans! Disney / Lucasfilms have done something unexpected today. They have publicly and officially released the last 4, raw, unfinished episodes of The Clone Wars on Starwars.com. It seems like a 4 episode ObiWan / Anakin Utapau arc as they search for a Jedi's killer. The voice work and chemistry between Matt Lanter and James Arnold Taylor would seem to be some of the best in the series. And some of the moving flying battles really make me wish that these episodes had been finished. They would have been gorgeous. http://www.starwars.com/video/the-clone-wars-legacy Granted the animations are just the placeholders and look like a 90's Playstation. But the voice work is all finished. And the stories seem great. Perhaps the best element is we finally get a little bit of closure re Ashoka. At least from conversation between Anakin and Obi Wan. Oh and in a related note unfinished Magnaguard animations look surprisingly like Lego droids. -
General questions about buying LEGO in the US

The taxes are weirder. Sales tax is a local thing in most states. Not even a blanket state tax. So sales tax will vary by city or county, not state. Also some states will have a sales tax some will not. Your brother happened to go to the most expensive Lego store in the US and the one with one of the highest tax rates. (NYC is horrible for taxes). In the US sales tax is calculated at the register and is not part of the "advertised" list price for these reasons. (It's also the merchants will not mask the government taxes by bundling them into their pricing.) -
I don't think it's an infinity stone. I'm not sure what it is yet, but possibly not one of the stones. It seems a bit less over the top world shaking powerful than those. Maybe something of a different pantheon or alien group than the Asgardians? The Kah stone perhaps? On the plus side I take it as a good sign that season 2 dove full on into the MCU no more beating around the bush. Nazi Hydra, Peggy Carter, the Howling Commando's and an actual clearly recognizable named comic supervillain!!! A real one! A scary one! One that gives the Avengers trouble in the comics! And is dead on perfectly presented here. (ok they left out the ball and chain. I can live with that.). Heck above and beyond the shear coolness factor it is a brilliant ForkU to the Ang Lee Hulk movie. "See this is how you do that villain right!" Maybe... I'm not sure exactly why, but somehow the back half of season 1 and this episode keep making me think of the epic yet often overlooked stories in the classic old Marvel Two In One book. The Project Pegasus and Serpent Society stuff in particular.

Did I misread the character description or does she not supposedly have a certain unhealthy fondness for fire and explosives?

I'm not sure Deadpool can really carry his own movie? He suffers a bit from the Jack Sparrow problem. On screen he would be interesting as the quirky other guy in the room, but as the main protagonist that needs to carry a story and have a character arc? God help me for saying this but a Cable and Deadpool movie would probably work better? (And that is hard for me to say. I view Cable as the absolute single concentrated embodiment of everything that went wrong in the 90's. )

Not all stores have the damaged box goods. After some questionable abuses by a few store employees all damaged goods go back to regional get inventoried and palleted up and then are sent to a limited list of specific stores for clearance. generally the stores with better back room storage and floor space. The stores that have the damaged boxes will generally have a table or pedestal of them near the register. They only put a bit our at a time in order to spread the stuff around. If your store has the damaged goods table it also never hurts to ask if they have what you are looking for damaged in the back. As I said they don't put it all out at once. I know here in the Atlanta, GA area the Sugarloaf Mills store has the damaged good table, while the Northpoint store does not. The "non Lego Lego stores" such as those at the Discovery Centers will not have the tables as far as I know.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Faefrost replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
As someone that has built their own designs, the elevated piece counts from MOC's are more often than not the result of fully tiling all floors of the building. Plus maybe a bit of extra furnishings and interior details. The actual building structure you really can't do a lot with in terms of part counts. You are going to eat up close to 2000 parts just getting the 32x32 with three floors. -
It looks like Marvel's official Plot Synopsis for AoU has confirmed what we pretty much all already realized about the Visions MCU origin. Yes he is in fact Jarvis in new form. (and no I'm not spoilering this one. It's not a spoiler when it is the official press release for the movie.) http://www.escapistm...synopsis-Vision Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series The Avengers, first published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Marvel's Avengers:Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around "Swamp Police"... What will they think of next? Arctic Police? SCUBA Police? Tundra Police? I figure we are a year or two out from Lego going full on meta turning in on themselves and accidentally releasing a "Fire Police" line, thus causing the universe to collapse in on itself. (And yes I know Fire Police are actually a real thing. But for the love of god please nobody tell Lego that!)

Faefrost replied to ocifant's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No chance whatsoever with that. Marvel is ticked at Fox and is allowing NOTHING that might play into what is looking more and more like Fox's horrible FF movie. No FF Merchandising permitted for the foreseeable future. They are even mothballing the FF comics lines. -

If licensed it could be interesting? - there have been rumors of a huge Death Star replacement looming. May or may not be SW? - there isn't much in the way of "huge" licenses out there unexploited at this point? Maybe Power Rangers or Star Trek? Those are the only Huge franchises I can think of in their target range? - given the timing, the 6 colors and the "HUGE" maybe Big Hero 6? With the Huge referring to Baymax? - maybe something like a broad Nintendo partnership? If unlicensed? Maybe a huge D2C Space Base? Or it all could just be the public announcement for Bionacles return. Remember most people don't see or read the rumors and spoilers we do. And to sane normal people out in the real world, many of who grew up with the line, that would be huge. Just going by the 4 picture I am leaning a little towards something Classic Space. It has the 6 colors. It is made of old classic colors and parts. Old greys, yellowed whites. Radar dishes. So at least this teaser leans that way. But that might change tomorrow. -
I hate to say it, but this looks like a better and more accurate World of Warcraft theme than what Megabloks produced. And call me crazy, but I think I kind of like it. There are tons of neat colors and parts and designs here. Stuff that I can really make use of. The sail alone... Plus I really really like the idea of a girl focused Fantasy Theme. I just wish it wasn't the creepy Minidolls. (We hateses the Minidolls yes we do! Hateseses them! They steals the precious...)

I'm not sure what everyone was expecting, especially after hearing the names and price points? The ship is almost exactly what we expected. And honestly it does not look bad for the price point. In order for us to get more Pirate sets there must be a new generation of Pirates fans. They have to start somewhere. About the only sets that I don't like the initial look of is the Soldiers Fort, which looks too paired down, and the Shipwreck Defense which looks like nothing. The rest are actually pretty good. The Soldiers Outpost looks great. I think we will be much more pleased once we see the minifig prints and final parts. And heck, we're AFOLs we can certainly detail these up. The ship looks like a better starting point than either PotC ship? At least it has rigging on both masts.

I think the Castle builders will be drooling over the banners in those Battlepacks.

New Theme Being Announced at New York Comic Con 2014
Faefrost replied to Pheonix1604's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Why is everyone turning themselves inside out expecting a whole big Dr. Who line? What is it with this boards ability to leap to conclusions, produce over the top wish lists, a host of unrealistic expectations, then go into a poop storm of fan rage when it turns out that what they were not only expecting but demanding not only isn't being made, but was never really even in the ballpark of consideration. The new theme announcement will probably be Bionacle, or something similar that we have heard rumored but not announced. A dr. Who theme is highly unlikely at this point. We might see a one off Ideas set, maybe. But I hate to break it to you all, but after Character Builder just did lousy with that very license, and KreO did poorly with Star Trek? It's likely not in the cards. If Lego was to do a Dr. Who theme it would not be now. They certainly would not be announcing it now. Remember It takes 2 years to develop a licensed theme? And Lego would certainly use that time in this case as they would want the license to lay fallow for a year or two to allow remaining CB product to exit the market space. This assumes that it would be a license they would be interest to begin with, which is not a safe assumption. Dr. Who trends older than most of Legos core audience. Plus it is a hard thing to quantify into good play sets. You know actual fun toys and not just nerd display pieces. So everybody stop, take a deep breath! Switch to decaf! And wait to see what they reveal. It's not going to be anything completely off the charts or unexpected. It will probably be Bionacle or Top Gear. JW is more of a long shot as the movie is still too far off to do any reveals. It might even be their new Elves theme (and let the rioting begin) or showing off the new Pirates stuff (nobody specified new license did they?) just relax. What comes will come. Just remember to have reasonable expectations, and in some cases don't forget to take your meds. -
Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
Faefrost replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
The interpretation of the blue varied a bit over time. Plus many later reprints seemed a brighter blue because they were printed on a bright white heavier grade paper and not the original yellowed comic paper. But it was often a very very dark blue black. The best contrast for blues can probably be seen is GS XMen #1 when you compare the dark "scuba suit" blue of cyclops with The blue in Thunderbird or Nightcrawlers outfits. -
I bet it's a 10,000 piece JarJar Binks statue. The last thing George Lucas signed off on before he sold. Just an extra special love letter to the true fans.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Faefrost replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Way back when we first heard of this I speculated that if it is a Detective Agency, it probably would go for a film noir type feel. Think Sam Spade, Maltese Falcon, Chinatown type feel. That's the kind of story that seems to fit into the tastes of some of the designers we have seen so far. As far as distinct architectural style. Art Deco, US Chinatown or a New Orleans French Quarter would be my guesses. -
:cry_happy: The Brown Wind comes at last! Well they did say we would be getting a new colored Ninja. And I gotta confess I have always wanted a Dareth. He's weirdly my favorite character from the show. This total shlub who still manages to win the day in a pinch. I think he uses oneof the CMF faces. The Mechanic maybe?
