Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Faefrost replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
They no longer discount D2C damaged box sets. But they do increase the VIP points for them. So a damaged box Townhall could be 2x or 3x VIP points. Not sure if that would in turn double during October? -
I gotta ask looking at those movies and also looking at the conflicting madness that is their (far superior) television universe. Is something seriously broken in DC's Brand control department? see at least over in Marvel they have their TV Universe solidly under the same aegis as their movies. So whatever appears on the small screen may cross back to the big screen consistently and vice versus. It's a gimmick and AoS suffers a bit for it, but it means that the general public has clearly recognizable versions of the characters to work with. Marvel understands that the viewers can separate say animated Spiderman from Sony Spiderman and to avoid conflict or confusion avoids thing sthat come too close (ie Spider woman). But DC? I mean they are planing a Suicide Squad movie? They just had SS in Arrow, using major recurring characters. And they look to be bringing Tom Hardy back in Suicide Squad... but not as Bane? This is what as known as a Hollywood cluster fluq. And it looks like it is running up and down the DCU plans?

What a clever design. That looks to be made principally from Lego Technic parts. And looks fairly simple and common. I'm not an expert in Technic but I suspect if you cross post this over into the Technic and Mindstorms forum the real engineering Genius's over there could probably work it out in minutes. It really is a brilliant solution to the expensive adjustable modified game controllers. Have you inquired if the designer is willing to share his plans? ( granted he may have just free built it.)

Not entirely true. There are an assortment of clear universal flight display stands for plastic models. That's what those are. http://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljlist?GenreCode2=all&Word=Display+stand&x=-637&y=-128 There are some. This is a good universal type that can be used for Lego stuff http://www.hlj.com/product/LFTFP-400/Sup

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

Nien numb is Lando's copilot. His sister Ten Numb is a B Wing Pilot. -
Occasionally something non Lego will spark my interest and I will try it out. Although more often than not the cons seem to out weight the pros. Case in point Megabloks new Asassins Creed Ship. I love ships. I like AS. It was fairly inexpensive for a ship and I had been hearing how much better Megabloks had been getting. So I tried building it last night. Note I said "tried" Yeah it is that bad. Flash and poor QC make the mast in my set near impossible to build. The actual color quality brick to brick is atrocious. Something they seem to mask by doing swirled camo or weathered bricks. But where it is supposed to be solid same colors? It isn't. I should not need to take modeling tools like jewelers files and ax to knives to a brick set just to get the pieces to actually go together.

Lego has done better with a Middle Earth toy license than any other company that has ever entered into one, save perhaps Games Workshop? It's just not a property that sells children's toys hand over fist. This is I think the 4 TH major push for it I have seen since I was a kid, and by far the most succesful of them all. But it doesn't change the fact that there seems to be a limited or niche market for the stuff. There is a reason why Lego was the only toy maker that came back after TUJ. We can cry, moan, curse Lego all we want, but we can't make them grow a market that has been shown over and over to not really be there. We've gotten 5 waves of Middle Earth subjects. That pretty well doubles most other licenses and surpasses our reasonable expectations. Even without a Gondor set.

A LEGO reality show... a good idea or a bad one?
Faefrost replied to XAxles's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think you could create a really interesting documentary around a Lego design competition leading to a position. Something along the lines of the "Indie Game" movie documentary. I can't really see it as an ongoing reality show however? -
That pretty much IS what happened with the comic series back in the day.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Faefrost replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
This will depend heavily on which Modular we are talking about. TH will be problematic for Bricklinking. Because it has so many uniquely colored parts there will be a an issue where the price of the set will be driven up by the price of the parts and vice versus. TH will end up more expensive than PS or GE. -

All of the large D2C sets get scarce in October due to the double VIP points. I would not read too much into that. The big question is more what stock remains in channel for which sets in which regional production area. TH is a good case in point as we are getting hints that there is probably a healthier remaining stock of European product for that set while The North American version may be nearly gone. I would not read anything in what does or does not appear in the seasonal catalog. FB lasted two years after it vanished from that. Others seem to come and go. Also as weird as it sounds do not go 100% based on either the store employees and certainly do not base things on CS responses. The CS staff typically knows nothing about future scheduling. This is by design. They will never know more than we do beyond what is currently in stock in the warehouse right now. All they ever see is current product info. This is normal for any company. The store employees will have more reliable info as they get info from marketing that CS does not, but they are often surprised. Things they cannot reorder today may be available again next week. Or it may just show up on the truck. My point is don't read too much by what is out of stock in October. But also don't wait too long in grabbing the GE, TH or PC. Chances are TLG wishes a minimum of three Modulars on shelves, but probably does not really have viable shelf space for many more than 5. So whatever sells out now most likely not be rerun as there is a new set deep in the production chain that will land faster than any restock could. -
No one has said they can't change. What everyone has said is we do not see any signs of it and feel it is unlikely here. We know what going back and extending a line based on fan pressure looks like. Look at Ninjago. But doing that requires keeping the line and IP alive during the ramp up for more. When they do that there will be a dead spot with the theme out of production. If this were the case with LotR we would see teasers and talk. They would let the customers know there was more to come. In short there would be a subtle marketing campaign before we started seeing signs of new sets. We also know what it looks like when a licensed theme ends. LR, PotC, IJ being the closest examples. They simply fade. No marketing. They quietly sell through the last wave until the shelves are cleared. LoTR is particularly problematic for Lego. It has strong AFOL support. But falls largely flat with Legos core audience. As an AFOL targeted product line it would easily do as well or better than the Modulars in the D2C market. But the D2C stuff cannot pay for the expensive license on their own. Licenses in most cases need full retail release. And yes Ideas manages to pull off some low volume 1 shot D2C licensing of older properties. That is a bit different. That is baked in from the ground up.

I just noticed the agonies Pirate ship hit 10k. It could be a neat set. I'm a sucker for ships. I just wish a true cool pirate ship would make it.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Faefrost replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'm sure they are not set in stone. And they probably do not have an ordering yet beyond which one is next. They probably just sketched out some rough plans and a direction of what they would like to see. It also does not mean we will see 5 more. The things still have to sell well to keep going. I'm sure we can guess some of them. I'm also sure that if they are thinking 5 buildings out they are not thinking anything too exotic. I'm thinking 2019 is not planned as a massage parlor and Sushi restaurant. Probably things like Bank, School, Hardware Store, Amsterdam Brothel. You know things commonly found on a Main Street. -
Is that a return of the classic sloped skylight pieces that were used heavily in classic space?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Actually it was mainly the Exo-Suit and Research Lab where people panicked. But it was not unsourced or simply assumed. It was based on rather clear comments from Mark Stafford. Plus the evidence that the Mars a Rover had only been made in 10,000 pieces and went almost exclusively it seemed to third party merchants. They did this last year too. They had a bunch of big stuff hitting right after Christmas in January. Remember that is when stores need a big restock as they have been mostly stripped in the Christmas rush. The PR came out In this January wave. -

Lego's avoidance of alcohol has always been highly situational. I think the main thing is no alcohol references in modern settings such as City. But heck they have Inn's and Taverns in Pirates and Castle and Western. Modulars with their more adult focus and the earlier period settings might just be outside their restrictions, if they can keep it in a certain context. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I agree with this. I love the PR as it does feel like the most evolved and in many ways most complete of the modulars. While it does not have the shear scale of the TH, in it's compact frame it packs such a bevy of eye catching detail that it is easily the one that viewers to the shelf city in my office keep coming back to. I personally love the stories framed within the Modulars. It is a wonderful tool for adding depth and interest to the sets. If the wonderful FB has any flaw it is that it somewhat lacks this little thematic story compared to the newer offerings. But honestly its a fire house so the story kind of tells itself. Jamie started a great tradition of having little character scenes in the sets. (I always loved the pantsless guy in the GE dressing room). Astrid broadened that out to center the stories around the overall nature of the buildings, from the wedding at Town Hall to the child star movie premier with the PC. The PR seemed to bring both styles together with that simple elegant wedding proposal at the nice French Restaurant. -
The most telling thing that the line is not simply discontinued, but that the license will be coming to a close is that Elves theme. I think if they were keeping the Tolkien in effect they would use a different name. Maybe Faeries or such.

These are growing on me more. I actually kind of like the ship. Yeah I wish we had some different sails, but I do like the color scheme of the ship. And I like that the price point puts it in range where this is not simply another AFOL ship but let's it be the first beloved Pirate ship of the next generation of scurvy dogs.

The models wings move. When you push in one of the engines the wings slide out revealing the spring missile launchers that otherwise sit under those blue car roof pieces. In the two pictures above the top movie still has the wings retracted although the blue roof pieces are for some reason in the open position. The second picture of the physical set has the wings fully extended.

Looks fantastic! But why do I keep hearing Dennis Hoppers voice as I look at it?

It's likely that the silver helmeted troops are not Stormies. And if you all have not figured it out yet, we have one good chance for some classic Stormies looming. Lucasfilms has been known to give a boost to their game properties. Well the next big game release involving Star Wars will be the EA/Dice developed Star Wars Battlefront. Which looks to be very very OT focused and seems to be gunning for film authenticity. I think a Lego Battlefront Battlepack is well within the realm of possibilities.

Someone around here came up with a really nice solution to that last year. They basically tiled and plated over a 32x32 baseplate so the front had the normal modular sidewalk, and the HH was sitting on another foundation layer. This foundation only had a few studs securing the HH on one side. The other half of the house sat on tiles. Thus it could swing open without detaching it.

Mine just arrived today and it is wonderful. Heck the drug store plans alone are worth the cost. But I love all the exterior detail tricks they show off and teach. I thought there was some sort of internal moratorium against using Friends colors for System sets? Or is that just City?
