[ENTRY] 6500 A Promiscuous Sailor Captain (Mini Set)
Mister Phes replied to JopieK's topic in Pirate MOCs
@JopieK, this takes the prize for originality at least! But how come it's hidden? It's not limited to being an in-staff joke, is it? -
That's a good choice - in the previous version it looked like the good Captain was holding a coffee cup!

[ENTRY] 1872 Imperial Guard Camp Remake (Mini Set)
Mister Phes replied to thewatchman's topic in Pirate MOCs
This is a fresh take on a somewhat obscure set! Was there any particular reason you used Nutcracker? parts Was it due to lack of Imperial Guard torsos? -
Splendid! Good to see you're aiming to create a new set! It a way, it's a fleshed out version of 1492 Battle Cove.

[CONTEST] Magnificent Mini LEGO Pirate Set Examples
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
Thank ye for sharing! Aye, they're fine modern misrepresentations of old classics -
I think what we're supposed to take away from that advertisement is; the older generation who grew up with the toys are supposed to continue enjoying them as they did as a child, and in the process, inspire the younger generation to feel the same love for them.

Not LEGO but relative to modern children not caring...

[CONTEST] Magnificent Mini LEGO Pirate Set Examples
Mister Phes replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
Are there any MOCs in the style of Classic Mini LEGO Pirate sets we should include? Post your suggestions and images here... -
Mini Set Building Category Design a Mini LEGO Pirate set containing less than 50 pieces that would have traditionally retailed for less then $6/5€/£4. The prize is a set of your choosing to the value of 35€ which is currently available on your local LEGO.com. VOTE FOR THE WINNERS! ENTRIES CLOSED! New entries will no longer be accepted in the Main Building Category New entries will no longer be accepted in the Mini Set Building Category New Creative Critic registrations will not be accepted. Those who have registered for Creative Critic but have not provided feedback to entries will automatically be disqualified. Who is going to WIN? VOTE NOW! Like main building category your entry can be: 1. A new Classic-Style set Imagine you're a designer working for the LEGO Group and you've been tasked with designing a small classic-style LEGO Pirate set. The emphasis is building a creation that could pass as an official LEGO set. The design could be pure classic 1989-1997 style or modern like Barracuda Bay. But REMEMBER: these sets typically had around 30 pieces and there is no requirement to max out the 50 piece limit. SUGGESTION:, a small set or boat set was never released for the Imperial Armada - so here's an opportunity to rectify that. 2. Modernise/Update an existing Classic set Which small classic LEGO Pirate set could benefit from a modern makeover? And we stress: the objective is NOT to create a full blown MOC based on an existing set! You goal is to take the charm and simplicity of the original design and put a modern spin on it. Existing Sets More Examples of Mini LEGO Pirate Sets Want to build something LARGER? Want MORE prizes to WIN? Enter the Main Building Category where without the piece restriction and the opportunity to WIN second and third place prizes. How to Vote Click the VOTE NOW button to be taken to the Voting page. VOTE NOW! How to Enter You will need a Eurobricks account to enter this contest. First build a Mini Set MOC meeting the briefing criteria. Create a topic in the Pirate MOC Forum using the prefix "[ENTRY]" AND the name of your creation in the Topic Title. For example: "[ENTRY] 6235 Buried Treasure Remake" Inside that topic: Please note this is a Mini Set entry. Post as many images and supporting information as possible. Be sure to check back regularly and reply to anyone who posts in your topic. Remember, the more activity your entry topic(s) receive, the longer your topic(s) will stay at the top of the forum - and the higher the chance of being seen by future voters! Entry Limit You may post as many Mini Set creations to the Pirate MOC Forum as you see fit in order to receive Creative Critic feedback. However, you may only submit three entries for Mini Set Voting. So use the Creative Critic feedback as an opportunity to determine which of your creations are likely to be most popular with voters. Frequently Asked Questions I have already submitted a Mini Set build in the Main Building Category - can I change it to the Mini Set Category? Yes, providing: The creation is less than 50 pieces You acknowledge that entry is no longer eligible to win a 10320 Edlorado Fortress What if I have already submitted a Mini Set build in the Main Building Category but it's more than 50 pieces? That entry can remain in the Main Building Category but you may create a second version within the 50 piece limit to submit to the Mini Set Category. Can I submit a Value Pack containing multiple sets like Barnacle Bay? No. Keep it simple. One set design per entry. It you want to submit multiple set designs, please create a separate topic each. My Mini Set remake contains 50+ pieces and is significantly larger/complex than the original version, can I enter that? No. You're defeating the purpose of designing a Mini Set. Can I submit a minifgure or parts pack? No. While some of these sets contained less than 50 pieces the emphasis is on building a new design. Can I submit a micro build? No. Classic Pirate sets are minifigure scale. Can I design a smaller version of a larger set? Yes. Providing you're able to achieve the design within the 50 piece limit. Do my entries have be pirate themed? Yes. Therefore, no Castle, Vikings, Adventurers, steampunk, etc. entries or posts, or even cross-overs. Must be Pirates. What does "Classic-Style" mean? It implies a design heavily inspired by official LEGO Pirate sets, released 1989-1997, 2009-10, 2015 or 2022 Barracuda Bay. Therefore, 4+ Pirates, Duplo Pirates and licensed themes are excluded, so no entries based on Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan, etc. This extends to figures from Fabuland, Friends, Bionicle, Galidor, etc. Do I need a Eurobricks account? Return of the Classic Pirates Contest Inspiration for designing Mini LEGO Pirate Sets In the Classic Era, each year The LEGO Group would release a small set (or two) containing around 30 pieces. What they lacked in size and part count, they made up in charm and ingenuity. We haven't seen them in almost 15 years... In the 2000s they were called Impulse sets but they have since vanished. So here's your chance to rectify that in the contest's Pirate Mini Set building category! And if you know of any MOCs inspired by Mini LEGO Pirate sets, don't hesitate to post them in this topic. 6235 Buried Treasure Released 1989 | 20 Pieces 6245 Harbour Sentry Released 1989 | 25 Pieces 6234 Renegade's Raft Released 1991 | 38 Pieces 1481 Pirates Desert Island Released 1991 | 21 Pieces 1464/1696 Pirate Lookout Released 1992 | 17 Pieces 6247 Bounty Boat Released 1992 | 36 Pieces 1492 Battle Cove Released 1992 | 26 Pieces 1889 Pirates Treasure Hold Released 1992 | 34 Pieces 6237 Pirates Plunder Released 1993 | 21 Pieces 1970 Pirates Gun Cart Released 1993 | 31 Pieces 6236 King Kahuka Released 1994 | 45 Pieces 1713/1733 Shipwrecked Pirate Released 1994 | 23 Pieces 1795 Imperial Cannon Released 1994 | 36 Pieces 1871 Pirate's Cannon Released 1994 | 15 Pieces 1872 Soldiers Forge Released 1994 | 28 Pieces 1873 Pirates Treasure Released 1994 | 45 Pieces 1747/1802 Treasure Surprise Released 1996 | 22 Pieces 6232 Skeleton Crew Released 1996 | 28 Pieces 8396 Soldier's Arsenal Released 2009 | 17 Pieces 8397 Pirate Survival Released 2009 | 16 Pieces 5003082 Classic Pirate Minifigure Released 2015 | 24 Pieces

6235 Bo'Sun Will and Spinoza (as the set was known in my region) was the first LEGO Pirate set I ever purchased. I still vividly recall that day in Kmart when I noticed it upon the shelf by chance. I remember looking at the box and it just seemed so perfect for something that was so simple... it captivated my imagination like no other toy had. It was only a few dollars so I made my first LEGO Pirates impulse buy... and there began an obsession which would last decades...
-
That design is perhaps more in the spirit of the original set. Whereas the first design is almost the equivalent of 6260 Shipwrecked
-
The small set category has not yet been finalised or announced... But to stay true to the spirit of those small sets in the $3-5 price range which were around 30 pieces, the new category will probably have a 50 piece limit...
