  1. That is a fair point as it does rely upon the honesty and integrity of participants as to when their entry was actually created. The reason is everyone has the same amount of time to build something for the contest. Nonetheless, I'm open to further opinions on this matter, so if anyone else cares to share their thoughts on this matter, please do so... But later this week there will be an announcement that turns this suggestion on its head.
  2. So do I... We might be up to rustle up a small prize for a small entry division. But first we need open an opportunity for those who are not in a position to build... That's a great attitude! There might be other ways you can participate... and win a prize... stay tuned... Would that be fair to those who spend the time building an entirely new creation for this content? The FAQ states: Can I enter creations I've already built? No. Your entries must be built after June 28.
  3. Currently there is only one prize so that makes categorising by size redundant... But you do make a good point - your suggestion is worth considering should more prizes become available... Excellent - you are one of the all-time great ship builders!
  4. You have the necessary experience to do well in a contest such as this!
  5. I would also assume this to be the case. A pre-existing market was the impetus for releasing a new product based on an existing product, but to maximise profits, the manufacturer must develop the new product to appeal to a wider market. Having said that, the press release specifically addresses fans who grew up with the original set:
  6. The Classic Pirates are back with a brand new contest giving YOU a chance to win a 10320 Eldorado Fortress set kindly provided by the LEGO Group. To enter, either design a new Classic-Style set or remake an existing Classic set or both!
  7. Also, I need to mention that I'll be away from June 28 to July 27. You may start posting your entries LEGO Pirates MOC Forum from June 28 onward but if you require a prompt reply to your question(s), you'll need to ask them prior to that date.

New entries will no longer be accepted in the Main Building Category New entries will no longer be accepted in the Mini Set Building Category New Creative Critic registrations will not be accepted. Those who have registered for Creative Critic but have not provided feedback to entries will automatically be disqualified. Who will WIN? VOTE NOW! The Classic Pirates are back with a brand new contest giving YOU a chance to win a 10320 Eldorado Fortress set kindly provided by the LEGO Group. Timeline Now - June 27 - Ask Your Questions June 28 - August 26 - Submit Your Entries August 27 - September 16 - Voting + Critic Closing Thoughts September 23 - Winners Announced Main Building Category 1. Design a new Classic-Style set Imagine you're a designer working for the LEGO Group and you've been tasked with designing a brand new classic-style LEGO Pirate set. The emphasis is building a creation that could pass as an official LEGO set. The design could be pure classic 1989-1997 style or modern like Barracuda Bay. But remember! Official LEGO sets have a more limited part count than MOCs and the onus is to convince everyone your creation is an official set. Existing Examples More Examples of MOCs like Classic LEGO Pirate Sets 2. Remake an existing Classic set Which classic LEGO Pirate set should the LEGO Group remake next? You show them how it's done! The objective is not create a full blown MOC based on an existing set, rather "update or modernise an existing LEGO Pirate set" in the same way 10320 Eldorado Fortress and Black Seas Barracuda from 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay have been officially updated by the LEGO Group. The creation can be any existing LEGO Pirate set except for 6276 Eldorado Fortress and the 6285/10040 Black Seas Barracuda because they've been remade (but feel free to appeal that in this topic). Due to popular demand 6276 Eldorado Fortress and the 6285/10040 Black Seas Barracuda are now accepted! Existing Examples More Examples of Pirate Set Remakes Don't have time to build a larger entry? 9. You are correct. I was intending to make a point, rather than ask a question.
  10. Thank you for those insights - may they provide additional perspective for those who may not understand why the LEGO Group made certain decisions regarding the development of this set. While I don't disagree with your statement, it doesn't adequately address whether the set would exist if it wasn't for the established fan base. Because, why would a manufacturer revitalise a 30+ year old product, when they could simply develop a brand new product to appeal to modern consumers? Exactly who decided Islanders are now considered unacceptable? Is the same people who make strong arguments against depictions of imperialism and colonialism?
  11. Well, do tell! What are the other reasons little girls felt "left out"?
  12. Do you theorise they were feeling "left out" solely because the set did not include any female minifigures?
  13. But is the core customer base for Eldorado Fortress different? This set is specifically targeted towards adults, and the consumers who are likely to purchase multiple units are people who were children 3 or 4 decades ago and longtime fans of the LEGO Pirates theme. Eldorado Fortress is very much a nostalgia driven product, so contemporary society isn't as relevant because the customer experience is rooted in reminiscing the past. And sure, there are newer and causal fans who will purchase this set, but would this set exist if it wasn't for the longtime fans?
  14. I was kidding! But you're correct, reinvisioning a classic set causes consumer expectations to become exceptionally high, while an entirely new design would be subject to less scrutiny.
  15. But seriously, fans can be very passionate and emotionally charged about something they love dearly.
  16. It's OK. They can sit this one out and wait for the next LEGO Pirate set to be relased.
  17. You should try it too, Jan!
  18. Yeah, frog's love rum! Ever heard of the pickled frog? I think you should try it.
  19. It has a cellar - can you make do with that?
  20. Try looking at this video: Here's some new elements I've noticed.... Modular cliff component with leaf pieces Tejas curvas (Barrel tile roofing) A skeleton firing cannons A water slide A crab A wine cellar The crane has a wider range of motion and functionality Accessories like a barrel, sack, broom
  21. This is no longer a rumour so please continue the discussion in the official 10320 Eldorado Fortress topic.
  22. They must have... it appears Eldorado Fortress now opens up!
  23. LEGO Pirate fans have been waiting early for the past few months to learn if there was any truth to the Eldorado Fortress remake rumour. Now it's official! Head over to the LEGO Pirates Forum for further details...
