Can I please ask all to exhibit patience. For us in leadership, who also does this as a hobby, we can only disappoint if one day is considered too long a waiting time. Thank you. Your roll was 2, which gives 30 % of license value plus 25 % for the ship being moc'ed which gives a total of 55 % of a license value 300, equals 165 dbs. I will make the transfer presently. And for the record, Mesabi could have sistershipped the ship the moment it was lost to him (captured in the MRCA).

[OL - Era II - Ch 1 - Cat. A] Oleon Consulate
Bregir replied to KotZ's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
We will get it updated at some point. It has been established by precedence. You are of course welcome to question leadership, but sometimes it may be easier for everyone to enjoy BoBS if players agree to generally listen to leadership when there are questions about the rules. -
Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Indeed a pretty little vessel, Ayrlego! Congrats! I never had any of the larger pirate sets as a kid, so I am not particularly nostalgic (although I wanted them all...), but I can definitely see her appeal. A very nice set, even if it does not have the 85 different play features of modern day sets with flick guns, trapdoors and the like. Back then, kids had some imagination! :) -

[OL - Era II - Ch 1 - Cat. A] Oleon Consulate
Bregir replied to KotZ's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
If a governmental building does not fit obviously into any of the other categories, it is an art and culture. This has been established earlier. Think of a city hall as a cultural institution, of a consulate as a means of cultural exchange, as examples. Also, such are the rules. -
[SR - FB1 Jan] The Trial of Sinbad part 5 (the conclusion)
Bregir replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Two friendly points to try to put down any confusion: MKJoshA's trial Several Corlander players have expressed concern with how this series of builds have (mis-)represented Corrington (from the first build too, I believe), and we have done our best to explain why. We have also explained that we cannot accept this as Corlander lore. That means that IC, if someone brings it up, the answer will most likely be that there are no records of such a trial, and that we have never heard of it. No further "action" is required. For us, it is a drunken tale or a piece of misplaced propaganda. Some may disagree with our position and call us thin-skinned or similar, but I harbour an optimistic hope that our general OOC reaction would at least give rise to some reflection for future interaction. If one kid on the playground says he doesn't want to play a particular game, you can complain about it and call him a little bitch, or you can accept it, and either stop playing with him, or try to include him on his premises. The diplomatic situation Corrington reacts to the events that transpire IC. We haven't declared war. The current situation is that we have a blockade of Bastion (where the pirates have been tracked to) and have offered a cease fire on what we thought was your terms. A very measured response, I would say, trying to address the concerns you have brought up IC that the Sea Rats are not to be considered a single, mutually responsible, entity. We have also IC and OOC accepted that for some reason, no Sea Rat or group of Sea Rats can or will make any commitments. This is something that we will build into our IC actions going forward. IC actions => IC reactions. Sinbad's trial was presented as a response, but even if we accepted it as anything but a drunken tale, it hardly warrants a response. Yes, we could accept it and shoot the judge and jury, but I fail to see how it would affect the diplomatic situation. If you decide to try Sinbad in Bastion, that will be considered too, as will the outcome. But we don't want to define your reaction. We react to what happens and expect a reaction back. As to raiding Rassillion, that is a) not currently possible within the rules, b) largely inconsequential for the raided party under the old rules, and c) not where we have found the ships that attacked us. They have been operating out of Bastion. But of course this (not very measured) response is also something we are considering, should the rules open up for it. I will also say that at each and every step we have tried offering you a reasonable way to deescalate, just like we have tried to deescalate ourselves, even if we haven't been successful, of if it hasn't seemed that way. The above is what I have tried to say all along, and I am getting frustrated that it does not seem to be understood or accepted. Maybe I have not been clear? I have done my best to be constructive and not offer any name calling, instead explaining our position. TL;DR: IC actions have IC consequences. We have accepted how the Sea Rats have responded and we will re-act accordingly. That is how RP should work. -
[SR - FB1 Jan] The Trial of Sinbad part 5 (the conclusion)
Bregir replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think what Mike is suggesting is that the court depicted in MKJoshA's builds could have been a Sea Rat court. Then there would have been no conflict in terms of RP ground rules. Corrington would not have been misrepresented, which is the point of irritation. We have offered you the chance to sign a cease fire per settlement. If that is also unreasonable, I don't know what we can do, but we are willing to discuss it. You did - and then you reacted to Mesabi's attack with what seemed mostly like a threat. I don't OOC mind this, but the last thing we heard from Charlatan bay wasn't peaceful. Does not seem like the neutrality still stands, but we might be mistaken. (And would be happy to be positively surprised. ) We are not asking you to do this. If you want to do it, go ahead, but don't do it on our part. Personally, I would rather you didn't. We will not declare war on you, unless you attack us. We have offered a cease fire - an honest offer, regardless of what you think. Only one settlement has replied. I had hoped for more, or course, but we will have to work with what we get. IC. In fact, we have offered to play the game on your premises, not treating you like a single entity, but as separate individuals, as well as we can within the game rules. We are not contesting this. And we are reacting to it IC. And you can ask Mesabi if it has been discussed OOC too - boss Bregir was not happy. Mesabi made a mistake - can happen to anyone. He also apologised OOC and IC to you, I believe. And I consider the issue OOC over. -
[SR - FB1 Jan] The Trial of Sinbad part 5 (the conclusion)
Bregir replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lets be clear here. There is a distinction between IC and OOC that seems to have been lost. OOC, I have no interest in convicting and much less hanging, anyone's characters. In fact, I had hoped that the Sea Rats, perhaps excluding Bastion, would have said yes to our suggested cease fire, so we could have peace. And I am fairly confident that most of Corrington shares this view. IC, Corrington (obviously) cannot accept anyone preying on our shipping. And yes, hence we want pirates to hang from the yardarms. But IC, you can also see that we have offered to put this behind us, offering a general cease fire. That actually seems to me like a fairly friendly step in de-escalating the conflict. Earlier, IC, we have required the captains of the pirate ships to answer for their deeds - to avoid our blockade. Nothing happened. Until Sinbad showed up in King's Harbour exclaiming loudly that he was the guilty part, we only had the names of the ships. No one named Sinbad as the pirate until then. But apart form the fact that we cannot really react to this trial, as we were never offered the opportunity to do so (the builds and stories have hardly been open ended, but have instead defined our reactions), IC we would now technically have to hunt down Sinbad and hang him. Which of course would never work, as that would be killing off someone else's character. Could we have made a storyline where Sinbad was captured or gave himself up, was tried, perhaps convicted, perhaps escaped. Probably - but that would have to be coordinated with us. Of course we are annoyed when some outsider defines how our court system works, or what our policies for fallen heroes are, etc. And together with the fact that we have never been allowed a reaction leads me to say that I, personally, can't accept Sinbad's trial in KH as part of Corlander lore. If you want to try any of Mesabi's characters for Piracy, perhaps it would be proper to make that request? We are trying Captain Tyrell as the responsible party. Yes, we have OOC decided for an IC scapegoat that isn't Mesabi's main character - that way we avoid ruining someone's story. (Also, IC, Count Mesabi is far away to the south and could hardly be blamed IC - in fact he has the perfect alibi, for once... ) I am certain that you and Mesabi could have agreed on some terms for a trial on your part, but it doesn't change the fact that we are trying captain Tyrell not for your sake, but to uphold the laws of Corrington, something that you have been asked to participate in as a witness. You are free to decline, OOC or IC, and we will have to try to find other witnesses. But that trial is part of Corlander character. Even if you don't enjoy it. (And for me as a leader - I do not want people declaring war left and right... They can go be Sea Rats if that is what they want... ) If I recall correctly, you suggested we either bribed him or gave him a letter of marque. The former is not our way of doing things. Attacking us is not a way to extract money - we do not wish to give in to threats. The latter is irrelevant, as we have no current wars. Hence, who should we give a letter of marque against? Independent pirates? They are already free prey. If Corrington starts issuing letters of Marque against PC or NPC nations, we might as well declare war. We are sorry to hear that you do not like our way of RP'ing our nation. It would be more fun if you enjoyed it. But frankly, we play it like this because that is what we find interesting, and because that is the nation our players signed up for. Have a look at the Corrington intro topic and see what it says. Order and principle, or, as you say, "Law & Order: Corrington". If the Sea Rats have no interest in conducting diplomacy with Corrington, that is fine. We can react to that OOC and IC. And we will, of course. That is the nature of the game. Not sure these threats are helping anyone, really... Pride comes before the fall... -
[SR - FB1 Jan] The Trial of Sinbad part 5 (the conclusion)
Bregir replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
There was no teleporting in Mesabi's case. The Icarus Returning ended the MRCA in Mooreton Bay. Based on Silas Pike's official complaint, the ship, with crew and captain, was detained, and the Captain, who led the squadron which attacked the sea Rats illegitimately, is currently being trialed as having trespassed against Corlander laws against piracy. Silas Pike is a material witness in this case, but other than that, it is an internal Corlander matter. And when we have tried communicating with the Sea Rats, but we can only work with the response we get. If there are diplomatic issues we have not addressed, contact us IC. What happens to the captured ship and its crew is a matter between Mesabi and Kwatchi, but with the properties for the ship, I assumed that was in order. -
I disagree. The cardinal rule of good RP is interaction. Interaction requires allowing the other party the opportunity to react. MKJoshA did not. Yes, as you say, we can react after the fact, watching official Corrington being dretched through the mud first, and, in our minds, heavily misrepresented. But the logical IC reaction when a pirate shows up, confessing that he is the man behind the attacks on Corlander shipping, would be to put him in prison, and then prosecute him next we had time for a court case. Any Corlander soldier or officer of the court would of course know this, and react accordingly, not take up the court case out of nowhere. But sending in a platoon of troops would have been outright sabotage of MKJoshA's (obviously planned) storyline. Hence, the only reasonable response that I see is to ignore it as official lore, and express that this is not how we like to play. I can't and won't stop him from telling his story, but I just can't accept it those premises. If someone wants to tell stories in the setting of BoBS, fine, but if anyone wants rp with me or Corrington and be accepted as part of our storyline and lore, it has to be on reasonable terms. And I think it reasonable that we ask that.

I've gotta echo what others have said. Lovely raft and great use of posing to make it look dynamic. You seem all set on the AMRCA! :)
-
Nice build, Mesabi (although you have some unattached plates in the second picture! ) - the facade has a nice look to it and the brick-bricks give it a nice texture. The printing press sign is great, as is the interior of the printing house. Will it be licensed? As always, your story is amusing, and you posing is good, although it still seems a bit angular to me. I would suggest you try to use more of angle poses. BoBS isn't a 1995 top down adventure game, after all! I have to raise a flag, though, in regards to RP etiquette. I don't know where the story is going, but RP-wise, you are threading a fine line here. Similar to the discussion about the trial of Sinbad, you seem to be taking on the role of someone else's character/population/settlement, defining their reactions. Consider where this leaves the Eslandians? They can ignore this; accept that some of their citizens are rioting against their political system (and possibly show a counter-reaction); suggest that it is the work of foreign agents; or similar, but in any case, you are forcing a reaction, not by your own actions, but by high-jacking someone else's people. Of course, you may have coordinated this with the right people, or continue the story and showing that this is the work of foreign agents (although that should really be someone you control too, not to commit the same faux pas again - is the WTC getting itself into further trouble?), or something similar, and then it is all probably ok. I don't know if anyone in ESL or anyone else takes an issue with this, but in principle, this appears to be on the verge of stepping outside general good RP behaviour. I certainly would raise a brow if some Oleander started showing revolts against the Colonial Governor in King's Harbour, for instance.

Nice build and interesting story, sir. Innovative use of that split hull. I would suggest you report (or just quote yourself) in the Era II topic, since that is really where it belongs :) Welcome - shall be looking forward to following your stories going forward!

[OL - Era II - Ch 1 - Cat. A] Oleon Consulate
Bregir replied to KotZ's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Beautiful Colonial consulate, sir. Both interior and exterior looks great, although I agree the large panes of class seem a bit off. Interesting story and characters too, although I don't see why Oleanders should be afraid to venture out in Corlander settlements! (Apart from large carnivorous beasts, of course... ;) ) Also, for licensing, a consulate is a governmental building, so it would be an art and culture. :) -
Great minifig posing, amazing use of limited bricks, and very nice overall composition. The story is really interesting too, and I will be looking forward to seeing where it goes! A note: To participate in the AMRCA, you have to commit some form of resource (troops or a vessel licensed in the EGS). I personally created and licensed a class 0 liferaft for a similar adventure. Of course, one is limited with such small resources, but stranded on a deserted island, you are unlikely to have more resources anyway!

Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion, ERA II
Bregir replied to dr_spock's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Dear sirs, Please be reminded of our previous communications of the 7th of December 617 offering a cease fire to the Sea Rats as a whole, or to individual settlements. Corrington has every hope of peace in our time, but it does take mutual commitment. Sincerely Rear Admiral Fletcher -

For discovery, Maxim is spot on. However, you may expect a significant outlay in influence points needed to claim ownership of a discovered island. (we expect to introduce a "price list".) Most likely, your faction will aid you here. -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lots of interesting MOCs here that I will comment on when I find the time. For now, let me just clear up a misunderstanding. Ships should ALWAYS be licensed according to the archetypes presented in the ship topic, NOT according to other existing ships. Why? To avoid class creep. If we always use the same benchmark, we will not risk everything sliding. If you feel that some existing vessels are unfairly licensed, you can take it up with the prize court. So Kwatchi. If your ship is comparable in size with the Margot, the archetypes for Class 7, she should be a class 7, not a class 8. -
"Honourable judge, distinguished jury." The young Alex Wright rose and bowed first to the judge and then to the courtroom. "What is a state without laws? Without order? If not our citizens, our soldiers, our sailors, foreign captains and merchants, or our international relations and contacts can rely on the policies and positions of our representatives and authorities, Corrington, and her Majesty herself, will lose legitimacy and credibility. This, we cannot allow." "I thus remind you, good jurors, that we are not here today to discuss or debate whether aggression against a Sea Rat squadron was justified. It was clearly against the policy and laws of her Majesty. Of that, there can be no question." "Instead, we are here to ascertain whether the attack was an act of piracy, a capital crime, and who is responsible for this attack. The man before us stand accused of a piratical attack on a peaceful convoy of traders. I shall be presenting evidence to support that this attack was piracy. An illegitimate aggression against a neutral part, a peaceful group of merchants." Pausing for a moment, he looked around letting it all sink in. "You may ask if this encounter ever took place - if not a foreigner with designs against her Majesty or the WTC could have made it up - and you scepticism is not to blame. However, this is beyond dispute. Logs from Sea Rat and Corlander vessels corroborate the incidence, as does eye-witnesses and leading shipping publications. And even if you should be unwilling to trust such sources, as having been possibly contaminated or tampered with, the very fact that the WTC Beacon has been brought into Freeport as a prize should make it abundantly clear that an encounter took place." "Now, good sirs, let us bring the guilty part to justice. Transgression against her Majesty's Corrington cannot stand unanswered." @Mesabi/ @Ayrlego Not sure what is next, now? Witnesses? Statement from the defence?

Young Lt. Lavendwood seems to be quite an overachiever! Orders are a arrived out swiftly and effectively - very good! As others have said, there are some nice figs, good references to other people's troops, and a good build overall. Personally, I like how you work in elements of the story, and I am loving that the carrier pigeons made it into the build! Very nice!

Good build. And had it been a Sea Rat courtroom, I would be interested to follow the proceedings. Right now, I find it hard to see how I can possibly accept this as "lore" of BoBS. And here I represent the opinion of Corrington - we are frustrated. My two (+...) cents on this issue. Fletcher's communications to the Sea Rats are not those of a single person, but that of official Corrington. We are not like the Sea Rats, but actually have a common governmental policy. We are still waiting for some IC Sea Rat response, btw. It will determine how we act next MRCA. The first rule of roleplay etiquette is to never dictate the reaction of others (unless specifically agreed beforehand). You play your own actions and let others react, and should of course be willing to accept any reasonable reaction and consequence of your actions. In this case, you are playing the reactions of the court, and so far (including part 2) I do not see how Corrington can come out of this with our "honour" intact. It seems to me like you are making a mock of our judicial system. We may of course all be wrong, and you will surprise us with some story twist that makes us all happy, but since we have heard nothing of this, we can only react to what we see. If Sinbad IC really surrendered himself to Corlander authorities and testified that he was responsible for the piratical actions of 4 out of the 5 ships identified as pirates, I see no other outcome than conviction and death penalty. Unless he produces legitimate Letters of Marque against Corrington, which would likely mean war between Corrington and the Issuer, and probably the Sea Rats too. And in that case, he would be a prisoner of war. I cannot see what options I am missing here.
