"Are you quite sure this is a good idea, sir?" the mate asked the bowler-wearing gentleman. "We haven't exactly seen much success up until now... Which, by the way... How do you secure the funding?! "Never you mind the funding, my friend" he found himself being cut off. "One little cutter did not do the trick. A larger lugger did neither. But together! I have had them drawn up by the same line as the Rover and the Defiant, you see..." The Gentleman Privateer never gives up, despite a few... minor... setbacks. So hereby sistershipping the Rover and the Defiant as the Maverick (cutter) and Audacious (lugger).

Diplomatic work can be both taxing and time consuming, with long periods of waiting for reactions. To pass time and cater to his scientific leanings, Montoya has coaxed Cooke into another mission of submarine exploration. As so often before, this has left Cooke working hard at the pump for the diving suit. Underwater, Baker is in his element at the forefront of practical science, rustling through wrecks, sea weeds, sea shells, and other fascinating submarine treasures. ______________________________________________ Overall view of the build: It was originally built for one of the challenges, but never was finished. I didn't want to have it go to waste, and I quite liked how it turned out, so why not send Montoya and Baker on a little scientific exploration? :) C&C welcome.

Happy 620 AE, ladies and gentlemen - I think we have some nice things in stock for you all from court. Everything takes time, and sometimes too much, but challenge- and story-wise, I think 620 will be interesting! -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)

I'd go for some part square rigger - you could potentially go for a barque or barquantine (with schooner rig on the mizzen and potentially the main too, but square rig on the other(s)). Class 5 looks right to me. For improvements? Hmm, I really like what you have so far, but it looks a bit strange to me that it doesn't have any gun ports down the middle, so I think I would add two more. -
Great looking ship, Kotz! Both bow and stern has come out nice, and the overall curve has come out nice too. Could you show us a breakdown of the capstan? It looks really cool. As per size, I'd say she is very close to a class 6. How many midsections does she consist off? I have three suggestions. 1) A little life aboard would be cool (I understand that minifig posing can be a pain, though.) 2) Presentation-wise, white on white makes it a little hard to make out some of the contours and details. 3) Since your hull is so nice, you could consider putting a bit more into the rigging. I quite like the way you did the furled sails. Your masts are in one piece of diminishing, but should really be in three parts on a full rigged ship where each part overlaps the next. (Example below) Overall, very nice frigate, and I hope not to cross her on the brick seas!

The Gentleman Privateer can celebrate another turn of adventures... Although he would most likely rather have celebrated a prize and a surviving ship... And the Ironsides celebrates yet another victory over pirates daring to enter the Cocovian Seas!

Great looking skeletal remains! And while religion is left to individuals in Corrington, putting a little fear of the gods into the inhabitants of Mesabi Landing surely will not hurt ;) -
At a guesthouse in Westface, Cooke and Montoya were sifting through dispatches "I have here a report from young mr. Barlow. So far, he has been unable to secure an audience with Oldis." Cooke reported with a furrowed brow. "I am beginning to wonder if it was really coincidental that Oldis was not in attendance when we first came to Kings Port" Montoya sighed. "Have you seen any correspondence from mr.... lieutenant... ehrm... Sir Drake?" Carefully, Cooke looked around and lowered his voice. "Only this report saying there was some interest in the bounty, but still nothing substantial. He will keep us appraised, I am sure." "One can only hope we have news soon. We know so very little of what goes on on this island. Both Oleon and Eslandola has been meddling here for too long, and I can only wonder what manipulations they have been up to..." Montoya mused. "Truth be told, old friend, I should rather be shot of it, Isaac. While we languish here in the comfort of diplomacy, my fellow officers are bringing the fight to the enemy, earning fame and glory for her Majesty!" Cooke slammed his fist into his hand with great vigour. "Just look at this here KPA. The Old Ironsides has won another victory! And some barbarians have dared attack our settlement in the far East..." "Fear not Captain, I have a feeling we shall see our share of glory in time..."

Personal Diary, I. Montoya, Westface, Terraversa, November 11th, 619 AE Today, we had our initial meeting with L'Olius at the city hall of Westface, and presented him with our official recognition of Terraversan Independence, and our willingness to establish lasting diplomatic relations. I did float the idea of a trade pact too. While he showed honest appreciation for our diplomatic efforts, he seemed much more taken by the Concord schooner we gifted to him personally. He leaves the impression of being more of a sea officer than a politician, with a dash of privateer about him, but there is no doubt he cares deeply for his newfound country. The way he spoke of Oldis in Kings Port left little question as to his opinion on the Archduke, but they seem to be tolerating each other. From Cooke I learn that L'Olius is clearly a capable sea officer, and he did earn his spurs against the Mardierian fleet with some credible actions. The two of them seemed to come along famously, both being creatures of the sea. Although committing to nothing, he did seem interested in our offer of military officers to assist in building up the standing army and navy for his young nation. I expect he will get back to us on the matter. The recent uprising near Westface may add to the appeal of our offer. These are interesting times, although Cooke seems impatient being penned up here, while other officers take the fight to the enemy. No assurances of the importance of our mission seems to mollify him. M.

Thanks all - I am very happy with her too, but I wasn't anticipating her being so popular! Actually didn't take that long to build! As to the shot-effect, that came out better than I thought, and I will definitely revisit that! The rake of the masts is so characteristic of luggers I had to include it - and as with all my masts (more or less), they are typically not very stable in themselves, but held up by the standing rigging. So it is all about changing the length of some rigging. Will you remind us what "dipping lugs" are? Changing the yard over to the other side of the mast when tacking? (Not actually sure it can do that.as is, though) Long and sleek seemed right for a privateer. And truth be told, I was working from a profile image, which doesn't show the width at all, so I took some artistic liberty. Oh, I agree, Many details become possible when you work at this scale, and it is easier to achieve a proper sense of size and shape. For my frigate and SOTL, I will definitely need to figure out a different photo setup. It's paper, and the reef points are just drawn on. On Blazer, I made a "fully" functioning rigging, which was a fun experiment, but it also leads to a lot of loose ends (quite literally) that one needs to handle. And I find it somewhat detracts from the MOC. A little more running rigging than here might be attempted, though, if nothing else to give the sails some shape and proper curvature. This is a good idea - haven't experimented with that, but I think I'll try it at some point. As you say, though, it will take quite a few bricks! Yes, she is! With bow- and sternsprit (?) she is about 85 cm's long. (In American measurement, I think that's about 3 pounds, 50 fahrenheit ) Good question! Cutter, lugger, brig, snow, schooner, square-riggers, dhow, galley, various gunboats, etc.... well... It all adds up! Can't rightly say I have the full overview! And I've got a SOTL, ship-sloop, frigate, polacre-xebec, xebec, and tartane in the works. Just cooked up a little demonstration. You can make many variations over the theme, but something like this works well to model small scale tops (where the lower and upper masts overlap/connect). Hope its useful. Much appreciated! Mayhaps the Gentleman and Nordau should coordinate efforts at some point? (Rather that than being blasted out of the sea... ) Really? Well, thank you - I will endeavour to change that with some of my next ships! (But I do quite like her too, though ) Oh, I'd love to see your attempt! Hopefully indeed!

Hi all - the Grand Duke Alexander has finally made a decision on the prizes for the PA cup! Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you for the participation from all - some very good builds all around! Honorary mention to @TomSkippy who won all three ship categories for best build! -
Results: The Pilot's Association Racing Cup If you thought the Corlander bureaucracy were a lumbering, stalling behemoth, the administration of Grand Duke Alexander Prio would have you tear your hair out in desparation. However, the paperwork for the PA Racing Cup was finally done, to be published through out the Brick Seas. While the association itself had not attracted too much interest, the races had been wildly successful, with some very intense duels and, from time to time, some dirty tricks. The races had been followed closely, with many at the edge of their seats at the spectator rows, or while reading the commentaries. Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
A new ship sails the brick seas, although under a somewhat darker flag than the Corlander flag... The Defiant lugger. -
The Defiant Lugger Recently, any dreams of greatness, fame, wealth, infamy, or whatever drives a privateer, was shattered for the Gentleman Privateer, as the Rover had been sunk. The crew had managed to escape the sinking cutter, and made it back to their hideout. However, neither the Gentleman himself, nor his crew, are given to defeatism, and have been keen to get back to sea. So, as soon as their new vessel was ready, they were out an about, testing and exercising. The new vessel, the Defiant, is a large three-masted lugger, which shares many of the characteristics of the cutter. Fast, weatherly, and maneuverable, it is perfect for privateering. The Defiant carries 6 pounders, four a broadside, plus two chase guns fore and aft, as well as a large crew. Hopefully, she will prove more effective than the Rover, and bring success to the Gentleman Privateer. ________________________________________________________________________________________ A large lugger, which was really fun to build. I will license her as a class 4 (see in spoiler a comparison shot with the class 5 Ironsides). She really is quite large with the tall rig, but her hull is fairly light. I really like how she turned out, hull and rigging both. I am going to run into a problem with my photo setup when I need to photograph larger vessels, as she really takes up almost all of my photobackground. C&C is as always welcome.

"The secret of the lake" Episode 3 ~ Blessing in disguise
Bregir replied to Fraunces's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Fraunces Brody was spluttering and coughing up water as he looked around the cave. It seemed a rapid underground stream had pulled him quite some distance, and he had almost drowned if it hadn't been for the fact that the current had ended in a lake in a large underground cavern. He was bruised and exhausted, but after a few moments of recovery he was ensured that nothing was broken. As his eyes adjusted to the dark, he realised the cave was lightly lit by some glowing algae growing in clusters on the walls, giving plenty of light to make out details. He could see the calm lake had a small stream flowing out of it to the right, and on the left, a pathway through the cliff. In the cave it self, there was the old remnants of a camp, and a small boat. But if the boat was here, was the path or the stream the best way to go? And would his fellows dare join him? Up top, the crew were in a pickle. La Faou and his men had heard the commotion and were rushing back towards them. Would they fight, run, or perhaps take the chance and follow Brody? -
"The secret of the lake" Episode 2 ~ Fonticulus
Bregir replied to Fraunces's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
These builds certainly do not have the comments they deserve. Some very nice posing here, an intriguing (continuing) story, some excellent rockwork and great vegetation! The snotted rocks work well to show the layers of rocks long deposited by an ancient sea, and your vegetation really looks lush and wild. I particularly like the vines hanging down the side and the palm mounted by snot! well done! -
Beautiful build, tj! I'd like to a see a closeup of you kegs and taps (and the bruhaha girls?... ) but I really like the dynamic look of the build. The almost landed barrel really adds to the build as described es the posing, particularly the post throwing pose on the right. Well done!
-
A very practical (and profitable) approach by the order! And an often overlooked aspect of life in the brick seas too The build is very well executed too, and I really like the way you present your builds with the stories you attach. Always a pleasure to read!
-
Good looking build and funny story. Most of all, it had me rereading the nova crablandia and Malto peace talks, which (minus the unfortunate OOC drama) was a very interesting situation! (And great fun to play out with the many people involved)
-
I see no reason to discount the work already done. That is not to say you can't continue in your own direction, but you certainly have to take into consideration the latest gm input. (Even if you don't take one of the proffered options)

I just updated the rules. It is not strictly necessary, but surely, if you are sistershipping a vessel, there must be an original moc? What was the name of the original ship? Maybe I can dig it up in the forms?- 15 replies
