  1. The defence of a Corlander naval base on a largely uncharted island cannot be left to green troops. Thus, a troop of Her Majesty's Winged Cuirassiers has been assigned to King's Harbour. Outside the settlement, a barracks and stable has been erected, fortified against minor threats. Here, we see three cuirassiers riding out of the main gate, likely going on another patrol to map and survey the surrounding areas. The Winged Cuirassiers derive their name from the winged banners they carry atop their long battle-lances, and the breastplates (cuirasses) they carry on their chest against small arms fire and lances. Each section of four Cuirassiers is lead by a bannerman, who, instead of the wing, carries the banner of her Majesty, Queen Anetta. They are elite, shock-troops, and have often been known to turn the tide of battle with their largely unstoppable charge. Armed with a battle-lance, a long-sword, and a cavalry carbine, they are versatile and highly trained troops. Recruited from the universities, and offered good pay and overall conditions, they often transition into important positions in the colonies as their tour of duty ends. ___________________________________________________________ Sometimes, you just need to figbarf and build some troops. C&C welcome. The build will be licensed as a small residence.
  2. Great looking ghost-ship, Kaiju. For a moment, I thought it was a micro, but that is quite clearly not the case upon closer inspection. A few close-ups might be a good idea, to better show off the details. It looks very ghostly with the colors, glowing pieces and tattered sails. Great work. Will she be licensed?
  3. Filthy deserters! They must hang by the neck until disassembled! Great entry, Brickwolf - I like both the figs and their backstories, and I think the use of a lego background is a great touch. Well done.
  4. There is something entirely wrong with the ETTC accounts. In my reckoning, we should have cash reserves of 1.999 db, but in this sheet it only amounts to 238. I am thinking this is due to misplacement of the latest MRCA outcomes for the vessels: Belson (Formerly Heart of Eslandia) HMS Sparta Golden Filly all owned by the company. Further, the sheet only assigns a monthly property income of 10 db, while it should be 20 db, for a warehouse in King's Harbour and one in Mooreton Bay. (Both medium commerce) Let me know if this leads to any questions. Thank you in advance.
  5. Great addition to the palace and lovely colours in both building and landscape. I like how you have maintained the style of the palace in this smaller build. Looking forward to more from Montario!
  6. Another great story (although of a more mystical nature) and excellent night shots. While I would probably go for a shade brighter, the moon works perfectly, giving some great silhouettes, especially in those first two shots!! Keep them stories coming!
  7. Simple little build with a good backstory! I really like the gables!
  8. I really like the style you are creating for Montario, and this warehouse is a great example how it can be used for more utilitarian buildings. The highlights of this build is the stacked goods on the inside, and details like the small windows raised to ensure light reaches over the wares. The doors are great too. But I have to ask... Is it only the young and pretty ladies who get the honour of trading directly with Fontonajo? ;)
  9. Pirate Noir indeed! :O Cool little ship interior and very dramatic story! And from the next build, I see that he got the information he was looking for...
  10. Montoya has lead a small group of medical and surgical gentlemen of the Royal Society on a mercy mission to the battlefields of Isla de Victoria.
  11. Montoya's last location: Nova Terreli, Nellisa During his visit to Terreli, a disconcerting letter arrived from Lady Elysabeth on Isla de Victoria. My dear Lord Montoya, Ever since that duel, I have regarded you as a friend of my house. Though the relations between our two nations have coolled down, which has made our contacts less fequent, I still regard you as an ally of mine. Undoubtly, you have heard of the recent military actions taken by my nation. I myself am fighting in the frontlines, and I can say you: the fighting is heavy. We still encounter more Mardierans every day, and recently our scouts have heard rumours of not one, but three Mardieran settlements. These are heavily protected, and the casualties at both sides are high. Tough I know that your nation view us as the agressors, and have taken steps in the blue direction, this is about human lives. Since I know from first hand experience the wonders your medical knowledge can achieve, I hereby ask you, no beg you, to come help me. Yours sincerely, Elysabeth Therefore, Montoya has lead a group of medical and surgical gentlemen of the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy on a mercy mission to bring Corlander medical knowledge to the battlefield. Principally against getting involved in politics, the mercy mission is treating all casualties, regardless of nationality, without prejudice. Only the nature of your injury will decide your treatment. Montoya is leading the mission, and has been joined by several surgeons and physicians, as well as his research assistant, young Mr. Baker. While mainly a mission of compassion and mercy, the chance to further the medical sciences through hands-on experimentation and the ability to test the newest treatments might also have helped motivation. After all, why not take this chance to improve the world for generations to come? C&C is, as always, welcome! :)
  12. I really like the Dutch style you are creating for your builds, while still maintaining the local touch in colours. I think this will be very typical of the colonies, where people from all different origins meet and build in their own style with the available material. The use of the tan brick-bricks with grey and green accents work really well, and the life in the street, with horse cart, soldier, and the crane, as well as the nice interior, really finished the build off perfectly. Should the MCTC be interested in investing in King's Harbour, feel free to contact the Military Governor (me) for an agreement.
  13. Great looking river raft, BD! I like both idea and execution. My only comment is the lack of propulsion (those two oars must be for steering?), but I suppose it is travelling down-river? Up-river, perhaps it is pulled by mules? Well done!
  14. Sounds interesting, Kwatchi - I will see if I can get an entry in. :) It is quite a different type of challenge to what we are used to here! ;)
  15. Should the honourable Lady Valentia bring the sealed bottle to a Corlander Outpost, I am certain she will be rewarded accordingly. And perhaps we will find out something about its contents! :O Nice build, with some interesting parts usage, especially for vegetation. The story is, as always, fascinating and I like the story about those islands and their geological origins. I tend to agree with Elostirion that working on photography would do a lot to improve the presentation, but on the upside, it isn't obvious when you are looking at it from a phone in a moving car. ;)
  16. Oh, btw: WUHUUUUU - I won something!! Erhm... I mean... Well done to all the participants, great work from the organisers and congratulations to all the winners. It would be great to have seen some more entries, but those we've seen are good. @Ayrlego: That was fast! Well done!
  17. Yeah, I'm going to join the party late too! This is an awesome build, Puvel. The way these colors fade in and out and turn from deep water to high cliffs is just brilliant! It looks so beautiful, if you were selling tickets, I would go there for a vacation! (and never come back...) The micro/nanoships are brilliant too!
  18. I believe you are free to use that license whenever you want to. And notice it does not factor in to your ship limit, meaning it doesn't matter when you use it. Further, a microbuild is sufficient to activate it. :) As to the factions, (Someone correct me if I am wrong) I understand it to be so that the average score of the five highest scoring builds are multiplied by the total number of builds from that faction. Which resulted in the slightly surprising results. :)
  19. We are already discussing how to handle this now, but yes, you are entirely right!
  20. Oh, dear @Kolonialbeamter! You might be trying to hide it from prying eyes, but Corrington has spies everywhere! Looks fabulous! Can't wait to see more!
  21. Thanks guys - I am so happy you like what I did with the first photo - that is the centrepiece of this entry, so I am happy it worked out! Thanks, BD - this was exactly what I was hoping to achieve!! I am so happy it worked out! Well, about rigging - I must admit that this is not as finished as on the blazer as I simply hadn't planned for all the appropriate running rigging! (Plus, it would make minifig placement rather complex...) However, it does have the necessary rigging to actually function pretty much, so at some point I will probably show her under full sail! It has proven to have a few structural issues too (see the mainmast chains in the last picture...), but overall, it was a very effective learning experience, and I am quite happy with the result.a Hehe - glad you spotted my little broadside trick - as the lids are functioning, this was an easy way to do it. Further, I don't actually have the bricks to build all 16 broadside carronades! Also very happy you liked the story - we (Ayrlego and I) were trying to create a coherent and exciting story people would enjoy to follow over a few weeks. Hope we succeeded! Well, I could blame Ayrlego and continuity issues of the story, but even that aside, I hadn't actually finished rigging (mainly the sails took a lot of time) her, and tuning the wave and getting the right photographs were only done immediately prior to posting - so that's why! About the thickness of the Mizzen - well, first of all, I am limited in my bricks, secondly, I think the next level of thickness (1x1 rounds) would be too slim for a lower mast. We are a bit limited in the availability of round bricks with different diameter. Perhaps Cooke will retrofit a topmast at some point, but he only just took over command at this point in time, and I wanted to maintain the classic galleon rig to go along with the story. I did experiment a bit with different headrails, but for the basic construction I had, this was my favourite. And I suppose those carronades will have to be turned aside when the capstan is in use. Space is a luxury commodity in the Royal Navy! Thanks, Kai - I am quite happy with it myself! Thanks, Ayrlego - and as I wrote above, the delay wasn't entirely your fault, although it is a convenient excuse... And a small piece of advice for everyone - angling one's vessels just a bit to one side or the other makes it look dramatically more dynamic! Thanks, Puvel - glad I was able to convey the drama of the situation, and we are very happy you enjoyed following our story! Haha, thanks, Captain! Thanks, Garm - it seems my efforts were succesful! As to the last part of the story, we have considered at some point telling it in retrospect, but no promises. But as should come as no surprise, the Royal Navy prevailed, and Cooke captured both vessels with the help of Allcock and his men, who liberated and armed prisoners on the privateer to aid in the boarding actions! And yes, she is a chubby old tub - modelled after a galleon, after all! But as I am sure you will agree, real ships have curves! *blushes*
  22. Thanks all for the comments - glad you liked our little story! Thank you - I too really enjoy the storylines of BoBS and I am definitely hoping to see more. I think it helps bring BoBS together as a community, and brings builders closer together. Generally, I am always up for collaborative stories (see for instance my supporting role in Elostirion's great palace.) if I can find the time and it fits the storylines of my characters. Great idea - your build with the lighthouse and cavern showcased great use of the lightbricks, and I will definitely keep that in mind for further night-scenes! I agree - and returning to the build now, I see how I could have put a lot more effort and bricks into this part... I tend to see it as "just" a base for the scene to sit on. Hmm, when the skill-tree-system is put up, I should probably work on my landscaping! Well, all credits for the ship goes to Ayrlego, as I was simply building a cut out of his Black Oak with a few personal touches! It was really fun to build it after an existing model, and allowed me to put some work into the interior, something which I find often to be complex when tumblehome and rigging is applied... Hah - I see how that could be confusing, but for some reason, it never crossed my mind when I built it. And there is actually a cannon behind Cooke, and the cobblestone should suggest it being outside, but I see your point! Thanks, KB - the idea of the two scenes was the basic assumption for this moc, and I like to think that I inspired Ayrlego to include several scenes in his 4A entry too! Well, as you have probably seen, it is modelled after Ayrlego's Black Oak, so no, I probably wont - He already did! Oh, the battle of the critters! Welcome to the critterdrome! I agree - one day I will have to get myself a proper photo-setup! And proudly so!
  23. That crowd of on-lookers seem to be getting far too deep into the competition, and I fear it will lead to hooliganism! ;) Great idea and lovely execution!
  24. Thanks Kai, glad you like it - the path was originally intended to lead further up, but I basically ran out of greys. (And forgot my initial plan as I worked through it...) The pier: Well, it was supposed to be built by placing the bricks as a foundation and then filling it with dirt, thus the brown... Thanks, Kwatchi - and I try to take inspiration from where I can. And will take it as a compliment when someone catches it! And in Corrington, we only use double epaulettes. What I have done so far is using the white ones for lieutenants, and yellow ones for post captains. And as I am one of the only ones to actively portray a corlander naval officers (as far as I remember... ) I am claiming the right of definition! Glad you like the waves - I think baseplates are hard to make look nice. This is the (new...) dress uniform for naval officers in Corrington (I just recently decided... ) And the name - well, I was taking inspiration from the name of the island chain "The Rider Islands" And to be honest, I think those seagulls are lifted from some creator sets - but I don't have any of the lego seagulls, so these will have to do! Thanks - see my comment to Kai about the brown. As to the building, I prefer them colourful. Glad you like the MOC The tent was to emphasize that this is a new and simple settlement, while the house is meant to be the storehouse for powder and shot, as well as a place to rest between duties.
