  1. Nice to finally see the long expected MOC I really enjoy all your imaginative plant designs! What piece is the dark tan one on the lower side of VHS7...?
  2. Wow! This build really captures how I also think a Kaliplin urban area looks! I also love your description of the building technique and the physics behind it. Congratulations to a stunning series of builds in this community effort, thanks for participating!
  3. Very nice build! The bubbles are excellent! I have also probably never actually seen one of the famous oil fields. However, I wonder what the oil can be used for more than in oil lamps? I suppose by the way that our abundant oil is one of the reasons for the wealth of knowledge in Kaliphlin, since our scholars have light so they can stay up reading and writing after dark
  4. Excellent landscaping and wooden structures, looking forward to seeing more of it!
  5. Interesting choice of colors, looks very good! However, black Lego is notoriously hard to photograph so some of the shape of the towers gets lost on my tablet screen... Anyway, both the ground and the architecture are excellent!
  6. I'm grateful to Mitgardia for awakening some competitive spirit, at least for me it made me do two MOCs I'd never done without that, and I'm happy I made those
  7. Awesome terrain here! And the trees are nice as well, but the purist in me is slightly disturbed by the nuances...?
  8. Alas, there are way too many tombs of dear friends around Queenscross! OoC: I like your use of that broken (?) bamboo leaf! The base adds to the sorrowful atmosphere, but I think this vignette would have worked fine on its own without a base as well.
  9. Nice shoreline and horse! I also like the sky and water with the sunlight. But how did you build the semi-circular sun? Seems like the sun sets in the east in Historica btw! Edit: East or west is hard sometimes...
  10. Wonderful Norse castle, I love those dragon head ornaments! It looks a bit dangerous to have that furnace right next to the big wooden structure however
  11. Excellent idea with a dig! I had a feeling already back when I built my Arkbri riverside for ch VI that the Arkbri Valley were hiding exciting archaeological sites I would love to visit the museum in Petraea and see all those artifacts! Nice minifig posing also.
  12. Excellent tree design! I would probably agree with Masa that it needs to be somewhat more triangular however, but the technique is awesome!
  13. Congratulations Masa! Keep up the good work! Maybe the big build will be finished in time to be entered in the architecture challenge?
  14. Interesting to see a part of the Kaliphlin savanna/semi-desert, great work on that ground! However, it's the minifig posing in this build which really excels in this build
  15. Great work! My favorite part is the sand green woodwork, excellent use of the half-stud offset! Looking forward to seeing more of this castle!
  16. Gorgeous wagon with excellent smoke from the chimney!
  17. I had some thoughts about that hat as well, but as it is on one of my side characters and this place suited him perfectly I couldn't resist putting him in the crowd. Had I known this would have ended up being blogged and therefore spread to a non-GoH crowd I wouldn't have put it there. For the lighting on this I used a mixture of natural light shining in through quite big windows (behind the camera) and flash bounced off the ceiling, but I had to try several different angles of the flash (giving different positions of the bright spot in the ceiling) before I got satisfied with how the balance between illumination of top/sides on the bricks was ok. I still think I got a tad too much light on the top of the bricks, but I figure that it could be the bright Kaliphlin sun high in the sky shining through light clouds I am using a simple white sheet, but I have removed everything and replaced it with a simple graded background in GIMP.
  18. Thanks all! Not least you in Kaliphlin who persuaded me to join this free-build project! And without hanging around here in GoH in general the last few months I would never have developed my building skills to be anywhere near TBB-worthy I must admit I was a bit inspired by GoT for this build, but the arena technique itself is something I have had brewing in my mind for quite a while without being able to figure out how to build without too much gaps somewhere. The "Alexandrian solution" was as you see to cut away half the arena and leave it to the viewers imagination. Is this a purely good thing do you think or should I be less hasty in removing all the natural variations in lighting of the backdrop around the build another time? I see that many of the best photographed builds out there use the actual backdrop in its presentation and not a careful cut-out after shooting with the approximately right color in the background as I did here (to eliminate wrinkles in the sheet behind). I'm thinking of getting a better backdrop which is less wrinkle-prone than this, maybe with a slightly fuzzy surface. What do you guys think of that?
  19. I must say that your building skills and productivity really impresses me! Well done!
  20. I apologize that I was to tired and shared the wrong picture of the fighting pit on flickr (which ended up being blogged) without the IK logo, but it was on the Dune Sea picture at least.
  21. Thanks! It's Friday already here in Sweden, can't help that you are a bit behind on the other side of the pond ;)
  22. Day 13 is up, since it's friday at least on this side of "the pond". Welcome to behold the bloody spectacles of the Fighting Pit of Mophet!
  23. Thanks! It's definitely ABS plastic The lighting might be a bit weird since I had to use flash, but I bounced it of the ceiling.
  24. The Fighting Pit of Mophet The oasis town of Mophet is situated along the oil road and is an important stop for travellers of all sorts between Petraea and Barqa. Its foremost attraction to visitors is the fighting pit, where fights against animals or even between gladiators take place. Betting is big business and after every fight substantial amounts change hands. Today, the fierce old Mitgardian bear Bruno fights a bestiarius who seems to have gotten himself into a tougher fight than he expected and have already added some of his own blood to the already bloody sand. Fights between gladiators also happen, but are a much rarer occasion. Today's highlight is a fight between a retiarius (lightly armored, but armed with a net and a long-reaching trident) and a secutor (heavily armored and with a sturdy shield and a sharp sword). Here, the retiarius has caught the secutor in his net and tries to take advantage of the situation. Whose blood will be next to color the arena sand? Mophet is situated along the oil road about half-way between Barqa and Petraea (not shown on this map): A painting of the pivotal point in the fight between Bruno and the bestiarius, who do you think won this fight? The previous days on the tour: Day 1 - The Withered Woods Day 2 - The Jungles of Gorr Day 3 - The Lone Mountain Day 4 - The Qar-Akhen Marshes Day 5 - The Dune Sea Day 6 - The Great Dragonboat Race Day 7 - Arkbri Falls Day 8 - Okatowan Gardens Day 9 - The Triumphal Arch of Petraea Day 10 - Amrakect Market Day 11 - One Year Party Day 12 - The Lion Dance
  25. Nice wall design, I like how you have relied on texture rather than different colors. Often mottling too much with colors can make the shape of the structure hard to make out in pictures, but this way it is very clear but still "alive". As you point out, you have really improved here! Keep it up!
