[MOC] Axis
Jeroen Ottens replied to hknssn's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cool, have you tried it with a sphere, like the original? What is the weight issue? The arms certainly look strong enough... Oh and I suppose you could also make a tilted rotating circle path? A bit more complicated goniometrics though ;) -
[MOC] Dinosaur!

Very funny :) And avery clever dinosaur, I love the double legs. Very, very smart solution for stability... Well done -

A few more weeks, and you'll get instructions for a white version in the deal as well... -
First green car that I've seen that really looks good in that colour... Very brave choice!

[MOC] Bell 47 Helicopter
Jeroen Ottens replied to paave's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very nice helicopter. You managed to squeeze in a fully operational rotor while keeping the model nicely proportioned. Impressive My only nitpick would be the pull bar made out of axles at the rear-rotor. That only works because of the friction in the lego elements. But other than that, very well done.- 23 replies

I'd be very interested to see that. Like I said, I like to learn and I do recognize that the area around the rearwheels is a bit off. -

Well said Alasdair @ItalianBrick: Always happy to learn to improve, so I'm interested in your view. What can be improved, what makes it ugly in your eyes? -

Thanks... And the instructions are as good as finished... Unfortunately my holiday will delay things for about a month... -
I had the same experience when building this set. The whole chassis is just not clean/elegant. There are no continuous beams going back to front, instead they make a step below the cabin to get some space for the gearbox, which breaks my mechanical heart. I found the whole building experience very unfulfilling. It is just so thrown together as a bunch of pieces... No flow on the inside, no flow on the outside. I had better saved myself the time building this thing (which is a first for me...)

I am making instructions of a model with ~1600 pieces in LPub. However it takes seconds minutes for each page to draw, every Add next steps, Add divider, etc. Is there a way to speed LPub up (different renderer, split the instructions up, other?)?

[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
Jeroen Ottens replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yeah that o is really, really useful. Found that one already :) Selecting a piece is indeed the trick to get the orientation 'right' again, thx. And yes I am working on a technic model , so far the learning curve is not too steep, which is a big compliment for Roland -
Hi, This question has probably been answered a thousand times already, but I couldn't find the answer . I want to add a part that consists of multiple parts (in this case the technic universal joint 3L). I have to use the separate subparts to make it connect two axles under an angle. In LPub it now shows up as three different parts instead of one assembly. What do I have to do to make it appear as one part in the instructions?

[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
Jeroen Ottens replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi, Another newbie question: It seems that LDcad remembers the orientation of the last part that is added. That is a very nice feature when you are building in weird angles (like I am now), however at some point I'd like to go back to the normal orthogonal grid for the newly added parts. Is there an easy way to do so? -
Technic racks
Jeroen Ottens replied to PirateSi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Using a long rack with grooves instead of a short one without grooves works, but that doesn't automatically means that it works the other way around as well... I have no experience with this part, but looking at the counterpart, these grooves appear to be essential to the function, so my guess is that it won't work the other way around -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
Jeroen Ottens replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks, I suspected already that it was somewhere in the partbin, I just couldn't find it. I don't have any other unofficial parts. I uploaded all unofficial parts and now it works :) BTW: It is a fantastic program. It's useability is close to LDD so far  -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
Jeroen Ottens replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
And some other newbie questions: What is the difference between nesting and submodels? How can I make submodels appear in the main model? -
[Software] LDCad - LDraw cad
Jeroen Ottens replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I'm starting to use LDcad (vs1.4) and I have the following issue: I try to use unofficial part 18651 (I added a directory Unofficial to the Ldraw directory with subdirectories /p and /parts. I added the 18651.dat to the /parts directory and confric4.dat to /p). I added the unofficial directory to the path as an unofficial directory. Now the part does appear in the partbin under technic/connectors and pins, however only the axle part is visible, the connector part of the piece is not visible. What have I done wrong? -
[MOC] The Mistress
Jeroen Ottens replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for all the positive comments. To answer some questions/remarks: The steeringracks as sideskirts were bothering me slightly as well, so I'll see if I can find a better solution for that. I will see how more straight sidepanels at the back look. The backside is the part I struggled most with in terms of styling. A lot of variants were either to boxy or looked like an owl face . I am planning on making buildinginstructions, but I'm not sure yet which learningcurve I want to climb for that. -
BMW i8 Spyder
Jeroen Ottens replied to Sheepo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As usual stunning internal techniques. Hybrid drive with an impressive speed boost  I am not sold on the looks though. It looks rather squarish and it misses that mean looking front face. Still the functions make up for that. Excellent model -
Hi, After a short detour in the wasteland I hereby present my latest MOC. I tried to make a 'classic' LEGO technic supercar with a modern look. Features: Independent suspension on all wheels HoG+steering wheel steering Butterfly doors (operated by two 20T wheels next to the air intakes) 5+R gearbox V10 fake engine Views from all sides: Front: Side: Back: Top (I particularly like the lines in this shot): Bottom: And the view with all doors open: It's a modular design (I should have made a photo of that ), which made the development actually easier. The total development time (including the two weeks I spend on transforming it into a TC7 entry was only 8 weeks. But as usual with my MOC's it isn't perfect yet... The doors need a little help during opening/closing and the front wheels touch some pins when steered to the extreme position (which, BTW, is more then the usual steering angle). Estimated piece count is less than 1600. Of which only a few are rare (2x 16L flexaxle in red, 1x 14L flexaxle in black and I'm not sure about the tan beams) Still, I'm pretty happy on how it turned out Comments, constructive criticism and feedback is much appreciated
