WIP MOC John Deere R4038
1gor replied to 1gor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks. It would be much smoother than wheel hubs. I'll see, perhaps I will redesign them in future. Due to unreliable Internet connection via my hm smartphone, I was not able to upload all images. Thankfully images are far from great (@Jim is now laughing about them and thinking - this moc looks on that kind of photos worse than it is in real World), so it is not such a dissapointment in that upload "fail". Thanks again for support- 9 replies

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
1gor replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No worries -
Hi fellow Eurobrickers, when we wait for 42069, 42068 and 42053 sets review, I use opportunity to present one of my WIP projects that I'm currently working on for about half a year. It is a 1:17.5 model of John Deere R 4038 Self propelled sprayer, but equipped with flotation tires, so I can enjoy mocing with Xerion tires. At the moment I'm not sure if there will be fake sprayer or spreader, will see what future brings. Major difference from original is the drive which I can make only full mechanical. You all know that hydrostatic drive can not be made with LEGO parts. This is the first MOC where I do not have to worry that it will be to wide, since real ones are up to 4,4 meters wide which is 31 stud... This MOC will feature - fake 6 cylinder engine - all wheel drive - all wheel steering - all wheel independent suspension - front and rear pto (since I can not simulate hydraulic valves) - bonnet opening... will see what is possible. So far I've managed to make right and left wheel hubs, which you can see in following images. (sorry for bad image quality, I'll make better images when front axle will be finished, which I plan this week). On the right side of every image you can see something like building steps (not real instructions, but kind of help if someone wants to build it). Any kind of comment, critics is wellcome. Thank you

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
1gor replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Similar, just solution with combination of universal joint and CV joint from Unimog steering is used for front (tracks) drive on 42069 set. Difference is that Unimog uses 5.5 axle, and 42069 uses red colored axle 6 -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
1gor replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
They compensate this problem with combination of 5L links and CV joint behind differential housing, 8110 Unimog U400 has it on steering (one of reasons that 8110 steering is not something special; not to say gisapointing), so not such big deal -

Like I said already, Best Technic set in 2017, but I'm starting to like 42068 after review by @Sariel; not to mention reviews from our expert photographer @Jim -

Jorge, To avoid Panhard rod I've used newer steering arms 5l instead 6L on your images...like here -

[MOC] Tractor Dump Trailer

You're wellcome Joskin trailers are more suited to my John Deere 7230R tractor (with wrong tires - baloon tires) -

Such ingenious idea can be expected from Edwin, you have only to look at his ships - like they are out of this world It is proper place for this moc -

Miha, first of all, with all my projects on schedulle I did not pay a proper attention to your trailer. Now I see that trailer could not be better, great steering solution, ideal tires with correct pattern, and functionality. Great that you did not chose Joskins trailer because red suits much better on Xerion that yellow. Igor -
Honestly I'm more Countach guy, and do not like modern hypercars at all but your interpretation leaves me speachless...starting to fream that LEGO maked (very) big wheels so my tractors, trucks... will fit the scale of that masterpiece. Really impressive, and photos are yust...I don't know what to say else, I run out of words (and probably out of mind)

Don't be demoralized, it is not a failure it is development, and testing new optimized solutions is natural way of development. Without that we will be steel hanging on trees, hm or in communism or sympthize left oriented politics that call itself liberal democracy There is one important rule in life - only when people hit the lowest point in life they are ready to change. So when you got to dead end with development of some part for your moc, try another way, take a rest a day or two, nothing is burning and eventualy you will succeedd and that will be one great experience...everybody had a bad project - there is even topic about that here on Eurobricks. Lucky for me that I did not document my failures -
Thanks. So far I have managed to make double shocks suspension with two small shock absorbers per wheel, and now have to make steering. When I optimize that, I'll start new topic (O.K. when my terrier from my profile picture will be less playfull )
-
That is most important when Artist is satisfied with his Art. About steering, curently I work on one self propelled sprayer that has also 4 wheel steering. The solution will be with beams to make slack as small as possible. After I develop this I'll try to make it with worm gears to test with power functions...so perhaps could be useful to your Monster About photos, my anciant Olympus sucks on night and cloudy weather...

At the end sprayer moc finished just fine. You inspired me to start my own topic with half a year old project - John Deere R4038 self propelled sprayer chassis with flotation tires

@Leonardo da Bricki front grill is really great - even color combo is good despite similarities with police cars. About photo quality I could say that @Jim has now serius competition. And "potato special" is very cool album name, but I wont show it to pesants around here - they all are growing potatos and me as more rice guy do not come along in best way.

Hi U do not use age as reference; because I've noticed that long time ago (working last 12 years in education) that you do not need to be older in order to be smarther; you learn whole life long and die as dope So with your attitude you are more serius and mature than most of my colleges (ok they are stucked in communism...). For cvt idea and LEGO solution is based on parts available. It is always cool to accept the challenge, but first you're making what you are certarin and then the rest. Dont stuck like me on self propeller sprayer model on front right wheel hub for half a year, where hydrostatic drive can not be represented correctly but with gears that slide beause this machine has independent all wheel suspension, so I agree on lack of LEGO realism because of parts -
Well I hope it is no petrified wood gemstone either, otherwise gemstone lovers will put a spell on him
