  1. Hey all, As some may know I held a layout for a couple of months last year. Well, it's back there again, taking a bigger footprint! Here's media from opening day! Layout is still a work in progress... nonetheless... enjoy! Will be up until July 25.
  2. The P42 in question belongs to the late Robin Werner. Unfortunately we lost him in September. His flickr is robstormer, I believe there are more pictures of the locomotive online. Thanks for the comments all! More coming.
  3. Hey all, Here's the first round of media from the Greater Florida LEGO Users Group Tampa display last weekend. \ Enjoy!
  4. NICE! Love it!
  5. Thanks guys and agreed! The FEC is my home railroad so I've wanted to do this for quite some time. Unfortunately I heard the 7400 was repainted into a standard scheme recently. Anyway, here's video of the new MOC as well as the 714 which I finished a week prior. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIeierajWpA
  6. Thanks all! @JopieK: what's funny is that the image you borrowed, was from a train that I did see in person! I had a friend with me, that train was sitting at a double track in Boca Raton because they had to recrew.
  7. Hey Friends! Here's my latest model, built just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Florida East Coast saw fit to repaint two locomotives in a special scheme to partner up with the Susan G Komen foundation. They look stunning, and I felt that I had to get around to building one. Hope you enjoy the pix!
  8. Early September was the close of the layout due to the beginning of the semester. Unfortunately, one of the GFLUGers who made my hobby possible, and did a lot of what you see in the above photo from post #14 of this thread, passed away the same day. Since the layout was successful, and I didn't lose any noticeable pieces, I am committing to a bigger display beginning this winter. Here's the video of the runs including POV video from front and side of train. <youtube>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeOfG4kR0nQ</youtube>
  9. Hi friends, quick question. Has anyone tried using the bridge cable as I like to call it, to connect Power Functions LED lights to a 9Volt Train motor? Considering doing it for a future project. Thanks!
  10. ^Thanks! Yes it is being considered. The locos received slight mods over time and now have some of the needed decals. GCRM ops. EDIT: I forgot that I actually already updated the thread to say they were decalled! OOPS!
  11. Thank you guys so much! Wanted to change things up for this one. Thanks! Yep we do, perhaps more emphasis on farmer's markets, urban farming, and sustainable stuff. My Honors College class had a project to design something for the city, and while I did a model of a "Smart Station" back in Spring I touched upon the Urban Farming project that classmates did, hence replicating that white hydroponic tower seen in the model.
  12. Wanted to share my second straight modular building! Essentially it's a mixed use building, ground floor has an open space with study area and farmer's market, with urban farm; and inside there is a bookstore and Cuban Coffee window (Miami style!). Second floor has more books and lounge space for the customers. Third floor is an all open space with a party scene and open bar. All levels fully furnished for the art of it :) Hope you guys enjoy my pics and video!
  13. Looks awesome! Love the colors.
  14. Thanks! Had those sitting in my fig bin, plus realized the Rogue 1 trailer was released too so neat fit! hehe
  15. Hello friends! Finally got back in the grind! My latest is a building built for the modular scale, quite simple actually but the focus is on the inside details. Video below: The ground floor features a Pasión del Cielo coffee branch, it's similar to recognizable names like Starbucks except aside from local pastries, your choice of coffee from 11 beans (which I felt the wall that they were displayed on was the coolest feature to build). They have locations in Miami and Mexico so I admit they probably aren't well known in the EB community but nonetheless something I want to share! The top floor features a store selling exercise/sporting material (and supposedly bikes as an ode to one of the coffee company's partners) and has a yoga studio. Wanted to capture different elements of the local lifestyle using LEGO Brick. Enjoy! Full size images available here https://www.flickr.c...157663424251735
  16. I really... really... like that fishing boat! Considering I'm planning a marina scene for my Gold Coast Railroad Museum layout, this will pan out real well. Looking forward to what comes next.
  17. I'm not crazy for much of what they've done, but I don't think they mean bad, probably trying to appeal to general audiences like some have suggested. But I did do something similar to video 5, except used way fewer pieces
  18. My hazard is about 1,200+ will fit. Got a small cup recently from Sawgrass, gotta love the loose scraps bins that they have, those had some good parts. Not in bulk, but just enough for what I wanted.
  19. Thanks! Actually the differences don't necessarily go by the side of the engine. The engine now sits 1 plate lower and has a whole new rear radiator. I actually made one more change to the long hood since photo was taken, but it isn't really worth noting. I am really trying to get a grip on my new video editing program to put out the video of it explaining the meat of the changes, but the software is giving me trouble!
  20. Fairly tough, but my vote is likely my Florida East Coast GE locomotive(s). It's a train which has a paintjob that is second-to-NONE!
  21. The engines have undergone a ton of changes! Here's a glimpse at what they look like now. Video coming soon!
  22. Beautiful tower!! Very inspiring... very cosmopolitan!
  23. Thank you! They are located in the long hood where the 8 SNOT tiles are. A fairly clever trick :) True! Actually the display is plastered with DO NOT TOUCH signs on the outside plexiglass.... yet of course if they bring their trains I can assist them in setting up. Indeed, having the option is a win win. Plus the added benefit of offering track time to something other than 4 GEVOs which will, in their pairs, max out their battery life. GFLUG was always very nice to have me run at shows over the last 12 years, here are some of my earliest models, this rather oddball CSX pair in Clearwater back in 2004! (dug up on Brickshelf). Those were the days... Now to simply pay it forward.
  24. LMAO! Yes! If I show you a video a fellow volunteer took with a GoPro, you just might want to add spikes to that bat. I've looked into grand curves and R104s... but not much money or space available at the moment .... Yep LOL! It was a narrow display and I wanted to keep things interesting with trackage. Wanted to make sure these curves were more fail safe and at least so far no real problems yet :). Unfortunately, no one ran guest trains... but I am sure that will come soon. The layout came together so last minute that I don't feel it was properly advertised. But similar scale events are not too far away at the museum. To answer your question, you could suppose the future IS indeed "bright"! Maybe those will like the curves better..... :D Thanks! Thank you all for the comments! The premiere, part of National Train Day, went quite well. Many enjoyed the moving LEGO trains and got images and video of them. There are things that can be improved, such as placement and lighting of course, and part of that is since this is a pilot for a possible huge future footprint at the museum's models. More media is coming but I raise a pic of a CSX train:
