  1. Haha, I unfortunately won't have time to build it for at least another year (work commitments) but I'd like to think as she is the one that suggested going, I'll take my chances! She will at least then know what she's letting herself in for and can decide then Actually sounds not such a bad idea Mine are always packaged extremely well, never dented and always packed with lots of air bags (bags of air?)...
  2. Bit of a dilemma for me on that... I kind of like the idea of rocking up to a store to buy one amd wheel it out Thing is, a new girlfriend who doesn't quite know the extent of my (addiction) collection, wanted to go to the Leicester Square store when I'm back in the uk. Should I buy it then and see her shocked I just dropped that much on a Lego set or order it online and potentially miss out on the wheely box
  3. I'm wondering the same thing... Do I buy it asap or do I wait for double vip, because that's a bucket load of vip points...
  4. Does anyone know when the next non-theme specific double vip event is? I'm wanting to get the UCS mf and the ninjago city... But I'd prefer to get the city first as I'll be getting that from the American website/dollars which will give me better value vip points to go towards the millennium falcon, $1=1vip / £1=1vip... I'd also prefer not to buy either one of these outside a vip event but I'm feeling needy of getting the ninjago city set soon, before the UCS MF...
  5. I can't even find the train as a current/retired product on the gb website... Yet it's still for sale on the US website...
  6. Likely they'll blame the 'falling/floundering' pound to it, which is bs because it's actually not at all. Or they're future proofing towards the unknown. Which again is bs because just look at the price difference of other new sets. Its erratic and inconsistent. I think it's more likely they have seen sales of WV sets do extremely well in the uk and see it as a licence to print money and push the price up further knowing we will likely still pay for it. Thankfully I'm in a position I can buy it from the American website and enjoy our strong pound against the dollar exchange rate
  7. For those questioning the re-use of boat rigging, perhaps the design Er was given a specific part count to work with, and felt that doing the engines similar to other moc'ers out there would have eaten up one hell of a chunk of extra pieces, so resorted to increasing the detailing elsewhere. The engines are at the back inside an upper and lower overhang. Not always on show unless you display it in the centre of your room, even so, the entire upper area is always seen regardless, unless you are below it. Therefore, I'd understand less increased detail on the engine than less detail on the top
  8. And nothing is stopping anyone from buying a model of one instead of the Lego version. I'll be buying the Lego model instead of a cheaper non Lego version.
  9. I have to say, I'm disappointed.... That it got leaked. From what looks to be a gorgeous set, and all the trouble they have gone to, to keep it under wraps, it would have been nice for it to be revealed for the first time, by TLG. Sure, a lot of people will still see it for the first time by TLG, but for us, we are outside of that... Oh well. As for the top hatch, I'll simply be finding a way to mod it to open!
  10. I kinda get what you mean, but what else were they going to do without giving away any actual image of it? I think it was a good 'teaser' as it put a solid confirmation to remove all doubt of the amount of parts in the set. What I am thinking now... Is that while Lego is still ultimately a kids toy, they are fully branching out and tapping into into what they feel is a market aimed at adults. This size isn't really much of a toy. Building experience? Sure, but after that? It'll just be a display piece. One that *most* parents would not be willing to/could not afford to splash out on for their kid. Sure there is guaranteed to be some, but let's be realistic, the price will be well beyond a normal working class kids birthday and Christmas present, even if put together. But they know there will be adults more willing to buy one for themselves, perhaps using their kids as a helpful excuse to buy it, or just those that want it for themselves, adults without kids and more disposable income etc. This isn't just a kids toy anymore, it really has moved into the 'highly sophisticated interlocking brick system' with this set.
  11. If it is 65 euros for that, it's definitely worth getting. It also doesn't look too bad really.
  12. I'm going to stick with the previously shown picture price point of $799, everything else is just guessing so far.
  13. I don't know if Wes is still keeping an eye on this thread, but if you are, I just want to say regardless if the theme continues or not, thank you for the set's done so far. They tap into the fantasy theme just perfectly, and seem to have only gotten better with each wave, especially hitting the nail on the head with the dragons! (still missing a black dragon though ;) )
  14. Can we drop the issue of pricing? Both of them are estimates as NONE have been officially announced by TLG yet so neither of you can guarantee who's is right just yet, REGARDLESS of who ends up being right. Its just nice having a ballpark figure, so leave it at that. Just2good, I look forward to seeing your review on the bomber as I'm sure the large price is due to the many large parts included and the figs, but it would be nice to see a decent review so I can justify to myself why I'm getting yet another set after having said 'no more'
  15. Therealharbinger wasn't asking when the MF is going to be revealed or why it hasn't been leaked yet, he was wondering (and so am I) where the *teaser* that TLG has leaked the past 2 Tuesdays, is, as it is now Tuesday. It looked like they had set a precedence of one leak every Tuesday until Sept 1st, but maybe it was just a 'two-off' kinda thing.
  16. If only that cow!!! Id be all over that cow suit minifig!!
  17. I think you've become lost on the Internet. This is a Lego forum, not an actual 'ship in a bottle' forum. If I wanted an actual ship in a bottle experience, I'd buy an actual ship in a bottle model to build. This is a Lego ship, in a Lego bottle. It is therefore an actual Lego ship in a Lego bottle. Just because it is not built how it's scale modeller's counterpart is built does not in any manner suddenly mean it's not what it is intending to be. Nor is it a cheat set. You build it like Lego, it looks like Lego, because funnily enough it is Lego, and because of that it can't always imitate everything, which is perfectly acceptable and does not take anything away from it being a Lego set of a ship in a bottle, it looks really good for a static display piece and I'll certainly be getting one. And I'll enjoy seeing I have a proper Lego ship in a bottle.
  18. No that doesn't nor shouldn't be factored into the rrp at all. What about the people that buy it from the shop? Lego likely has some sort of deal with a shipping company which makes it cheap for them to ship due to the shear amount of products they ship. Most large manufacturing/product selling companies have some sort of contract with shipping companies so no, shipping doesn't get taken into account in rrp as half the time the customer pays anyway.
  19. Slave 1, 10 cents per piece. But you knew that wouldn't suit your argument so you missed it out. Before that, sandcrawler, 9.1cents a piece!!! And before that? Ewok village at 12.9 cents a piece. They can drop the price when they want to, and raise it also when they want to. If you're going to average it out, do it consistently or not at all. Ewok village was a few years back yet has just 2 minifigs less than assault on hoth (15/17), one of the modern ones, and yet assault on hoth has more parts as well, yet is cheaper? You can't shut something down as not happening simply by averages when Lego doesn't always play by averages. Yet they have proven it *is not* out of reach as a possibility by any stretch. Considering the US price has been shown to be $799, and the parts count is estimated to be 7500ish (7000-8000, but i believe closer to 7000, maybe even very high 6000's), then it is entirely reasonable. They would quite easily do this because for such a large set, they still have to make it look worth it as the price will be a HUGE factor for a LOT of people, as clearly displayed in this thread. $800\7000 =11.4 cents a piece. Easily achievable given your average you said. Death Star is clearly a proven seller, as shown by its time being sold. It also had a revamp with some extra pieces and new fig prints to justify a price boost. It still comes in at a respectable and relatively low 12.5 cents. You're acting like it's impossible. But your figures if anything, show it can be possible (especially when you decide to factor in the slave 1). Might I also add, if they didn't adopt a business model of making less money at times, then there would not be a fluctuation in price per piece, they'd simply just keep the price the same or up it. They know when to put value ahead of price. That's why the old death Star was 8 years for the same price while other prices were fluctuating/inflation taking a steady pace. They are also likely able to keep the cost down I imagine due to hardly any exclusive moulds. Even the potential new cockpit piece has been made and used elsewhere under their own licence. Free to use as they like. Where else would require new moulds given the vast amount of new pieces already available since the last iteration? That there is how they can freely choose to keep the cost down and make it look enticing for value (regardless of the hype behind it). It'll make people think 'oh hell, even at that price, it's pretty good value, I'm not going to be getting ripped off, I'm in for one!'...
  20. 496 pages, fair amount more than the death star. Still positive 'it just won't happen'?
  21. If I remember rightly, the UCS x wing and system set x wing were available at the same time?
  22. You're likely looking at £650+ / $799ish... (according to a picture which appeared to show the retail price for it on a POS terminal in a TLG shop) *edit* Oh jeese! I just saw the price of the one you linked!!
  23. That's the piece I was on about, that gryffindorresistance mentioned, that has been known about as a possibility for a while.
  24. He hasn't really said anything different that we haven't already pieced together (such as that new cockpit piece in the ninja film set) or anything else that we could have reasonably guessed to be the case so there's no need to get all hyped up as though it's a new piece of information.
