  1. i'm split on this one. sure, i can see the high quality of the old boxes, sure they were ideal to store parts, to collect entire sets,... sure, today you have to damage a box according to lego to open one... on the other hand... i think it's a lot easier to steal from those old boxes. just open the flap, cut the plastic and voil
  2. weird... but maybe they have to do that... not smart though because it's highly unlikely they know every brand in the world
  3. i mix them btw, you don't need a brick seperator. just put another plate on the one you're trying to get off and push both to one side. that saves your finger fingers quite a lot of misery
  4. thanks however, do you know what really happens to that mighty fleet of pods? this: yep, they get smashed into the rocky desert, the get recycled and parts end up in new pods... :-X X-O i am building a pod fleet (just bought about 20 new pods), but getting all the other parts is a bit more difficult :-( i still need to buy the black pods for my black ops i promised
  5. it's normal for someone who came back from the "dark ages". your first year you are trying to catch up on however many years you have not kept in the loop. so naturally any information is welcome and actually fuels your desire further. once you catched up with all there is to know you will start to slow down. if you confuse this slow down with loss of desire, then another dark age will develop. i think people need to understand that growth can't perpetuate forever. it's nice to always be stuck in a 20%-30% high growth phase but it is not possible. if you are bored, do something else for 6 months and when you come back in 6 months there will be a ton of information which you need to catch up on...providing you a heady rush which you so desired. no i don't think it's that either... I mean, am I satisfied with all the sets I got? Am I less hungry compared to last year? I don't think so, the adrenaline, so to speak, is gone. You don't want to buy everything the moment it gets released...
  6. nono i'm not talking about Dark Age per definition, but more the feeling that you've lost that fanatical touch to it. it's like 'ok guys, if anything new gets released, i'll hear about it later on, when it suits me best' Last year i would search lots of websites, looking for just bits and pieces, any type of news was good, whenever i went to city, I would automatically go to all shops to see if they had anything new, this year, when i go to the city, I find that I don't even feel like visiting these shops... I still buy lego there, but the actuall urge is gone... If i don't buy it today, then perhaps tomorrow... Compare it bit with getting a brand new car you bought: at first, you want every one to see it, you wanna drive it, you wanna clean it every 5 minutes... but at one point... it becomes a car, nothing more, something you still like, you stil wann drive, but not ... you know what I mean. So no, it doesn't have to do with a budget, or building Mocs, not your personal life that changes, it's something else...
  7. just a few green pods at the repair shop... brickshelf
  8. i don't really see the harm in this Moc either, it's not what i usually build, but i'd like to see a series, sure! :redsmyliehappy: in fact, i like the cheese! must remember that! besides, if this were a political pamflet, i'd say it fits every country, if you put it horizontally, it could represent the Dutch! they love cheese as well! and it's damn good one!! :blacksmylielaughing:
  9. this is what SuvieD wrote in another topic, i just thought I'd copy and paste it into this new thread because I find it very relevant to my own Lego experience in this last year. I also spent a lot on lego last year, but i've hardly bought anything new this year and it is very well possible that next year will be even less... Are we falling back into our Dark Age? are there others who feel they're scaling down?, buying less than a year before, because they lose ... i don't know... a connection ?
  10. no clues! did you forget to bring it to our boards, this morning when you logged in? :blacksmylielaughing: i'm still without my Moderating Powers so i'll ask an admin to give you one... The French admin council was really pissed off by your MOC, therefore you have been stripped from the space tag for now !! We will give you the tag when you have shown a little respect for other cultures and countries. Yoda hm... i didn't think the moc is bad, in fact, it's kinda funny, i'd love to have a belgian version please... as he stated, yoda, he didn't intend to insult you or any other French man... i also don't think you should punish our member just because he did something you don't agree with with, in fact, come to think of it, i think we've seen things in the past that were a bit more sensitive than this, like the concentration camp thing...

  12. they mostly kept 2 copies of recent sets, but the older ones were unique, sometimes they even kept the sets in plastic packaging material, it seems they just took two or just one directly from the production/packaging factory straight to the vault. Didn't see yellow castle though...
  13. trust me, we already toasted to TT at our own spot in the 'steak house'; i never mentioned the others there for two reasons: i don't know all the people who were there; i didn't want to implicate the others i do know where there, that's up to them don't know where you got this mini EB event thing from. apart from the fact that all 5 of us were eb members , this had nothing to do with EB, it was a private get-together of a few friends...
  14. nono this is just a space Moc. In fact, there are several of this type.
  15. did i see this right? the blue cone of the nose is not attached to any other part? you just slide it over the blue cilinder?
  16. yep, exploriens droid
  17. welcome to our corner of the Lego universe! :-)
  18. when i first got the news i'd be allowed in, i thought i had to wear these plastic gloves and i most likely would not be allowed to take photos, especially with a flash light. The instructions however, were rather simple: "be very very carefull, if you pick them up, be very very carefull"; there was however, always some one keeping an eye on what was going on and i most defenitely think they only allow people in there they know/trust. so in the end, the risk of real damaging is small, even absent... also, the people I saw there had A LOT of respect for the boxes/sets; these are not the people who are to rip open boxes or damage sets in any way... quite the contrary even... Sure, not all boxes were in excellent condition, for whatever reason... they should spread them out more, limit the risk of shelf ware... i think the boxes/sets are safer than you'd think... the room is quite dark, the shelves are solid, i didn't see damaged/worn out boxes due to whatever circomstance. as an historian, i've seen archives and excuses of archives in conditions that were a lot worse than this ...
  19. the vault is located in the basement of a fairly large house/warehouse of the company's plant not very far from Legoland. i don't know if i'm allowed to say how exactly I got in, but it helps to know a few people who work for the company ;-) They surely don't want to advertise this too much, after all, many of these sets are fragile and easily stolen. it's most definitely not their intention to turn the vault into a tourist attraction. in short, I was very very very lucky... the vault is organised based on year of release. Every shelf refers to a timeframe of a few years. However, it's very easy to missplace older boxes from one section to another, especially if you have people there who are taking pictures and need to find a good spot to position the sets they want to photograph... other sets come and go so it seems. at the back, there was a shelf filled with already released 2006 sets, like the xwing but also older stuff. Old pirate ships and a few other things where on a table nearby, probably to be put back into shelf; Other, like lego basic, was some place else as well... not every set ends up in the vault either. Promotional sets, being produced outside the Billund plant, are not always sent to the Billund vault. Consequently, several well known promos where just not in the house. This one wasn't there either
  20. i went to that sacred place called "the vault" a few days ago. it's basically a rather small room, i'd say 8-10 meters to 4-5 meters filled with mobile shelves of wich half is filled with lego sets going back to the 60's... i guess it won't surprise you to know i mostly focused on space sets: some space sets were missing in action, though. We couldn't find the '918', the smallest member of the family: still, they had this spectacular 8 wheeler, designed to torpedo all Hobbes' modified police boats and xwings :blacksmylielaughing:
  21. glad everything ended ok... it could have been a lot worse... anyway, you think you owe me only 20 reviews? :-P

    8 PLANETS!

planets get created by definitions. add just one factor and you can limit the number of planets in our solar system even more, add two factors and you've decreased the number to 4... the question is not how many planets there are in the solar system and fit a definition to that, the question is to get a general definition for what a planet is, based on a few elements, like it has to rotate around a star; the problem with definitions in this case is that if you go too wide, you get too many different objects on your list, if you allow no flexibility at all, you get a list that's pracically useless on a universal scale... it's like a definition for the scientific concept of 'life' for instance... You mention 'size' as a factor. Size has nothing to do with a definition for planets, just as it has nothing to do with the definition for a star. a neutron star, the sun and Betelgeuse are all stars even though a neutron star is smaller than our planet, Betelgeuse has about the size of our solar system. however, if size was a factor for this definition, then they should have allowed several other objects already... the reason why this debate goes on and on is that the definition comes down to a description of factors. Some people give priority to one factor while other astronomers find other factors far more relevant ... in the end, it's about getting enough people behind your list of factors to form a new definition... and then there's politics. Some people/institutions support one specific option because they're conservative or progressive, because they started the debate decades ago, because they're a 'name' in the community,... Come on... we see this type of discussions in history almost on a weekly basis...
  23. :-X :-X :-X :-X for this, city mayor, you should go to jail! yes, to jail, and throw away the key! oh yes, and no more staff position for you either!!! cos, my dear jailed and demoted city mayor, you FORGOT the very very very best city hospital EVER!!!! :-X :-X :-X

    8 PLANETS!

the entire debate is crap, really. before the start of the convention there was a majority to get 12 planets in our solar system, Charon, for instance , would finally be recognised as a planet, because it was one according to the definition. there are other planets standing even further away from the sun than pluto that will at one point in history be accepted as planets in our solar system. Downsising the solar system to 8 is just a typical conservative reaction to the explosion of discoveries in our universe; we've seen it with Copernicus, Galilei and others... oh well, in the end, it's only a category, a title, nothing more... if you wanna teach your kids there are but only 8, fine by me, however, it seems hardly relevant in any case and no doubt they'll re open this debate in no time, hoping they will find a majority to change it all just one more time...
  25. i'm wondering what color the gg starfighter will have. according to the pic it's more or less purple... that would be a first for a space ship...
