  1. great to hear from you again! sorry that not everything went as planned, but i guess that's life... looking forward to that moc of yours!
  2. i think they're hanging on to sw as long as possible, thinking they'd never be able to sell as many lego sets without the sw tag on it. and don't forget, they're seriously boosting the sales of all the rest as well with sw sets.
  3. i think there are several reasons for why playmo is doing better than Lego: playmo has always limited herself to what she does best: produce playmobil sets; they didn't invest in theme parks, no pc games, no clothing,... they haven't changed their strategy for years. they just produce playmobil stuff that seems to have been around for many years now... However, their distribution system is just as lousy as Lego's: they also don't deliver in time, but at least they do deliver the sets you actually ordered. they don't seperate their different market sections, they just produce their stuff for the entire world, i don't even know if they have a factory in the US. I guess playmo is most of all a European player with no real ambition in the US, unlike Lego. They also don't get in bed with licenses. I'd say their products are relatively cheap compared to Lego. they also have, or had i should say, one typical world: that of the classic figure. their products aren't split up in different sections as is the case with Lego. Last week i saw all sets that playmo has produced this year on the shelf of a shop and i have to say, the range of products is huuuge. Lego also produces 200 sets a year, but it's all diversified into different age categories, not to mention the number of parts Lego needs to have in production very often for only one or two sets, unlike playmo. In terms of their catalogue i just feel they're so much more producing stuff that their public wants. They don't seem to be affected by the typical "we want modern soldiers, weapons,..." request. Maybe the problem here is that Lego has been leaning too much on boys aged 8-12. Playmo has also been very lucky that Lego did so badly in the last decade. Contrary to what many people think, both companies are very strong competitors in Europe. When I was 8-12, the choice in a toy shop was always between playmo and Lego. sometimes we went for playmo, sometimes Lego. So if one of both loses market share, it's the other one picking it in...
  4. OK, I voted "yes". I liked the premise of FBTB. I left because it was marred by a bunch of pr1cks. A FBTB without said people could be excellent. And Yes, SW has almost taken over the "theatre" area so having its own area would make space for other lines. well look at it from another side: if star wars already dominates the theatre, then why would it need a seperate forum anyway, it gets all the attention it needs obviously. second, the other licenses have had their best moment a couple of months ago, when batman was released and all about starwars was mor or less quiet, and hp... well... there hasn't been any new set so...
  5. i like the shape. these white slopes are quite popular these days to build star ships, usually people add trans clear sloped windscreens, but they may rather difficult to attach to the rest of your structure. and maybe you can add some pc's as well ... or turn it into the observation room... the 'playability card' should work, sure, or just tell people the force field around it keeps the air inside... that's actually the easiest way out :-P
  6. funny thing... a majority votes 'yes', but none actually post something... if you want a seperate sw forum, go to fbtb, they've got dozens... we wouldn't gain anything from it though, nothing we actually want anyway, like great new members...
  7. well the essential factor not to buy SW sets is the price, whether set look cool or not. Many of these sets are not just expensive, many reach a price range of 60-130 euro, that's really a lot, especially compared to the other Lego themes. add to that, the number of UCS sets which are fairly high in price as well and a general interest in Lego sets of other themes and you're pretty much in trouble if you want all sw + a good deal of others.

i think it's 7776, but we don't have pics yet... it's only 30 euro, so don't expect too much..., it's not going to be a classic pirate ship...
  9. well they were most of all refering to the heads of the city minifigs. a policeman for instance, can just as easily have a classic smiling face when he's controling traffic... there are many consumer groups who collect these opinions and just swing them into the media. trust me, sooner or later you'll get women's groups complaining about the lack of female figs in lego as well... i think, btw, that the fleshies are a different matter. that's because of licenses...

That is a good point, where can we learn more of this shipwreck set? I haven't checked the other thread yet so I'm posting in ignorance. i think you're gonna have to have a pirate line with minifig sets if you want to expand the pirate fan base. a shipwreck in a completely different line is not going to have lots of kids want to build actual pirate ships, because they don't have a good example. The most recent pirate ship was the legend and that's already a few years ago... kids need to be inspired by Lego-built pirate ships, they need to have a context in which these things are presented...
  11. Isn't it egyptian related aswell or am I mistaken ? didn't you read my entire post? sooooo disappointed... X-O :'-( :-X :-P
  12. 'snefroe' is the name of my cat. whenever you needed to register at websites you're supposed to give a password and a username or something of the sort. To make sure you wouldn't forget your password, there was the option to ask yourself a question like 'what's the name of your pet?', the answer would lead to the password. I've been using this one for about 5 years now, the cat is of about the same age. We just couldn't find any decent name for this one so we opened a book with the list of all the names of the pharaohs and decided on 'snefroe - senefroe - snofroe', the first being the best, and she actually listens to it! I can't remember where the '1' comes from... i think i added this one day because you were required to add a number to your password, so when I registered here, I almost automatically added '1'. however, many people here seem to refer to me with 'sne', which is very weird to hear for some one who has dutch as his mother language. We would rather say: 'snef'...
  13. i remember several parent's groups complaining about this in the US a while back... I don't think it's that bad though. the city heads still look good to me. still, some :-) from time to time wouldn't hurt
  14. this was also in the Billund pab. we thought that wasn't allowed so we asked an employee there but they couldn't care less. i don't think it was 15 dollars though...
  15. be careful with the things you say here! before you know it, this will be your new title, and then you'll be tagged for the rest of your life :-P

that 's a weird story... broken monorail molds? don't think so. Lego said that all old molds get destroyed after their operational life. that's why some of the parts of the old days can't be produced anymore, that's why some legend parts had been replaced by new parts. i'm thinking that they'll keep the molds for about 10-15 years or so and then they're gone. And even if they have old molds, it seems unlikely that they will use those again at one point. My guess is that they just produce new molds according to the specifications of the old mold, but that would have to mean that the software that goes along with the actual mold is also still out there... in any case, now that the production is in the hands of an entirely new producer, it seems unlikely that they'll be using old molds again...
  17. well i guess much depends on how big of a Star wars fan in general you are. If you're not really into it, it's easier to lose interest. I guess it's like the trekkies: they would probably love a 'Lego Enterprise' every year. it doesn't matter if it's good or bad, they'll buy it anyway. It's this fairly large fanbase of sw that keeps the license going, they're not an assurance that the sets will become major sellers, but at least they provide the company with a decent sale every year. As long as that works, they'll even continue after 2011. still, I can relate to what you're saying. Nothing compares to that feeling when you got your very first xwing fighter, waaaaaay back in 1999.
  18. Here is a pic of the shield and the handle. It is a two piece item. The peg will fit snug, but after repeated removal it will become loose. We suggest to use a very small drop of plastic safe hobby glue/super glue. But at first decide for youself if you want it left handed or right handed. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/sith35/B...ink/shield1.jpg Now when it comes to paint. There are a few things. The easiest is to prep the piece. Basically just mild dish soap and water. Give it a wash and the paint will stick better. You can always prime the piece first. I know games workshop has a plastic safe spray paint that works great for priming. Also I have heard about a new spary by krylon I believe called plasticoat. I have not used it yet, but I plan on it. It is designed to stick to plastics that have problem bonding with paint. As far as decals go. I have not done too much at all with decals. So I am not going to try and answer that question for you. But, my best guess would be if a decal is having a hard time sticking to the surface. I would prep it with dish soap and water. Dry it well and give it a try. Chris. thanks! i'll keep these things in the back of my mind untill i find te time to start this work...
  19. we once got pics of the pab of germany, and that was megablocking amazing! so amazing that we started to question whether this was actually a public shop... Khorne has been there, he should be able to tell us...
  20. All of our pieces are factory molded. They arrive to us on the sprue. We do our best to make sure they are clean before they are shipped out. By the sounds of it, better pictures are needed to be put up. This is true. A hobby knife, or a good pair of Diagonal Cutting Plier does very well for this. And gylman, thanks for posting this. Chris. adding pics of the parts from other angles would be great, so we can have a good idea of the entire part. now that i'm working on this shield contest at mcn, i'm kinda thinking of building an army of crusaders next year, so i'll probably be buying some stuff in a few month's time... i'd most defintely be painting the parts though... still, i've got two questions: how strong is the handle of these shields? Sometimes things like that seem quite fragile how easy is it to add stickers/decals to this plastic? I seem to remember that plastic not always 'hold' these things... are you guys customising these parts yourself as well, like painting, adding stickers,...?
  21. gotta have atst and y-wing! minifig packs i don't care imperial transport doesn't look any good, but then i wasn't expecting a lot gc looks exactly as I was not hoping for, it's a minimalist version of what it should have been don't we have the prices for the things somewhere?
  22. No offense, but is there anything that could "please" you at the moment? Reading your comments over the last few weeks I sometimes think not even a revival of Classic Space would make you happy... 1) if Lego were to create a galaxy explorer with new grey wings or just another type of canopy, i'd be just as pissed. i'd be very happy with any space set in the Legend program, but i'd be a LOT happier with space ships that are completely new, innovative and creative. I don't even have to like them, just as I don't like many old space sets, as long as they add something to the world of Space. Just as long as i don't have the feeling that ship B isn't the same as ship A from last year but only with a 12x6 wing insted of two 4x8 wings. That's what lego used to do: they used to stimulate individual creativity, not by rehashing old models, by replacing a few parts here and there, by releasing in an alternative model as new sets, but by releasing new models, based on new designs, new ideas,... i don't want a revival of old themes/sets, i want a revival of how they used to develop new models/themes, and how they used to think about lego. To them, lego these days, no longer is a construction toy, it's a set that you build and then play with for the rest of it's life. you don't design new models with these parts, you just "play" with it, as if it were hasbro models... 2) what's pissing me off seriously, is the lack of creativity and originality of the themes/sets. It seems these designers are only allowed to follow very strict rules of what can and what can't be done. There's no one saying: 'hey let's not give this submarine a yellow color, cos we've been doing that for the last few years now'; or 'let's not go for an underwater theme or firestation or a policestation, cos we've really done this several times before; let's try to build something else, something that would really surprise the costumer...' They used to do that in the past, now they're so scared of taking any chances with something new that they're just following the guidelines of what was successful last year; then they just pick out the best elements, put them together in a theme and voil
  23. im with sne on this one.. and yes we kind of ecxpected creatures like that crab and yellow aqua stuff..its no big wow and no surpise.. and what the heck is that boat about?they painted the hull red and called it fire..lets paint it white next year and call it hospital!!! Like heck. We expected red trans, open-to-the-elements canopies like in the aquatic Alpha Team, along with gap-filled monsters made out of reject parts. These guys are pretty far away from that... the subs being more sane looking (though the tridents need to go on that one...) and the creatures instead being creator set lookin'. They're not what we expected... they were a nice suprise, considering the gloomy assumptions. I've seen fire boats with red hulls. I'm not sure what the issue is you're trying to make. so you are telling me that this submarine http://brickset.com/search.aspx?Set=4792-1 dosent remind you at all of that in the 7773 set? im not saying that the new line isnt better but lets not say that we have never seen this before! In that it's yellow, yes. But aside from the tridents on that one, they're not slap-in-your-face ridiculous. They look much better. No GIANT monster hands coming off, more convincingly streamlined, "serious" animals instead of... whatever those things were in Alpha Team... :-D don't tell me the small set does not resemble this one! even the minifig is almost a copy of it... Sure, it's all a lot better than the origenal Alpha team, in fact, the first alpha team looks almost like the prototype team for this team. what surprises me the most is that the designer of this new team was supposed to be a brand new designer... hm... he clearly has all the catalogs of the last few years lying on his desk... as i said before, the trans red in that space station was not a reference to what we'd get in this theme, it probably came out of a box with all transparent parts of the last several years that's in the designer's shop. We've seen this box in Windsor, heck , i even got blue transparant futuron parts out of it. Besides, 1 section of the old alpha team has yellow-dark grey-black parts with trans-black parts all over it. this is just 'the next generation: alpha team with some new slopes, and newly created monsters, that's it... they did, however, keep the alpha team's rotors... about the creatures there... g... i'd be very surprised if they'd gone back to the dreadful 1 piece monsters... i'm just hoping not ALL themes in the future will have a variant of the creator shark, like this theme has, not to mention the crab...
