hm... i think the helmets are pretty cool, but you can see on the pictures that they still need some more work once you've bought them: they still have parts of the plastic skeleton attached to them. you're gonna have to remove those, the only problem is that that particular spot on your weapon isn't painted :-X

i'm feeling kinda neutral about this, really. It looks like Alpha team 2: same colours, same style, same pieces... nothing particularly spectacular -
well it's not that pretty close I'm afraid. It's not close to any airport and taking the train isn't very practical either. :'-(

How Well Do You Like the Ninja Theme?
snefroe replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
hang on! i said: 'Ninja was never popular around here', meaning, it didn't do all that well in Belgium. 1998 was the moment when Lego lost popularity thru out the lines and suffered from a shrinking toy market in favor of PC games; In fact, until not so long ago, you could still buy ninja sets in certain shops. nobody wanted them... I find that current popularity of Lego lines does not mean people are willing to buy the old sets as well. if i recall right, you said the same thing about the WW line. it doesn't mean the theme wasn't popular or liked else where. and doesn't say anything about the quailty of the theme in general. ;-) it seems you are suggesting that LEGO's sales started to decline around the time of these two themes, 1996-1999. is this a fact for the whole company or just your area ??? im curious. as i view the theme that is a bit generalized. you could sum up any theme in a few words like that. pirates, definitely castle (even less story), and even star wars !!!i acutally think this in one of the highest conceptualized themes out there, next to adventurers. - BrickMiner yep, i did say the same about the WW theme! Lego did not do well between 1996-1999. i'm not making this up, you know, i've talked about these things with my local shopkeepers and the Lego rep in Belgium confirmed it in interviews: they all clearly stated Lego was not doing very well at all in those days. In fact, the reason why they went into informatics was because they had lost all faith in the brick-concept, it just didn't sell anymore... it's that simple. you're wrong if you think that Lego got into trouble in 2003 or so , found that out in 2004 and started reforms in 2005. That's simply not the case, it's been an ongoing evolution for quite some time before 2004. Lego lost 30% of her costumers globally in the late 90's-2003 to playmobil, so don't tell me these short-lived lines were highly successful. they were not. City wasn't doing great either, Space (ufo, roboforce, insectoids, mars) was a shadow of the past. However, the situation in belgium was much worse than any place else, because of bad management in the 90's, before we got this new guy. Since 2005 sales have improved with 400 000 sets, totaling 2.000 000 sets for 2005. i never said there's a link between high quality and popularity. WW is one of the best lines I've ever seen, young boys were just not interested. they all wanted pc games instead, in a toymarket that is still dimishing! There was hardly anything that Lego could have done... Pirates had a backstory with even actual names for the major roles and both castle and pirates had a lot more sets to make up a decent story yourself. if you check Lugnet, you'll see this theme hardly had anything more than individual minifig packs and two medium-large castles. -
People on a Megabloks forum want to know why...
snefroe replied to Echo's topic in General LEGO Discussion
1) i don't think it's proper to bash any site for whatever reason. there used to be a bashing hype between EB and fbtb in the past. that wasn't particularly funny either and it didn't really do anybody any good. as some one said 'live and let live' 2) not so long ago, we, the Lego purists, started a topic about the wonders of 'playmobil' and we all agreed that's what we wanted lego to do. and we all got angry at Lego for not having those sets/themes produced. I can think of several things that Playmo has done in the past where lego will never ever go... I won't even start about lack of creativity and diversity in lego themes, not to mention the highly questionable strategy/decisions of not producing female minifigs, weapons,... 3) i wouldn't be too critical of MB-quality either... we have our own topics these days about the lousy Lego quality. Every time i open a new set, I pray that I'll get all the right parts undamaged and in the right colour... People are even complaining about the low quality of boxes... 4) according to european law, Lego has no right to claim the brick-concept as their own. It's not their patent, MB and others have the right to use it as well. if they chose to cut costs and produce lower quality stuff for a mainly American market where consumers prefer lower prices to higher quality, then so be it... 5) Yep, Lego was not the first to come up with the lego brick. I've actually seen brick concepts of that type in a Belgian museum, even though I'm not saying Lego 'stole' the concept. The company was just idealy placed at that point to do something with it on a large scale... -

I find that current popularity of Lego lines does not mean people are willing to buy the old sets as well. i don't find these sets to be very spectacular. the printing is very cool, the parts are nice but the (larger) sets themselves are not fantastic. the actual story behind it isn't very clear to me either. to my knoledge, Ninjas were the guys you could hire for what we'd call 'black ops-situations'. the others were supposed to be the good guys and that's basically it? a bit thin, i'd say... -
you can easily do so, i mean it doesn't have to be a moderator to start these contests. i was actually waiting until the end of the mecha contest, because some space fans wouldn't be able to participate in two contests at the same time...

g... you have been away for a while, haven't you? 1) vikings has two army building sets, sure there's a catapult in it as well, still... 2) ninja was not very popular around here, so why bother 3) basketball sets didn't do well here, don't know about the football, in any case, it's quite normal to have team packs with those...

One of the few old SW sets that is sorely missing from my colelction... if it wasn't for 9 euros i'd never have bought this..; thank god the shopkeeper is a moron and doesn't seem to know it should be more like 90 euro... oh well... They wouldn't happen to have a second one, I suppose? ;-) well it's funny how they operate. they only put one or a few on the shelf, and when that's gone, they put a new one there, so i'm keeping an eye on that shop. if they do have one, i'll pm you

if you spend one day with Master Yoda, you'll know he only has one quote, not the bunch he's having in his sig... if you want to know what that line is, I suggest you come to the event in Germany, you'll hear it a million times! :-P

when i got up this morning, I just felt I had to buy something 'Lego-ish' today X-D the intention was to buy the big airplane, but along the way, I remembered I needed yellow plates; so i went to look for a set with yellow plates and... didn't find any! >:-( :'-( *sing* so i bought 2 v-wings instead... i'll build one... for two minutes, then both will be scrapped and go to the parts collection... so i went to my local second hand shop to see if they had any set with yellow plates, they did, this one, but i didn't go for it after all... then i bought 6790/6791 and 6649
-
we have one somewhere... too lazy to look for it though... X-D

as yoda said, compared to the rest of the city, these planes are huuuge... but not just to the rest of the city, to the actual airport as well, because if we're going to compare this set with real scale, then i'm afraid this airport is just a little bit too small. Lego has always accepted certain margins for their sets; all sets were compatible for a minifig city, these planes are not... in fact, the XXL crane isn't either, but hey, that is XXL, the airport planes aren't even jumbos
