well perhaps they do realise that the system is old and outdated, but it may just be a too complex operation to change the system all together. besides, a forum like ours demands a different approach from a staff member than the Lugnet service. Take a look at what Phes is doing with Pirates section in order to get more pirates fans, perhaps staff members of Lugnet are just not ready for that...

i think it's too high. you only get parts, no boxes, instructions, you can't even check if these sets are complete... i also don't think the minifigs are highly interesting. some look customised, the buildings aren't interesting either and are Mocs. i think you're better off getting the parts you really want on bl and let this one pass...

that's a lie...that's scandinavia...not europe. :-P and it's sweden, norway and finland...go vikings go! :-D and of course you know where holland is...you're europeans. :-P do you know where guatemala is without looking at a map? how about papua new guinea? angola? :-P not so good now eh? ;-) hm... honestly, i think these european countries are just a tiny bit more relevant than Guatemala or Papua New Guinea... with all due respect... and yep, we do get all that stuff at school ... more than once, even... ;-)

1) Islanders is basically just one direction a pirate story can take. a classic pirate film, in my opinion, is still about pirates fighting soldiers at sea, having islanders involved is just an option. In fact, you could even say that lego spent quite a lot of effort on that option... 2) i do agree that potc has gone quite far in using fantasy elements. i think they're facing the same problems as lego: a pirate story is so limited in story telling that you just need other elements to keep it interesting and exciting for a general public. because of that, it's lost authenticity, and i wouldn't be surprised if the third film won't even be a pirate film anymore, but a film of the fantasy genre

you lost me... as smylies?

well i guess divers was just a city subtheme, never meant to be the next best thing... just a nice subtheme in that regard, it just did what was expected, it sold for a while, perhaps not all that well, and a year later it was all over again, nothing more to it, really... i think Space was launched at the right time for lego. it was the time of the first Space Shuttle from NASA, in the year of the first sw film that lead to an explosion of highly popular tv series and films thru out the 80's. No doubt in my mind that the first space sets, which had a production run of a staggering 5 years, are still amongst the best sold lego sets ever. I guess space lost interest because it didn't really evolve with the new generation of kids. Kids need more today than we used to. we were quite happy with simple models with basic bricks and plates, today, sets need to be far more complex and sophisticated. space also wasn't aggresive enough, it was all about exploration or catching thieves without any laser gun involved... that type of naivity is gone, these days... kids want to have armies with guns, cannons,... a space theme today would be far more like exo force: 8 sets or so, all heavy artillery, gunships,... weapons of whatever kind... that's why the old space stuff is part of history and will never ever come back... in return, however, we get sw, that allows us to build the starships we want to build... Still, it would be nice to have an official, but modern, space theme again...

hm... perhaps lego should build us a globe with all european countries on it... it seems it might actually be very usefull to some of us :-P anyway, i haven't seen any new catalog here, in Belgium, which is to the south of Holland, in this spot we call 'Western Europe', nope, 'Western Europe' is not a European country...

I don't see anything "space" in there, either, so we both agree that Space and Divers wouldn't be successful today? :-P quite the contrary... space would be successful, we even have specialised forums for the theme and i'm quite certain that many sw fans would be buying space sets as long as they have a similar level of quality and excitement. also, prices of space sets on bl and even on ebay are fairly high, indicating a high demand for space sets; the thing is that lego already produces a space theme: sw, which is, to my knoledge, the most succesfull theme right now..., so yep, space is highly succesfull these days... ;-) hehe... why do i feel there's a discusion 'is sw a sub space theme or not' - coming up real soon? honestly, there's no link what so ever between divers and space, Space is a monument in lego history, divers hardly reaches the footnotes, with all due respect...

Are you sure you are talking about the right member... ***cough... Sne...cough*** :-D No worries, I'm granting you immunity + protection ;-) Formez vos bataillons, Marchons, marchons, qu'un sang IMPUR, abreuve nos sillons !! >:-) *yoda* yeah yeah yeah! all talk but not much content, is it? we should give yoda a new title: 'city mayor's soldier boy' :-P the fact remains that divers didn't last very long and i even think this is the first time we have a topic on the subject. sure, using a table was a nice good old fashioned way to deal with the under water element of the theme, however, i don't think that trick still satisfies the younger kids these days, think about it, they already need back stories presented by Lego to get any interest in playing with lego sets, they need crappy catapults on longboats, otherwise the boat is boring, they need ships that actually float on water or they're unhappy... and you really think they would accept an 'underwater' theme and play with it as we did 15-20 years ago?

Space sets look nice, but something's missing, I don't know what exactly... they even look kinda boring... it's basically a City line with a few astronauts, nothing really exceptional... :-P soon we'll get a new member in the torture chamber for spamming, meaning, writing senseless crappy posts :-P guess who that member is *wacko* ***cough... city mayor... cough... *** :-P :-P

Can someone just confirm some Catalogue queries?
snefroe replied to The Commodore's topic in LEGO Pirates
the dutch catalogs you're refering to are medium sized catalog, not the full line catalog. dutch and belgian catalogs are the same, except for the language) and 1989, 1990 have four pages of pirates... product lines in the UK and the rest of europe are the same, really. Maybe the shop at home catalog for the UK was different... -
i only discovered divers when i came out of my dark age... hm... i don't think i have any of these sets and they're not particularly high on my priority list either. these sets look nice, but something's missing, i don't know what exactly... they even look kinda boring... it's basically a city line with a few divers, nothing really exceptional... i guess lego realised this as well, because not long after this, they'd release the Alpha team with all sorts of new minifigs, parts, style,...

waiting for discounts... that was my strategy as well. it worked last year , but this year, i haven't seen any discount for a good set at all... Same story in France: no discounts. Are you sure they are going to sell this for half later on?
-
i think i have all sets going from life on mars to blacktron 1... :redsmyliehappy: , except for unitron and roboforce classic space and futuron... The monorail is still missing in action, and quite a few classic sets as well... unfortunately, they're amongst the most expensive lego sets these days...
-
yeah... i would have turned it into a small freighter transport ship, instead of a prisoner transport hm... the blacktron guy... I like the theme, but not so fond of the blacktron colours of the figs I agree about turning it into a small freighter transport ship woould be good but then the design of that object must be different...that prison wouldn't look good like a ship true! maybe i should give it a go later in the week... :coolit:

well i guess i first need to figure out how i can prevent the smylies from losing details when they're resized. I'm quite happy with the red classic, but i'll replace the black futuron because the helmet doesn't look all too well. it's probably the contrast between black helmet and the white background, so i'll give him another colour... mg droids? ok.. did i miss a subtheme of space? :blacksmylielaughing: a smylie of the logo? no problem... but that would be really small, let's try it anyway... jipay also uploaded a white and a grey classic logo tag. i can't show them you guys cos i don't know the address of the tags.... but we'll fix that later as well... the idea is to create a space sub as Phes is doing for pirates, so , yep, a background is badly needed a universe with stars, planets is an option; another option would be to use a catalog picture, like the one in the welcome topic... the two reviews and the theme review are linked to space log we'll also need a small space banner with an eb logo if we want to link up with other websites in the future; it would be nice to be linked up with other sites, once we've got more substance...

:-( :'-) :'-( :-X *sing* first this guy teases me for weeks about having a new title for me but refuses to say what it is... 'wait until after subspace is online', he says... and when i asked master Yoda about the title a few days back, he said he'd completely forgotten to change it! seriously people, we may have to consider looking for a new title's giver, the current one seems to have lost his inspiration or focus :-P :-P btw, i'm not scared of a bad title... i once had 'rubber duck', now, what could be worse than that? X-D X-D -
i used bleach to clean printed bricks as well, but i would not recommend that. i didn't wait untill the entire printing was gone, but i could clearly see that the printing was fading...

Master Yoda, when do I finally get my new title? i feel sooooo neglected here... :-P -
i would wait just a few months... Holidays isn't really the best moment to start selling lego. also, I would do the effort to ship international. in my experience of UK bids, prices for UK only bids are much lower than the international trade, still, the Captain is right, this should give you a good price make sure you add a few pictures so it's clear to all that box, plastics,... are there in excellent condition

my trip to LEGOLAND california (with lots of photos)
snefroe replied to Brick Miner's topic in Community
thanks for the photos! *sweet* i'm just wondering if you actually see all that much of the miniland settings , like the the second row of buildings, streets.... Several sections seem very large scaled to me, but maybe that's just an impression -
now that we are working on this subforum, why not help us a bit eh? :redsmyliehappy: if you have any suggestion, smylies, ideas, whatever, about the ungoing construction of the sub, you can post it here... we just uploaded a few smylies, they may be just a little bit too large, though...
