  1. 18d These images are clickable thumbnails View Brickshelf Gallery OR MOCpage Dreamweb writes This ship is probably a light frigate. It belongs to the Dutch navy. The crew consists of about 40 people, including the captain, first and second officers, the surgeon and the chef. The ship is armed with 10 standard cannons and has a total of 13 sails. While playing, one can easily access the lower deck (with cannons), the galley, the mess hall and the commanding officers' quarters. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think it's one best ships I've seen in a long while for two things, really: Love the sails! Love the over all look of the ship. It doesn't look like an apartment block, masts are where they supposed to be, the length of the hull compared to the rest is good and there's "a balance" in the over all design... The castle could have been better and I think he should have added more smaller details like the official models.
  2. like Nathan, i also love to build big MOCs, building big is part of the challenge. it challenges you to find new solutions for new problems you encounter. as a kid i very often started with a modest sized MOc, when that turned out to be a succes, i just started modifying and enlarging the MOCs. However, most mocs didn't survive one day, except for the real good ones, they usually lasted a week or so. the dynamics behind it was that i just wanted to see wether this or that could "work", i wanted to see if there were flaws in designs i'd thought of... that's all. My nephew used to build 1 moc and keep it that way for at least a year. I never understood how you could do that. I think i've changed just a little bit in the way how i approach lego mocs, now that i'm out of the dark age. if i look around in my house, i actualy see a few mocs/sets that are several months old. i guess it's because i see lego in different light compared to my childhood years; Lego is no longer a toy you play with, it's become more like the plastic model kits some adults love to build.
  3. as jay said, it doesn't look very great, but the parts are good... i'm still not sure where TLG is going with this, but that's not my problem...
  4. i've asked myself that question a million times. 1) WWI isn't really well known compared to WWII; you're living close to the WWI area, that's a plus obviously 2) i think it's easier to build WWII equipement than WWI. we don't have these typical WWI wheels in lego, for instance... 3) as soon as i have the time and the parts i'll build myself a decent mark I tank. looking forward to that
  5. EB doesn't have any copyright unless it's on paper that they do. if lego gave EB pics, then the copyright is still in the hands of lego. that doesn't nessessarily mean lego allows you to distribute them further.. they may have asked bs to take steps... if you've distributed illegal pics than they also could have asked BS to prevent further distribution...
  6. would be lovely jon
  7. how 'bout an EB badge or anything?
  8. that house reminds me of the red-blue house when MF's didn't even exist yet, think it's set 355 or something... it's nice that lego is trying to pick up that old style again
  9. if you're asking me, the hover tech is simply not good enough for spaceships or even for general craft., i think it doesn't go very fast, it's not very manoevarable, you're vulnerable because you can't get very high, and i think you're stuck to a limited weight. so i don't think you can do much with it... the thing is, there is technology that's far easier: solar energy for instance. a ship like that can do whatever a hover craft can a normal tank won't have any stability problem compared to hover tanks...
  10. We can allways hope that there will be system pirates in 2008(maybe?) pure guessing: 2004-jack stone pirates 2006-duplo pirates 2008(?)-system pirates(?) aahhh... yoda's famous theory: a theme starts in the duplo category and moves up with that particular customer/generation all to way to MF world.... i think it's wishful thinking, but who knows? many pirate parts are in production for other sets/themes... whatever happened to HP, btw? i mean we're getting some sort of a picture of what to expect this year, and so far no HP at all...
  11. talking about the vikings, these carts look huuuuuge! great sets for army building, now we can only hope they're not too expensive...
  12. I saw some Exo Force sets displayed in a store window the other day. And I must admit that they looked nice. But other than displaying I wouldn't know what "to do" with them. Not even with the parts. the black support parts, the canopies, some slopes, these brown parts of the sentry... i wouldn't think it's very difficult to use them on space ships....
  13. sure it's pretty close, but i think it's a bit high off the ground, that's all... i think the wheels are a bit too large
  14. very nice! i think it's just a little bit out of scale...
  15. Also the instuction book is now ring binded like the Death Star's which made turning the 200+ pages much easier  i bought my ucs 2 years back and the instruction book already was ring binded at that point... still in old grey tho
  16. it looks pretty nice...
  17. thank god... i'm not the only one who likes the duplo sets more than several MF themes... :$ especially that small duplo pirate boat is very nice. we may be able to salvage that for a MF pirate theme... we'll see.... don't like batman, don't need batman... my wallet will be gratefull city doesn't appeal to me either, even tho medics always come in handy, the crane is nice but i think i'll pass... you don't see much of the trains. i'm also interested in the entire diorama of the train set, i would have liked to buy one of those houses, the bridge... they look pretty nice don't like exo very much ... but several parts are interesting. i'll keep on eye on BL thru out the year... technic seems ok. i'm not a die hard fan, but who knows...
  18. talked about that to tt yesterday, it seems some of them l work but not all of them. if you move the pc mouse to one of the red crosses, you'll see what the specific function is suppose to do...
  19. hehe yeah... but no pods...
  20. For example: Lets invent a magic anti gravity device that makes the hovership weight nothing. Why is the hovership limited to 50ft off the ground? if it weighs nothing, can't it just fly off into space if it wanted? Of all the hovership imaginary technology I've seen, they're always full of holes like that. I'd like to have one theme that at least makes some sense, so I'm wondering if any of you have had good ideas. 1) a hovertank doesn't fly. it doesn't use the principles of flight. it doesn't provide lift. so it can't fly away into space. 2) the behaviour of gasses on earth are not the same as on other planets,... i don't see where you're going with this. if i were to build a spacecraft, i'd use an energy source that's always at my disposal: solar energy. 3) second a hovertank, to my knoledge has two propulsion systems: one system to get it off the ground, another system, often a classic rotor, to push it forward... for that, it needs an atmosphere or a liquid, like a rotor of a sub
  21. i agree with Suvie. look for sources on spacecraft, a book on physics would be nice as well, mostly chapters on magnetism, gravity, energy, nuclear reaction, then create some sort of a plausible theory on how your ship would work by identifying and creating the different components needed to pull it off. in any case, the credibilty of the theory depends far more on the backstory (stories about every component, the creation of serial numbers for the components, test results, stuff like that,... ) than on the actual theory... also do what story writers of sw and star trek do: add a few difficult terms to the story, make it sound like you know what you're talking about...
  22. new crane: 64.99
  23. it seems afghan radicals are using the drawings now to incite more riots and hate against the UN troops who are stationed there. Like the mess in Syria it's all about politics. these afghan radicals have been trying to start "a second iraq" in Afghanistan for the last couple of months. i think they're encouraged by the results of that type of war in Iraq, so now they're trying to export that concept to Afghanistan... It's a pitty, because the west was really getting somewhere in afghanistan, even tho the road is still very long... let's just hope the people there will remember the good work of the troops when they hear from these drawings...
  24. ok, so i guess it's time for a last call to every one who is willing to go to windsor. then we'll be able to divide the rooms and figure out how much the price is for every person...
  25. the bird, as a part, is pirate, and castle only has it in just a few colors. in any case, most people wouldn't associate birds with castle as a "castle piece". Sure, the treasure chest, but that's hardly a good example, you don't build anything with that, it's basically a small detail... same with the barrels, you normally don't use them to build mocs, they're more like accesories , besides, a quick review of the sets indicate it's not a real "castle" part, it appeared in pirates more or less at the same time as in caste and just as often. ladders are part of city/town; not sure what wooden doors you're refering to but the clasic wooden doors used in yellow castle came from lego basic... i wouldn't really credit plants to any theme, you can use them for whatever theme you want... for the spears i guess you're refeing to the natives in the pirate theme, sure, but how many people are using those in pirate mocs? Many of the larger pieces of castles havent been used by pirates. Perhaps you should check the inventory of the last several castles... then we'll go to torsos, helmets, swords, flags, horses, sadles,...
