  1. so you want 8 sets, right? don't think that will be a problem. think i saw them today. i'll get confirmation tomorrow and pm you then, ok? Btw, if there's any visitor of the event interested in sw minifigs or sets, i'd advice him/her to tell us about it in this topic.... there are already quite a lot of transactions going on....
  2. remind me not to forget your ep2 starfighter, yoda! do you want the pods as well, or are you going to buy them thru S&H?
  3. welcome! you'll find lots of people from different countries here, and most of us are luckier than you: we do have lots of lego coming in! :-P however, i remember when i used to go on holidays to italy, we always bought lego in germany, because there was none in italy... i wonder why that's the case.... *wacko*
  4. i once had a 1 x 1 plate in very light grey, but i guess that was just a matter of bad production, not so much intentional... think we discussed that before...
  5. hm.... i think most belgians lost all interest in eurosong many years ago when the contest kept on expanding to so many countries, even not european ones, that they just didn't feel related to it any more... People associate it these days with kitch, something you better stay away from... the only thing that people do like, however, is chosing a song for the contest. that's normally limited to flemish artists people know or new talent. it's a bit like "idol" and it seems that type of media contest is popular these days. we already have our candidate, i've heard it several times. it's a good popsong but nothing more, it doesn't stand out or anything. I guess it's a bit like Ketchup's song and probably one of many to use that style. I couldn't care less about Eurosong i'm afraid. the music is very often terrible and i don't think we've seen any decent star coming out of it in decades. In fact, it's more about politics today then about music. especially the Balkans have turned eurosong into a joke... Consequently, i haven't watched eurosong in many years and i'd like to keep it that way.
  6. basically, it's because the essentials of bionicle is just a bunch of robots with lots and lots of playability, far more than with a regular "1 piece" robot. these robots can loose an arm or a leg in a fight, something you can't "do" with classic action figures. they're more flexible, because you can add or remove parts and weapons, you can create your own favourite robot and add him to the story,... and sure, it was hugely hyped by lego with a dvd, special stations in the shop,... and they looked cool in the beginning, now i don't know what to think of it, but it seems it has a fanbase of its own now... there's also a coherence in the bionicle line thru out the years, contrary to the regular lego line. they're just adding more stuff, you never have start all over... so in the end, you can build a very good collection of real bionicle sets...
  7. never heard of red dwarf, but i may build a UCS smurf one day...
  8. i received all my BL orders today... i'll make some time in the weekend to build ... whatever...
  9. i wonder if it fits into a closed circuit tho. after all, you don't really have many different pieces to make ends meet....
  10. i never quite liked that technique, even tho i remember i used it to build walls as well... lack of other parts obviously.... in any case, it was "not done" , whatever other members are telling you... lego didn't use plates in such a way untill the ATAT i think... except for containers that is...
  11. if you want to do a review, go ahead. The brickster has done several reviews and he's not a mod nor admin. the reason why Bloody Jay and Yoda have made lots of reviews is because those lucky ******** always seem to be the first to getting their hands on new lego sets.... You can even do an unprofessional review if you want :-P just make it very clear in your title it's a review
  12. hm... i had to read this twice before i understood what you're asking... *wacko* but i see your point now... i think they used this technique very often in the train sets when they put a round transparant plate into an axlehole of a 2x1 technic brick. (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?S=7727-1) i'm not sure if the actual technic hole has changed tho. it's clearly ribbed these days to allow a better connection... there obviously has got to be some friction to make sure the plate stays where it's supposed to be but the plastic is flexible enough to take care of that...
  13. very nice improvements indeed! i'm undecided about the nose. the round nose gave it a "retro look" and that's gone now, but on the other hand the pointed nose clearly suggests it's an upgraded version... i love ships with this devellopment background, they started as a very small tiny project and grew into a fully capable starfighter... hehe... wonder what the third will look like.... oh yes, Suvie is right. you need landing gear!
  14. I think a Canadian court ruled in favour of the Canadian "Mega blocks"... hm... I think lego should be knocking on WTO's doors or file a complaint at the EU court... However, this type of ruling is always a risc, because it's all about perception. It's one guy who has to decide if two bricks are based on the same concept or not... I can understand that a judge would accept that the "studs" on top of a brick to build things is a concept, free for any company to use. What i would not accept is the fact that all the other companies are using the same scale, making it extremely easy for the uninformed customer to make a mistake and go home with a best lock set instead of a lego set... i wonder. how 'bout the patent for the minifig? that can't be more than 30 years old, so surely that's still in the hands of lego, right?
  15. 1) we do have a buy/sell/trade forum, so if you want to sell anything you can post there 2) Ebay is a place where you can get the highest price for your goods by using a public auction. people bid against each other. i think the deal at EB is all about getting a fair price for your product,... there's a difference... do we need an ebay auction here at EB? I don't think so. if you want to make the most out of your deals, then i'd suggest you sell at ebay and tell people about it in the buy/sell/trade forum... if you just want to get rid of stuff for just a reasonable price, then our forum is quite sufficient...
  16. oh well... i'm not going to start a crusade against this particular section... 8-|
  17. i'm kinda wondering how old sets would look like if they were modified with newer lego technic parts. For instance, do you guys remember the old lego technic helicopter 8844? (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=8844_1&v=z) i wonder how it would look with flexible hoses instead of old lego technic bars and connectors... Sometimes the old sets look too sturdy, too primitive, too many corners instead of curves. i guess the trick is to combine both into modified sets...
  18. i don't understand that commercial law accepts "best-lock" as a different concept to what lego has. best lock is clearly copying the lego system and in fact, is so close to the original danish brick that i would consider it to be a violation of copyrights...
  19. hm... what would be the use of this?
  20. well, usually, if you just click on the forum title, you get all the recent topics. if you do that with "past special", you don't get anything. Sure, people may have posted there in the past, however, they obviously haven't done that in a very very long time... there is one topic in it, as far as i can tell: "My true family returns", which is basically a MOC and could have easily been posted in another section of EB. i'd say that makes it rather unnesseccairy... i'm also not sure if people ever posted there. Perhaps several topics moved to that forum when this EB-structure was created... in any case, no one seems to feel the need to post there any more... that's all...
  21. i find both arguments not convincing at all. 1) the "we're scared our sets may increase intolerance, so we're not doing this set or that set", just doesn't cut it. I think lego overestimates her own influence on their buyers. Parents and media are far more important for that. I played with playmobile when i was a kid. i had Indians and cowboys, cannons, forts, whatever... i sent those figs to war many times... it didn't have any effect whatsoever on my behaviour as a kid, living in an open society and a dominating US-culture... sure, it's clear that lego tries to avoid to have sets where minifigs fight minifigs in a realisic context, but the main theme of WW, to my knoledge, was getting bank robbers,... 2) It seems to me the theory is incorrect. Ninja nor Adventures stayed on for many years after the demise of wild west, they clearly didn't take over WW's market share/sales. Lego's position didn't improve either, to my knoledge. they just lost even more. it seems to me that lego just lost the WW fans to other companies, other toys. Besides, WW probably didn't compete with space or town and wouldn't have been in competition with sw. they are just too different branches... However, perhaps the company decided to cut costs in general by dumping a theme, not expecting that the other themes would just take over. Wild west would have been the obvious choice if sales of all themes were bad, because the other themes sold globally, WW most likely only in the US.
  22. may i suggest to get rid of "The past special month" forum all together? 1) i don't really see the point of the forum. i don't understand what it's supposed to do 2) it's not active at all. the last and only topic was closed by yoda a month ago 3) it only makes the forum more complicated
  23. i'm not really upset because of these sets, but i'm not happy with it either. it clearly indicates that other companies in the construction business think there is a market for those sets, but for some reason, it seems lego doesn't agree with this... As a wild west fan, tho not a hardcore fan, i feel frustrated, especially when you get all sorts of lego sets/themes that do not interest me at all... You can't help but wonder what lego could have produced of wild west sets over the years if they had continued the line. We also never had any decent explenation for dropping the wild west line... In any case, others are producing sets lego could easily build themself... yes, it is frustrating...
  24. we get so many ships these days i wasn't sure. so i asked yoda. he didn't remember it tho, so i posted ...
