meyerc13, it always amazes me that there is no back on that toilet block. I guess with only a few men in town, the girls aren't too worried about being seen. And yes, I did cut a road plate in half. I needed a half plate for my Modular City layout, and this layout joined onto another Friends layout that another member of our group did. I wish LEGO would produce 32x16 road plates, they come in very handy at times, especially if you want to line up driveways or use a 48x48 building. LT, with Friends continually releasing shop sets, my shopping precinct will continue to grow. Though with the new Ranch set, I will also have to increase the horse area, so maybe I will move the Vet over to that section. Either way, I'm going to require more space the next time my layout is on display. And I haven't even started on Friends MOCs yet! (though may just keep the whole display as sets and leave my MOCcing to my city stuff)

I've posted some photos of my modified modulars in this thread, but I've finally taken some decent photos of the whole city put together. This layout is part of the Brick Events train layout and taken at the Gold Coast Brick Event last weekend.

Lights? I hadn't really thought if that. I'm not real good with that sort of stuff, but luckily I know people who are. If/when I ever get around to lighting up my City display, I might do this at the same time.

Yes LT, I do always admire your creations, and I have seen your expansion, but the main reason for expanding mine was to use up a bit more space on that side of my shopping complex and also because I had to rearrange the insides to get a back wall on. Plus, with my standard 4wide walkway, there was hardly any room left on the ground floor as the rotating door had to be moved back two studs and I wanted to keep the original items inside.

My old skate park needed a revamp and after recently acquiring one of the raised baseplates I thought of a really good use for it. My large and small halfpipes have been built for a while, though not sure if they've ever been posted on here by themselves. I've redone the ground though, it used to be all black. With the park not yet open to the public, and those Turtles not willing to come out during the day time, The Shredder takes the opportunity to bust a few sick moves. I've also modded the new Town Corner into my usual 16 deep format, and also made the Bike Shop an extra 6 wide. These shops are now fully enclosed as well, rather than opened backed. This was a bit of a challenge for the bike shop, so things have to moved around a bit inside. an overview of my shopping complex, skate park is on the left. I've also retiled my petrol station, the dark grey looks better than the black I think. and now the whole thing

Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
Xyver replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Ok, I know this isn't an Aussie Sales post, but this is a question for fellow Aussies and didn't want to start a new thread. I ordered the Delorean and Town Square on September 9 and it sat 'In Progress' until the 20th. I contacted Lego Support (via email) on the 18th and finally received a reply shortly after my notification of shipping on the 20th. Their excuse was that DHL was having problems sending to Australia (ok, whatever) and that my parcel had now been sent Express. No tracking number was provided, and although I contacted Lego again they have yet to provide me with a tracking number. It is now the 27th (6 business days later) and my order has not yet arrived and I have no way of finding out where it is. Has anyone else purchased from S@H in the last few weeks and their order has been delayed substantially? Two of my last three orders have sat at DHL warehouses for a week before I have finally contacted them to find they had problems with my delivery address. Although I have now changed that to a number instead of 'Cnr of' I'm still convinced of it getting to me. And what is the point of Express delivery in 6 days when I've had normal delivery in the same time frame? especially when they don't deliver in 6 days anyway. Now I don't know whether to order the Winter Village market or not in October, what's the point if it never arrives. Although since these exclusive sets aren't available locally, I don't really have much choice. -
I ordered the Delorean on the 9th September, it was showing as Available Now at the time, though now it is saying expected ship date as 11th October. If I miss out on it this batch, fair enough, though still annoyed. But my question is, how long does it usually take for the other items I ordered to be sent? I also ordered the new Town Square so as to put me into the free delivery and qualify for the free VW Camper. It does say that items in stock will ship straight away, with out of stock items put on back order, so why hasn't my order been sent already, or doesn't this show up in order status until everything is shipped? I've had problems with a few recent orders not finding my address due to incorrect details supplied by TLG and/or incompetent couriers who can't use their brains, but without a tracking number, there is nothing I can do. I have contacted Customer Service, but still waiting to hear back, though it has been over 24 hours, so even with time zone differences (there is no customer service for Australia) I should have heard something by now. What has been other people's experiences with items going out of stock and other items still arriving? and which customer service centre would be best for me to contact (I selected the UK one) to move them along.

Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Futureâ„¢ Time Machine
Xyver replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Licensed
I ordered my set on 9th September when I noticed they were back in stock on S@H. It's now the 18th, my order is still in progress and the Delorean is now showing as not in stock again until the 15th October. Not real happy as I wanted it for a display my group is doing this weekend and delivery takes 3-4 days to arrive is Aus. -
Drilling and gluing Lego plates - Key Holder
Xyver replied to RednWhite's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You could always try screwing some technic plates to the piece of wood, as they have the holes pre-cut, then attaching the other plate to them. So this means no drilling (and thereby no comprising plate integrity), no gluing, and you can rebuild it whenever you feel like a change. We've screwed some 2x4 technic plates onto our wooden table, then attached a baseplate to the back of them vertically to serve as a sky/background on our train layout and it holds up fine, even with extra plates on the baseplate to simulate clouds. So clutch power should not be a problem provided the screw sits flush enough with the plate. -
And from one of my favourite movies, I present the Eagle 5 from Spaceballs. May the Schwartz be with you. "Going to Hyperactive"

My Brickset count puts me at 77,392, with parts only orders I'd say easily 85,000. Wow, no wonder I can never find the part I want.

I regret not buying the Public Transport Station (8404) and 4WD with Horse Trailer (7635) when they were available retail. I was just coming out of my dark ages and never got around to buying them. Now I have to pay inflated BrickLink prices, plus international shipping as they aren't available here any more

I've told friends/workmates (and a new girlfriend - wasn't sure how that was going to go) about my hobby of building with Lego. Sure, they all think it's a bit childish at first, but once they see what can be done with it, the attitude changes pretty quickly. So, if your friends/family think Lego is a child's toy and that you're too old for it, show them what you have done with it, they'll come around. I've done a few expos now and there would be a large percentage of parents who dragged the kids along because they want to see the Lego, not the kids.

I've been on this forum for a few years and I don't think I've seen one either. I have also done a Google search, but only found a couple. I think the size requirements to get the scale correct puts a lot of people off attempting it. It's not just the bricks required for the terminal building either, a decent runway is probably out of reach for many, you couldn't use roadplates (too narrow) so you'd have to tile the whole thing. And that's not even considering space requirements for the actual building project. I have considered building an airport, and have made what I thought was a pretty decent runway, yet it was too short and not wide enough for the scale of the airplanes, being only around 140*30 studs. Now that my part collection is bigger, I'm considering building another one, getting the scale for the runway more accurate. And I have some ideas for the terminal building as well, but that's a lot of bricks, most of which are currently in use for other projects which I don't intend on pulling apart. Still, once my modular city centre is complete (8x5 baseplates) and I've finished building my Heartlake City, that is on the drawing boards as my next project.

Spotted the Caro Heliplane today at KMart Capalaba (Qld), pretty sure the race truck was there too. Picked up the last The Bat vs Bane and Doc Ock Ambush sets on clearance, finally have me a Batman and Spider-man! -
Love the roller door LT, that is a piece of brilliance.

The Friends Dolphin Cruiser is now on Shop@Home for 99.99, reasonable compared to the US69.99. Any word on who/when/how much (or even if) it is coming to an Aus retailer? If not, than thanks for free shipping. -
I love the road plates, and I think it would be great if they came out either singularly, or double packs (I only needs straights, maybe a couple of corners, but no more T or junctions) I don't want a redesign though, some more variety maybe, but keeping to the 8 wide lanes on dark bley. But seeing the way the new City sets are being built on the 16x16 plates, and with tiled footpaths in the new 60026 Town Square, I personally think TLG are doing away with baseplates and specifically road plates, all together. Add to that the fact the straights weren't available in this years LUGBulk and my fears may be coming true. From what I've heard, they aren't a very good seller, and even worse of a money maker. I may be time to invest in a lot of bley plates and start doing raised curbs to turn all my cross and Ts into straights.

That spiral staircase/window combination at the front is just an amazing design feature and a wonderful use of space. Great work

Put me down for Capalaba, Queensland, Australia. I actually live in a neighbouring suburb, but that's where my friend's LEGO shop is, so I'd rather spend my time in there.

I started building this set last night from spare pieces. I've finished most of the truck, just have to do the top of the cab and then work out how to do the roof of the body as I don't have those parts spare. It is a good build, the way they attach the front of the truck is completely different to the normal truck builds. Colour wise, I have a red cab as per original, but have used the yellow panels and door from 3221 Lego City Truck. I will post photos once I've finished. This is going to look good in my city as it has a different shape to add some variety to my other sets and MOCs.

Sorry about the confusion people, but that is the reason I put the last sentence in. We'd be more than happy to bring our show to the UK, if you'll donate for the air fares. If you do fly over to Australia for our show, produce your plane tickets and we'll grant you free entry! How's that for incentive.

Our main train display will be at the 2013 Brisbane Model Train Show this weekend, 4-5th May. We are Stand 49, Hometurn Room Hall 4 on Level 2, Doomben Racecourse, Brisbane. Drop in and say hello if you can and get a sneak peek of what will be on offer at our Expo in June.

That's a great train, but I really love your rolling stock.
