  1. These are already available. The 3rd gen servo switched gearbox is part of the Mustang GT500 for which instructions are available. I am the proud owner of two of these gearboxes in the form of the Land Rover Defender 110 and the Mustang GT500. The way these two generations function is quite different, so there is much to learn from each. I would be interested to see more about the gearbox in the Veyron, since it also looks quite different than the other two.
  2. I'm not sure which part you are talking about, but if you check the parts list on ReBrickable it lists the part numbers for everything. The railings are made from flex system tubing.
  3. Flickr works fine, but you can also use an image hosting service like Bricksafe. Remember that you have to link an image file (such as *.jpg) not a web page.
  4. A continuous axle (beam) is stronger in bending than two axle pins (split beam).
  5. The original version of the 10030 had one giant instruction booklet with this same kind of "perfect binding". It is true that it does not stay open perfectly on the table. Later versions of the set as well as the Death Star II came with spiral bound manuals. These were awesome. Ideal ability to stay open flat. I'm sure they cost more though.....
  6. You always come up with great models of subjects I've never seen before. Thanks for keeping my life interesting!
  7. I used V2 for the drive motors and V1 for everything else.
  8. True, but the starting state of the cube is not predetermined. It is different every time. Yes, the first step is always "scan" and I don't believe this counts as part of the time. However, I'm sure it only takes a millisecond for the phone to calculate the solving path.
  9. The cubes they use for competitions and records are lubricated. ??? That's exactly what they do. The cube used for any record attempt or competition is random. I'm not sure what the rules are, but I would imagine it has to be at least so many steps from "solved".
  10. I don't think this is entirely accurate. LEGO instructions are created in 3D CAD software in the first place which is all vector. Rasterizing them is what reduces the quality and also makes the files big. Some of the older models have vector based PDF files for the electronic instructions. They look perfect and the file size is small. There's no technical reason they couldn't still be doing this, so this leads me to believe file size is not the reason for poor quality PDFs. In my opinion the quality is kept intentionally low to prevent copyright infringement. If they gave us high quality vector files it would be trivially easy for anyone to start printing out their own copies and selling them, or for Chinese clone makers to copy not only the model design but also the entire set of instructions.
  11. This shows you how small the global Technic aftermarket really is. It only takes one popular model like this to clear out the worldwide supply of uncommon parts. I didn't use the word "rare" because there are parts much harder to get than this.
  12. Just buy a used one on Bricklink and have it shipped from Germany. Even with the International shipping, it will easily be cheaper than buying it in the USA. Get it without a box and the shipping is inexpensive. There's no reason to get it new in the box if you are going to build it anyway.
  13. I don't see any reason you couldn't do it with rack gears and a control center just like the 8094 plotter.
  14. Sounds about right. Probably a commissioned project (only way the parts could be funded) by the manufacturer.
  15. The 16L red flex axles are getting hard to find.
  16. This is not a Technic part and there is no special knowledge of dyeing in the Technic forum. I think you will get better answers posting this is the General forum. Moving.....
  17. The problem is that you would never load a big excavator like that on a flatbed trailer, you would use a drop deck lowboy. It's hard to think of the right load for this trailer. A big load of railroad wheels would look good!
  18. I've been working with the models of the truck and trailer to do some renders. The trailer obviously needs something on it, so why not combine these models with the skid loader of another great builder?! Here is the result.
  19. I see the increased variability as a benefit rather than a detriment. However, if you want to reproduce results you'll need to record more than just the gearbox settings. You also have to record the relative initial phase of the output arms. If you start the arms in the same relative position, you'll get the same result repeatedly.
  20. New users can't attach files. Your best bet is to use a hosting service like Bricksafe and then just post a link to wherever you hosted the file.
  21. The train regulator works well, but it is not continuously variable. It has 6 forward and 6 reverse speeds.
