    Cool! Glad to see the model there. The picture you added was actually of a different model, his earlier Ferrari 458 Italia, so I changed the picture to the Spider version. We made some design changes to the model during the instruction process, so I may update the picture yet again when we get photos of the final version.

    It seems it was only a few years ago that a new supercar was released (8070) and everyone was complaining that it was red. "Why is it red?" everyone said. "The market is flooded with red parts and MOCs! We want something else!" Oh how foolish we were. Today, red 5x11 panels, red #3 connectors, and red flex axles are becoming impossible to find and everyone is screaming for more red. Since I just happened to finish building Brunojj's Ferrari 458 Spider this weekend, I thought it was a good time to get out some of my red cars and do a bit of a photo retrospective. So here you go: Six magnificent red cars from six magnificent builders More and bigger pictures at my Bricksafe. I have intentionally not identified the other cars here so you, the readers, can have some fun! All of these were built from amateur instructions. Thank you AFOL community!

    The instructions were complete enough that I was able to do a test build this weekend. A few photos are below and more at my Bricksafe. Everything went well. Now I just need to all the wires to the instructions. With 6 sets of lights and 4 motors, it will take a while!

    The best place to buy parts is Bricklink. I'm also moving your topic out of the Technic forum to a place where you'll get more answers.

    I wouldn't get too hung up on this. If you enter an excellent MOC with Technic functions no one is going to complain about what percentage of the parts are Technic. Just don't enter your 4-wide System car or something that obviously has nothing to do with Technic.

    It uses the same tires as 42030, but I think it is much smaller. The L580 is similar in size to 8265.

    If someone wants to mail me a copy of the 42030 Volvo, I'll gladly photograph it next to every other flagship.

    I've been coveting this model ever I saw Drakmin developing it in the original thread. I love Technic and I love Star Wars UCS, but nary the twain shall meet. There were those few Technic Star Wars models 10 years ago, but only the Destroyer Droid was really good. This snow speeder is really cool though so I was pleased to be part of creating the instructions. I'll be interested to see how much interest there is in a Technic Star Wars model since the official sets didn't sell very well.

    I don't think you can reasonably compare the price/part for these two models because 42030 is riddled with Power Functions and 8265 has none. So neglecting cost, I think your decision comes down to whether you prefer motorization or mechanical complexity.

    Those adapters exist, but from what I have heard no one has ever successfully got one to work with Spybotics. Hopefully someone will reply who made it work. I used an old Win98 laptop for mine and it still had a serial port.

    The different colors are all the same unit, they just came with different sets. However, the software is now VERY old and these units cannot be used with any other software. Unless you have a computer running Windows 98 or older, you will probably not be able to get them to work. It uses a Serial interface.

    Thanks for changing the model to use more common parts. Of course, as soon as you are finished redesigning the model to use fewer red #3 connectors, LEGO will release a new set which uses them and make them common again.

    I think he wanted to know the specific attach points of the steering arms which would allow you to calculate caster, camber, and toe.

    They have unsprung suspension, in general. That is, they have a system to keep all the wheels on uneven ground and distribute load more or less evenly.

    This is so cool that I don't even know what to say. Very impressive work.

    I have built it but the instructions are very good so I doubt you will need much in the way of advice. I have lots more photos of it posted here.

    They existed in translucent white in the old Samsonite sets prior to Expert Builder, but they were not exactly the same. Peeron doesn't distinguish. The modern black version dates from 1977.

    The modern Technic axles were introduced in 1977 but the 4L was not available until later. If there was an axle in the 1960's, it was a different part.
