Eurobricks Event 2014 - Update
mechamike replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Oh no!! It's the "make sure You still can look out through the car windows if Copmike goes into a shopping spree" plan.. For the Aussie I have something completely different planned.. MOOHAHAHAHAHA! (note to self - learn to control my diabolic laughter) Will be going with the ferry from Gothenburg at 8:00 ( the 9:15 ferry is cancelled that day(the nice lady from the ferry company informed me last week) I suppose there will be two cars going from Sweden if I counted the participants correctly. -

LEGO parts made of Chinese plastic?
mechamike replied to Henchmen4Hire's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks obsidianheart for the laugh of the day for me! Our friend ultimatebrickfan5 sure don't seem to be a brickfan or ultimate for that matter. I highly doubt that there is any toxic.. Just because something smell not so pleasant for some dont make it toxic, TLG have VERY high standards. Smelly or not.. is not an issue, but the somewhat poorer quality in the past with china produced minfigs have been more troublesome.. Can we have someone else that's not hired by Sluban/Megablocks to smear Lego confirm if the figs are actually China made? Also the title of this thread seems pretty offensive and racist to me, I highly doubt that ultimatebrickfan5 has any clue of the personal hygiene of the Chinese workers. -
I second mordatre's opinion about the scout helmet, In my eyes it just looks very "wrong" .Im a OT builder so this will go in the build bin and the miifig parts will be used in non Sw Mocs anyhow.. Its a fairly decent parts pack

[Indiana Jones] How to survive an atomic bomb ...
mechamike replied to Dark Imperator's topic in LEGO Licensed
Nice build, Nice touch with that orange juice box tipping.. good caption of the ridiculous scene.. -
Thanks for the review, I picked this up earlier in the week, the minfigs are really great, and the blasters are useful in (but not as SW blasters). The parts are pretty useful and in useful colours as well, so it was a nice buy.

I would have added cheese slopes on the forward fuselage OR a wide cheese were the cockpit ends instead of the jumper plate. Three holes is a crowd in this tiny build. I would also use some appropriate sticker to make it a bit more interesting to the eye. Some sticker that puts the ship in a context.. ist it civilian? military? Alien? a racer ?

You create,it perhaps you document it, you display it in public / for friends / online and share it. In the process of building it You learnt something to make a even better MOC next time or You get feedback from others sharing it. You save your MOC for years/months/weeks/days/hours and then you recycle the parts for something even better.. Nothing man creates lasts forever , one day even the mighty pyramids will be sand in a desert, for me a MOC is a journey were the trip (building it) is the fun part and the end station (when its finished) is just a quick moment of contemplation until the next trip.

Discussion Should LEGO make a Military Theme?
mechamike replied to KisKatona's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't see this happening ever, that Lego would produce a modern military line (and Im not sad about it either) We as AFOLs have the colours and parts to produce what we want. There is already to much violence in this world as it is with plenty of war inspired toys. Lego should not fall to the low levels of clone china brands an produce pure military set's. -
Its a good step Lego Cuusoo hast taken, these rules should have been applied from the very beginning. If You have any insight into production and marketing, you could already from the beginning figure out that certain projects are doomed from the start. I would love monorail to be produced again.. but ssince the mold for monorail is lost, this would require a new mold (and I guess that would be considered as a new part). I lost count of the times different Lego reps has told us monorail isn't going to happen again, so I would not get my hopes up.

Nice build and nice redneck feeling. Dark red and white mix nice ! Most camper tops I have seen on pick-up trucks however don't have a windscreen to the front or a much smaller one. If the 6567c03 part was available in white it had been nice , but IMH i think all white windcreen would looker better than the one's used now. I also think that the big window on the side would benefit from being raised one plate so that it would be framed in white on all sides.

Nice little cart, Not sure I would buy his Asian spice, but if he has any Vodka , I'll buy, Anyhow; I dont know why, but I was waiting for a last picture were he rides his wagon over a bump in the road that makes his oil lamp fall down and break on his head just to set him and the wagon on fire.. Perhaps followed by a pic were the were the wagons goees over a cliff and he goes AAAAAAAAAaaaaaahhhh.. And someone looking up at him goes OOOOooohhh..

Nice.. Tips for improvment: I would suggest, getting Your hands on some 1x1 Trans-green tile to fill out as murky water between the patches of land.., I would use ,brown or even black under the tiles to add some effect of depth at some areas. I also would consider getting an nice frame for the build, perhaps black slopes with at tiled top to the vig. Then beyond the build.. I would not tilt the camera so much when taking photos, maybe even use som cloth as backdrop. (crushed velvet in black is nice) kindly mechamike

LDD FoV = 30 = binoculars + duct tape.
mechamike replied to Alcom1's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I second Your proposal, as a frequent CAD user at work, current LDD FOV bugs me alot and I really hope that the LDD team take's notice of this proposal. Perhaps our good friends Superkalle has some input on this?! -
Packing large MOCs for transport, how to do it?
mechamike replied to jonwil's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Here is how i do it 1. Find a box that it will fit in. 2. If the 48x48 is a bit flimsy (depending on how you built , put something sturdy under the baseplate at the bottom of the box, (a big book or a board) 3. Put a plastic bag that will fit your moc in the box (if You use a card board any loose pieces will end up in the bag and not find its way out some hole in the box and pacing material will not stick unto your moc) 4. Put the moc in the bag, and seal it.. Fill up the box around the moc with some soft packing material, Whatever You have at home (You can use old newspapers, take a page and roll into a ball, (and do that until the mocs sits steady in the box) (oh.. and make sure that there isn't to much room above the moc (use packing material) , so if the car hits a bump it should now be able to move upwards .. jumping MOC's are shattered MOC's.. -
The Landrover is really nice, and would love to see it released, if not only for Lego to once again produce the 1x3 wedge in tan, that I very often end up needing in my mocs, but cant afford. A dark green version Landrover would perhaps be more iconic?

Im a OT guy so i really don't have a clue, but what about: Rappelling down ropes ? Think the AT-AT uses them and it seems to work well from a Black Hawk or perhaps zip lines that could be fired and attached to the ground a bit away? Nice progress btw! looking good!

Paid Membership with perks? Any interest?
mechamike replied to Siegfried's topic in Forum Information and Help
I know Im not really active poster here, most of my time on-line I spend posting on another site,(but hopefully that is going to change soon). I have lurked EB since the start and some of the nicest people I know hang here, and I logged a lot of hours reading posts on EB. There are some aspects of EB I really like and some Im not so fond of. Perhaps Im going out on a limb here but Im willing to take the risk, If EB in the process of going pay site, also made they journey back to being a pure AFOL, (that's ADULT fan of lego) site I would actually consider payment. As now there is frankly in MHO to many 13 years old kids who slaps together two battle packs on a baseplate and shouts "MOC", and then spams the forums with countless mindless posts just to climb in ranks. This makes it hard fo find the good posts in all the background clutter of "KEEEWL", " WOOWZA", "Look at my 20 Clonetroopers army!!" The quality posts and threads, those worth my time are hard to find. Perhaps it's not so surprising that EB attract kids, all the tags and flags and ranks are a goldmine for a young insecure kid going adult, what better way is it to show your awesomeness then that to display all your medals. (well for the record even some adults seems to crave the tags beyond what I feel reasonable) I know there are some really talented Young builders as well, that also are mature and in writing and behaviour, so that on the page they easy passes for an adult (and sometimes behave even better that some adults I seen here). Those I salute and nod my head in respect for! Also the mods are doing their best to stop spamming, but as an AFOL and a father I prefer to hang with other adults at my leisure time. Kids are all right but I have my own and would prefer my adult time to be with other adults. The site rule says the is for 18 Years old and over, but I have seen countless profiles with 13-14-15 YO and so on, and even kids that are sent to the "taking a break" are welcomed back. Perhaps EB is no longer an AFOL site, perhaps I have missed the transition from AFOL site to something else, perhaps EB its more of a TFOL or just FOL site nowadays? But for me that can not enjoy the Fellow pub and its conversations a bit away from the children's room I would not mind If EB made a pure AFOL area , even if it would cost me some money to enter it. kindly mechamike -
Very nice! My favourite thing, the floored wall inside the weapon stores and the brick built red table cloth. Barqa seems like a nice place
