  1. Great to see so many builders continuing to share their designs! Here's a guide for a nice fireplace:
  2. So good to see you return! I posted another freebuild myself:
  3. As has become customary, I built a series of vignettes as prizes for the the collaborative category. And of course I had to set them in the guilds! Here is the first, I will try to get the others posted before long. The Adventurers Guild in Alnya has a long standing tradition of a grand feast during the summer solstice. It’s not just a celebration, as their extremely competitive mindsets saw it quickly develop into a challenge. The master chefs, some of whom are capable adventurers in their own right, select teams of the most skilled and daring heroes to gather the rare ingredients needed to create dishes of exquisite flavor. The team responsible for creating the most delectable dish is rewarded with a generous bounty of gold and also first choice of quests until the next annual feast. Rogdul, a vaunted goblin burglar, was tasked with obtaining some of the rare mushrooms only found in the deep caverns of Nocturnus. Equipped with a dagger and good supply of torches, Rogdal ventured for hours through dark, claustrophobic tunnels before coming across a small stream that led him to discover a cavern and most importantly the coveted mushrooms! Few more images on Brickbuilt. Always feels like coming home to post in the guilds
  4. @LittleJohn and I worked together to create another Everdell scene, this time based off of the Chapel card. We built it in about a week working on it sporadically. John primarily handled rockwork, animals and some small details, while I built the chapel and helped finish the landscaping. John also handled the photography and photo editing. It’s always a treat building together, and I’m super pleased with how this came out! Our source of inspiration: Plain background overview Details and Characters: There are a few more shots on our website, Brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, your feedback is always welcome
  5. Need some extra incentive to get back to building for the Guilds? Then maybe the Summer Joust is just what you've been waiting for! Quite a variety of categories this year See all the details on flickr.
  6. The 2022 Summer Joust starts today! The Joust is a large scale castle building contest that has been an annual event since 2016. Builders of all skill levels are welcome! This year it's back with loads of new categories, a huge prize pool, and unlimited castle building fun! See the full details in the dedicated flickr group:
  7. @The Stad Yikes! That's frustrating. Don't recall any arms breaking on the viking torsos I had swapped them on, but dark red especially from that era is certainly prone to cracking. New little freebuild up:
  8. A vignette with just 99 elements for the RogueOlympics. Always good to build in Mitgardia again, and this time I even gave Glorfindel an outfit change Sir Glorfindel enjoying the frigid beauty of Mitgardian winter. Thanks for looking, feedback appreciated
  9. Welcome Flaming Bricks! After you've created your character and introduced them, these ongoing Mitgardian Challenges are a great place to start: Community Build: Landscapes of Mitgardia, Dwellings of Mitgardia Mitgardia free-build-challenge: Age of Mitgardia
  10. @Celebrian Telrunya Welcome to the North! Glad to have Celebrian in Mitgardia, and just let us know if you have any questions
  11. Thanks a lot! Wasn't sure we would have time for an interior, but I made sure to design the house with space for one. And fortunately it didn't take long to flesh out Thank you Thanks Geneva! Full credit to John for those gorgeous trees, would never have attempted some like this myself Many thanks! The well went through a few iterations before coming to this setup. Thank you! I was pretty happy with the fireplace and bed designs, especially considering how little space they occupy. Thanks! Thank you Louis We started the scene with a little bell tower construction instead of the well, and that had some purple banners which led me to use purple for the cottage door. Then when the bell tower was removed the door color stayed Thanks Aurore! Dark brown is one of my favorite colors, and it's great to see the parts library expanding over the past few years. Thank you We almost always use dark brown and lime green for Alnya settings, as we really like that combination and the fantasy air it helps establish. Thanks! Glad to hear you appreciated the base, I went to the trouble of rotating the two layers off of each other using technic bricks though that didn't end up being very noticeable Here is a link to John's original Alnya post describing the land and peoples in more detail.
  12. Apologies for the very slow reply, don't know how I missed your question. I can't recall much being developed regarding the lore of Mitgardian religions yet. Would love to see you bring the Isles of Solitude to life in some builds! New freebuild that I built with @LittleJohn over the holidays:
  13. One collab wasn’t enough, and we just managed to squeeze in a second build before Isaac returned to Denmark. It’s yet another scene set in our Alnya, and we returned to our roots by making it viewable from all sides, and even including a full interior! It fits on a 48×48 baseplate and is an entry in the Civilian Building category of the CCC. Extra credit to John for handling the last details and photography! Allanar Forest is home to one of the largest Dwelf communities in Alnya. Its beautiful trees, plentiful wildlife, and rich soil are a perfect match for the Dwelfs favorite pastimes of raising livestock, nurturing gardens, finding new uses for herbs, crafting beautiful cottages, and of course eating. See more images on Brickbuilt. Always feels good to post something new for the Guilds
  14. Huge congratulations to the winners, and well done everyone with their entries! Great to see so much life in the Guilds again
  15. Hard to pass up a Guilds CMF challenge Warrior Wraith– Nocturnus In life, a champion of the Black Spire. Now fights mostly out of habit, as he finds being undead rather boring. Has to do something to pass the time! Elderly Lady - Mitgardia Lady Tora moved to northern Kaliphlin after the death of her husband and sons in the Algus war. Of late, she often takes tea with Damir. Elderly Gentleman – Kaliphlin Damir is a kind old man, wealthy from his lifelong career in the spice trade. Never married, but a proposal to Lady Tora looks near at hand. Master Swordsman – Varlyrio He has lived through too many duels and battles to count but isn’t yet old enough to have lost his speed or strength. His reputation has led many of the noble families to seek his services as a mentor and bodyguard for young family members. Picks and chooses his clients carefully. Forest Ranger - Avalonia Avalonia’s forests are filled with skilled archers and woodsmen. Loren certainly fits that description and is an excellent tracker too. Frequently offers her services as a guide to foreigners who need to travel through the dense woods of Avalonia. Gnome Tinker - Kaliphlin “High quality pots and pans! Add some fresh sparkle to your kitchen!” Folmar is a traveling gnomish tinker. He specializes in metal cooking gear and if unable to sell you something new is also glad to mend your old cookware. Mushroom Forager - Nocturnus A very solitary individual. Little is known about him besides his passion for mushrooms. The swamps of Nocturnus offer many unusual varieties though what purpose he then employs their peculiar qualities towards is unknown… Veteran Knight – Avalonia His battered armor has seen action across the guilds. Doesn’t make friends lightly, though is fiercely loyal if you do earn his trust. Most of his original companions now lie in the grave. Dwelf Gardener - Alnya Dwelves tend to be good gardeners, but Alia is exceptionally talented. Despite her own expansive gardens, she cheerfully takes time to teach others her cultivation tricks. Most people don’t know of her pet chameleon, as Chervil is rather shy and tends to hide when others are nearby. Courier – Varlyrio A very dangerous career for youngsters on the streets in Varlyrio. Those with quick minds and daring personalities can make a comfortable living through their efforts. Failure, and even success, can well prove fatal for those not able to handle the layered intrigues of the island. Dwarven Spearman – Mitgardia Solid and steadfast. Dwarves brave enough to select a weapon besides the axe have more than enough skill to back up their decision against naysayers. Fairy – Avalonia The Enchanted Forest is home to many unique races. Those with no ill intentions have little to fear from these small folk, but they’re more than capable of defending themselves from outside threats. Confectioner – Varylrio Creator of scrumptious baked goods. Signe ‘s shop is always packed, and many take detours just to pass by and enjoy the fragrant scents drifting from her ovens into the street. Mercenary Commander – Kaliphlin Possessor of a sharp blade, and even sharper tongue. Rose through the ranks of the Phoenix mercenary organization to become one of their commanders. Chicken Farmer – Mitgardia The harsh weather of Mitgardia makes raising livestock an extra challenge. Annette takes excellent care of all her hens and makes a tidy profit on their large eggs. Goblin Fisherman - Nocturnus A cheerful individual despite the inherent dangers of fishing in Nocturnus – you never know what sort of creature you might catch! Always accompanied by his crab friend, Klar. The pair of them are experts at scampering to safety or quickly cutting the line when especially perilous prey is hooked. More photos can be found on Brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, feedback always appreciated
  16. @Louis of Nutwood Beautiful work!
  17. I'm guessing most of you have seen this already, but the Summer Joust started last week: 6 different categories, and it shouldn't be hard tie your entries in with GoH challenges See all the rules and details on flickr.
  18. Welcome @Piobre! As Grover mentioned, you should create a sig fig (which is your character in the guilds), and share a photo once you've done so. Then there are plenty of challenges to participate in if you want! Primarily the Anniversary Count Down Challenge, and of course you're also welcome to make free builds for projects like Landscapes of Mitgardia, Dwellings of Mitgardia, or Age of Mitgardia. Just ask whatever questions you have and someone will get back to you before too long
  19. So good to see you back in the guilds! And Gideon too! This challenge is going to be amazing Here's my contribution for the Tower category:
  20. If you didn't see it yet, part 2 of the interview with @Garmadon and @Louis of Nutwood has been posted and is just as good a read as the first installment. Finished a watchtower for CDC:
  21. Felt great to do building for a GoH challenge again! The tower style is largely based on my previous Harburg Castle, which is nearly 5 years old now. Crazy. And the roof is the same basic design, and you can find our tutorial for that here. Lord Karsten always makes it a point to personally inspect the various watchtowers situated around Harburg’s borders several times a year, and often Eryl or Elise accompanies him. Recently Historica has enjoyed a time of relative peace, but Karsten won’t let his men fall into carelessness. Few more pictures on Brickbuilt.

  23. @Ecclesiastes Thanks for the link Ecc, was a great read! @Louis of Nutwood Very fun to learn more about your journey in the AFOL community so far Got around to posting a new freebuild:
  24. It felt great to build something winter and castle again! This was an entry for the miscellaneous category of the Colossal Castle Contest. Special thanks to John for the main photo edit. Small lodges are common in Alnya to offer shelter and supplies for the various hunters and adventurers often far from towns or villages. On this snowy morning, Rydel sets out with his two dogs for a fine day of hunting. There are several game trails nearby that he feels confident will result in a good harvest. See more pictures on Brickbuilt.
