  1. Not yet, but I saw a few L motors on offer at a local BL store. It would free up my train motor for another build. So it's worth considering it.
  2. Thanks. I understand your point about the doors. I also build it with the doors on the outside plain and was doubting what would work better. Its now on a jumper plate for the step back. I also considered keeping the bars at the normal outside of the locomotive and only recess the door. Someone else also mentioned putting the train motor on its side inside. Its something I will thinker with in the near future. But I will build the boogie first to see how two will fit. I do doubt if just putting a technic motor in (horizontal or vertical) is not easier then.
  3. Thanks appreciated. I'm happy how this one ended up.
  4. Thanks @idlemarvel I get the idea. Thanks @JopieK, also for the featured. The 7750 or a steamer in general is on my future wishlist. But before I try getting all those wheels correct I decided to build some Electric or diesel locomotives first. But the 7750 is pretty cool, give it a go.
  5. Thank you both for your input this is helping me out. @idlemarvel i am completely interested in seeing the train motor on its side. I've never considered that. So yeah if you could share please do. @Selander I do feel you are right. I will start with this. I bought instructions for a 7wide loc with M motor and I see the issues with getting the drive train proper. I'll enjoy the build for a 6wide locomotive first and get it running and then I can tackle more challenges later on. Let me get a good body first. Indeed I do not want a too big locomotive or else the proportion will be off.
  6. Thanks! Yeah I figured as much @idlemarvel. Means I need to buy a motor, I have train motor spare on a city set that is not running anyways. I had a look on those lego L motors and a few off brand options (thats ok to mention here right?), those red type PF style motors those come with rechargable battery blocks. A custom 3 axle with 1 stud between wheel sets would make it feasible on a 30 stud locomotive for instance. The lego L motor does not respond to a remote right? You need the app? Or did I misunderstand that? Rather not give my kid a phone, point of lego is to play with the bricks and the remote.
  7. Nice review. Those dropping boulders are fun and good to see the train can displace them. That new track element could be a fun thing, worth seeing if that can also move other stuff or make something rotate. Or is it just a plate you thick and that makes the technic bar pop up and move the 'loose' plates above.
  8. Hi, After lurking and responding a bit I'll give you my creation. I am a fan of the 7740, though I never owned one, i love its colours and just the basic simple playability of it as it represents your typical intercity train. I am a 80s kid so what can I say. We have a PU R40 based track so I have this one build 6 wide. I collected the doors and windows through the last year in several buys and that inspired this build. The locomotive is still based on the old design, but I have plans to make it more like a BR103, but still doubting about 6 or 4 axles. Have not figured out how to use the middle hole on the train motor for a blind yet. I was thinking on adding a 2x2 round with hole there, but I think I may need to use some external structure for it. Adding a pivoting third wheel behind the train motor will result in a very long locomotive which will look odd with the carriages in my opinion. I did make the carriages longer than the original. They are 32 studs base and then 2 studs extensions on either side for the connections. I kept the similar arrangement of passenger and diner carriage but rearranged a bit and used different techniques for the roof and ends. Inside the passenger car I also gave first class a different type of seating. I am experimenting with a stripe on the diner car but I may remove that. As the holiday season is coming I also installed some light so that the munchkin and I can have fun running the train in the dark.
  9. Wow impressive locomotive. Very peculiar styling in its design which you found a good solution to. Also love how you handled that middle boogie. Simple and perfectly functioning but you need to come up with it first.
  10. looking great! indeed good thing those red doors came on PAB. I've wanted them to for my own firestation moc but the price was way too high.
  11. Having seen this one in Utrecht I have to say it looks very nice. Also nice transition in the underground from soil to concrete.
  12. Hi, Thanks for that shot of the interior. I always like it when you have some dails, levers and such. But should the firebox not be lower? Forgive my lack of knowledge on steamers, but the only one I saw had it at deck level. On your ideas you have these images of running and the tendor with axles, also great to share here imo. I'm especially curious how you did the motor and have the other axles with it. You have 4 on the tendor and how to make it curve. Im gonna try a six axle electric locomotive so testing stuff now, but always curious to see how others solve it.
  13. None taken, no worries. Just a lego train fan enjoying your build. But I lack the deep knowledge many of you have in train types and models, makes. I figured because you have the interior of the loco all build you would put a battery pack in unit B for instance, at least I would do that. But indeed not all people motorize their trains. My kid wants to run them, so I end putting a motor on whatever I build.
  14. I'm not a steam expert so I cannot say anything about the design but that it indeed looks streamlined to me. Like the colour scheme. It is not judgable from the photos, but for an ideas submission I would be interested to see the interior of the cab and or coal loading. But i'm kinda a sucker of seeing some stuff there and maybe be able to actually load coal (even when you have a hub in the tender).
  15. Looks great. The style is awesome, love that era. Love the colours also, had no clue lego made so many pieces in this dark blue colour.
  16. Nice looks good. Lovely colourscheme, black and yellow. Could go for a blacktron train even. Nice that you furnished the interior engine block. reckon a motor would go in the B unit then?
  17. Really enjoyed this section of the layout you joined. Really great details and loads of small items.
  18. I like this, love all the interior stuff. Ever considered actually dropping 1x1 rounds (yellow or tan) into the wagon to make it a working grain elevator?
  19. This is pretty cool, love this design adaptation into a modern version. Black trees and the two colours of leaves really work well.
  20. Yeah I started a revolution! :D
  21. Regular switch, single cross-over and Y are 3D printed at trixbrix indeed. Does feel solid, but more a mat finish than the sparkling lego finish.
  22. Looks great, really like the ideas in this. Even at 6w I think you already did a great job!
  23. Thanks for clearing that up, will google for that.
  24. Though I do not understand which part he uses for the switch it does sound good to have it move when the train passes. It does little play features which make stuff standout and make your kid also smile when you show a set.
