Thanks. Indeed pretty simple setup. Was also the intention. Had to do with only parts I have. A Christmas break build. I only used a special car base for the base, which makes it less ideal to reproduce for me at the moment. But some black plates will do too. I love all the super detailed models I see around, but sometimes easy and clean also works imo. Thanks!

That is a great shot of them all lined up. I am gonna have a good look on the llmtc ones next event. I hope to make one someday, but then more 7 or 6 wide to match my tight r40 curves. Great to see you actually use pf train motors and then a powerless third wheel. Or do you mean fake as in not a wheel at all? Or a blind wheel?
-
Indeed. Wish I could make it run better. It's horrible on bends and with pulling wagons. Considering rebuilding the drive train or different gear. I've tried rubber bands but then the wheels loose their edge in the corners and it derails 🤣. Idea is to build more NS locomotives, but then my own MOC. Thinking about a SIK at the moment with cube motors. Thanks. The platform is just attached via the ladder yes. Stays perfect in place whilst driving. In reality you would have tank brackets ofocurse. I wanted to avoid that top plate which would have fixed it ofcourse. But it also works like this.

Ok never knew that the train has French roots. I've seen raised his locomotive run on their layouts. So cool to have a full fleet of locomotives.

Fair choice. Neither have I so far, I do use printed bricks.

[MOC] Awdry's Thomas Mk. 3 and Rapido Evolution Coaches (7W)
LL1982 replied to SerperiorBricks's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looks really great, like how effective the look already is without rod and such. Great colours, really pops! -
Nice, great to see how you did the technical part also.

Another great one. You got a whole fleet of these? Have to say they look very similar to a Dutch train I am used to. I believe those also came from Alstom. Not too much of a true train guy, I know they are marked as NS1600 here, some of the LLMTC (Dutch lego train club) made them in 8w, pretty solid ones. Though I think your nose and boogies definitly are a step up.

If possible I would make the 635 lettering on the tender bigger, to match the original.

I've been eyeballing the 7813 for a while but the prices are steep. When I saw these dome pieces in a local lego bricks and pieces store I decided the upgrade the set into my own vision on it. The spheres are internally locked with some pins on their own. I did not put a top 2x8 or 2x10 plate on it to fix it at the top also. I found it looking better without, though with a top plate would be stronger. Not 100% sturdy now, will not pass the Lego team test, but they survive picking up, driving R40 switches and most importantly my kid :D I opted for two spheres which seemed more appropriate to me based on what i've seen on industry lines (no expert here, so do not shoot me) and it gave me a better wheel base for fixed axles without causing too much drag in corners. I wanted a top platform for access to valves on top so I added that. I am not to sure yet about the old type hose, I may remove that completely and make it more sterile. Missing some parts, but the intend is to make it a string of three wagons. Any thoughts? Locomotive design not my own, I bought instructions for that and modified it a bit.

Not yet, but I saw a few L motors on offer at a local BL store. It would free up my train motor for another build. So it's worth considering it.

Thanks. I understand your point about the doors. I also build it with the doors on the outside plain and was doubting what would work better. Its now on a jumper plate for the step back. I also considered keeping the bars at the normal outside of the locomotive and only recess the door. Someone else also mentioned putting the train motor on its side inside. Its something I will thinker with in the near future. But I will build the boogie first to see how two will fit. I do doubt if just putting a technic motor in (horizontal or vertical) is not easier then.

I did not knew that part came as trans, something to remember!

I see what you mean compared to the photo. It's much cleaner engine than a Dutch one I rode. I would maybe add those 'wings' or boiler plates or what you call them on the front. That would look sweet. I am also not into stickers. I am considering having some printed bricks made for my locomotive to get the detail on. Especially that lettering you have. Brick build letters is also impressive but I never tried that.

Nice I have yet to tackle a steam train. Like this livery, so great. I would put some details around the locomotive maybe, to break the form a bit. I would also make the coaches longer I think. They appear short compared to the train. So maybe make 2 long ones vs 4 shorter ones?

Nice one. Looks very much a like local Dutch trains. I like how you did the nose. I would have done a complete green brick between the lights though and not half like now. Great to see that rear end also lit. Is that via the hub? Or a separate power source?
-
Haha that's a fun conversion and nice for the tree. Time for some gingerbread wagons now.

Thanks appreciated. I'm happy how this one ended up.

You can also check out this movie. Dutch guy rebuilds 80s layout. https://youtu.be/V1OIXwXhm-4?si=srJfD-DPclaJGkt1

Nice one! I am not a trains guys, but this is a siemens taurus right? Just so that I know I compare it to the right type. I like the style with the red, grey, black stripes done with plates. But also that front end design with the angle. Seeing the benefit for your boogies when using the 7wide.

The parts are maybe basic @JopieK but indeed the concept is great. I love that 7777 book just for viewing and thinking could i do something like that? I envy that hobby trains set. Its just a Christmas box full of nice stuff and you can build and change. It would be day 1 buy for me if sets like that come out. I know I can also bricklink all those parts and it has seriously enough crossed my mind that I got a part list loaded in BL. But I also feel torn from times, shall I build my layout more realistic, or keep an approach like Lego always did and use real world inspiration to build my own version. I agree that police train it is lost on me. I can see it from a 8 yrs old perspective that this can work. But why not put a generic locomotive back on sale (with motor) and sell carriages as loose item. I remember my brother and I used to build the train that we boarded with the car in Switzerland each vacation. No motor, just hand powered train. We had a great time just reusing bricks. My daughter she likes to build, but she builds and is done. There is no rebuild. It feels more static than how I remember my own youth.

[MOC] LEGO HŽPP Končar 6211-001 battery-electric multiple unit

@Ashi Valkoinen thanks for the elaborate reply. I did not know about these parts. Buwizz sounds interesting 🤔 expensive but rechargeable. -

Wow that nose is a great piece of work also with that hose so shaped. Really stuff to stripe for one day. What do you mean with a light tansmitting cable? You mention two pu motors on buwizz and all those PF lights. Ive seen those buwizz blocks, so they can power a lot but how do you manage two engines? I figured that only worked with pf and that inverted switch. -
Oh wow that looks cool. Great looking train overall and also great to see it next to the real thing.
