Awesome job I'll have to look into getting me some of those sails - great idea! The only thing I'm not too sure about is the blue trim on the boat; it blends with the water rather. I know you wanted to use those ninja flags, but it still would look better with a different trim (you could keep the flags; it might work out colourisely) Oh, and lengthening one of the cannon smokes and shortening the other may help it look a bit less strange.

Yes. Sooooo nearly there. A few pointers - The background is lovely; just extending the wall and green-ness so there isn't a gap with the foreground would make it perfect. (you could edit the background to do this, if you haven't got the bricks/bother) It's more common to use 1x1 cones/cylinders for microscale people, but they could just be fat... some different coloured/shaped hats could just add that little edge I'm not too sure about the white plate flags though; it would look fine without them, in my opinion. Also, a figurehead? It could just be a 1x1 yellow plate in-between the studs of the 2x4 plate. Could the sails be built the other way round? It doesn't really matter, but it's a little distracting. The medium-distance trees are a little flat - adding more leaves to "round off" the branches would be good. If you haven't got them, it doesn't matter at all. As Zuloo said, the railing could do with a bit of balancing out; would you make it brown (wood) and have someone getting knocked through it? The dark grey arch isn't really working for me; putting it flush with the rest of the wall may help, or doing another technique would help a lot. I'd prefer SNOT/tiled stonework, but that's not really a major problem.

Question regarding creating your own figs
SlyOwl replied to Barbaros's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
There are some people out there who will print them for you if you want; Kaminoan does (scroll down), but he's unfortunately temporarily closed. I've moved this too -
You don't need to read this bit - Over half-term, my family and I did a house-swap to York. I quickly discovered their Lego box, and after removing the majority of the plastic soldiers, K'Nex, Jenga, bits of paper, crayons, military vehicles, some random sparkly stuff, miscellaneous... found a large infestation of clone brands (mostly Megablocks, but some Tyco). I discarded most of it into another pile, but some parts seemed useful. This is the important(ish) bit - Some of the clone brand parts I found could actually be useful in MOCs, as Lego doesn't produce the same parts in any form. The first one is Megablocks - a double sided 2x2 plate. The studs are hollow on one side, and solid on the other. The middle is the same height as a normal plate. The next is Tyco - an inverted version of the above. However, it is 1.5 plates high (it has to be, as studs - even Lego ones - are just over half a plate high, so they wouldn't fit in the middle of a 1 plate high version); therefore, when with a single plate attached, it has a depth of 1 brick. In the right-foreground you've got a regular Lego tile next to a Tyco plate, which is 1.5 plates high, for comparison. The design of the part reminded me of the bottom of a Lego 2x2 turntable... Liquorice All-Sorts, anyone? I'd be interested to know if you would use these in your MOCs if you had them, as they fill a niche that Lego doesn't. I would use them, especially if the double-sided plate was in 1x1 form. The inverted one is less useful at 1.5 plates high (except for complex SNOT, where it could be very useful), but I'd use it at 2 plates high, especially in 1x1 form.

Thankye Who is this SkyOwl you speak of? The flippers are attached by clips to an exo-force trans-flexi-thingy on top of the tower, and then after that they are balanced (but with a 1x1 brick/plate/round plate attached to the stud) in rows, leaning inwards onto a variety of different wheel sizes. It would be possible to make it stronger using more clips and flexi stuff, but I ran out The well is a technic chain link, as Fluyt said Scarecrow, yes. Crops, yes. Sheep, yes. I did think that when I made it (it was really steep the first try, but that looked wrong), but I can't see myself using it in the next few months, so I thought I might as well use it this time round. Mini Castle Contest IV on Classic-Castle. It's sort of a fore-runner to the Colossal Castle Contest.

I had intended to do a castle version of King Kong (Clancy of course being Kong), with a giant dragon, bat and dreagle (dragon+eagle), as the bi-planes, but I ran out of time to build the dragon and bat, so here's the dreagle...

Only thing is, it would come up with a Firefox/IE cannot display this page thing if the server wasn't responding, rather than what looks suspiciously like the BS has discontinued operation...

This Lugnet thread seems to be about last year's convention; maybe if you contact him? It's probably too late now, though.

Emirates logo, someone here that knows arabic?!
SlyOwl replied to JopieK's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
It may be worth noting that the symbol on the left is just a pictogram version of the wiriting; the :) (rotated) with the 1|) goes on the bottom, the |_. in the middle and the d| on the top. -
Staff PTV Contest You've got your chance to smash each other's brains out in the Pillage the Village Contest, but now it's the Eurobricks Staff's turn! There's some crazy rules, mind you - And I've already kicked off! ^ Captain Zuloo is a poo.

CONTEST: Pillage the Village - Terms & Conditions
SlyOwl replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
Nope (that's cheating ). You don't have to stick things down properly though; they can just be balanced. However, if you procure some of these, they're legal. Don't listen to Craptin Zupoo Digitally removing the print from a torso is perfectly fine, as is adding a CG torso. -

Ayneeway... It's fine Nowhere in the rules does it state that gore or violence is a requirement - It's just been interpreted by many that they are. Implications of violence etc. are just as difficult to introduce; perhaps moreso. When it comes to it, voting is by the members, and it's up to them which they like best, be it gorey or not gorey. It's your MOC, your choice; you don't have to listen to them if you don't want to. You may lose votes to those who post saying they don't like it; but there may be more out there who don't post, but do like it. -
Thanks Joey; the discussion on EB can be found here However, I think he has already taken apart the keyring, but can't seperate the head from the hair. In this instance, I can't help. The head is glued to the hat, and given that the "line of contact" between the two parts isn't straight, it's impossible to fit a knife in there. You could experiment with some sort of glue/paint thinner, but this may damage the bricks, or the printing on the face.

Thankee all! Tempting...but then again, I do have a rather unique style, and the thatched roof would probably have given it away Check the BS gallery - I don't own any other staff sigfigs I was building this for 2.5 weeks, but I've been waiting on a BL order (guess what ) for a week or so since then. It's called motherly love It's actually quite cheap (relatively speaking), compared to other "advanced" roof techniques (like the thatch). It cost about $7 for the whole roof shown, and there aren't any special pieces required other than that. Ah would've if ah could've

I actually like this a lot. Whilst there's no violence or outright action, the figure posing (and use of the Scabbers rat as opposed to the standard one) indicate that there will be some soon, either originating from the rat or the pirate. Furthermore, there's the whole story behind it - how did the pirate get there without the rat noticing? And how did the rat get there? Regarding the actual MOC, replacing the bley base with a blue one would smooth it off, and the island could do with a little bit of height (maybe raise the palm tree one plate, and one of the 1x2 tiles next to it). A green or brown palm tree thingy instead of the black one would look a little better. The palm tree also looks a little tall; maybe remove 2 segments... What's he holding in his other hand? Is it a knife? A photo from a few degrees to the left could help this, as it's a little confusing to me Could you do it against a blue background (or edit one in)? That could look great! A subtle and sophisticated piece
-
I like! The only trouble I can see is the roughness around the edges of the palm tree bits, but that can't be helped If only they'd make a cone that's in-between the 1x1 and 2x2 My bad I don't know much about cannon sizes - I've corrected it now, and indexed both.

CONTEST: Pillage the Village - Terms & Conditions
SlyOwl replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
Bathtubs, yes (tin or wooden tubs, but without taps). Sinks - possibly, but these mainly came in around 1850, with the development of better ceramics. Bucket-showers were mainly outdoors, but with a canvas curtain around them on a wooden frame. When tiling became common, indoor showers were more fiesable, as the tiles prevented water damage to the building. Here's a modern version of a bucket shower. But it's completely up to you what you do -
CONTEST: Pillage the Village - Terms & Conditions
SlyOwl replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
Sorry, no. Surely you have enough plates to make a 16x16 base? Just a bucket on a hanging pivot with a rope attached to turn it over, much like you'd ring a church bell. But nothing sophisticated like we English have today. Or you could go down the Swiss Family Robinson route - complex plumbing made out of bamboo, but completely unrealistic. Nope. I can't see why you need one though... Correct -

Looks like this got overlooked! No, only Lego please - there are enough standard parts out there to suffice.
