  1. It can be done, if unfair play is suspected... Yup, pirates often fought each other; alternatively, pirates are easily adaptable into villagers. Just try and make it clear which side is which Aw man, I know just how you feel - buying parts in ones, because they're so expensive Sorry, no. Upright MOCs only please, unless it's going down a waterfall or something. Any fitting minifig (custom or official) is fine. What does your heart tell you? Just remember that minifig heads with printed hair but without actual hair look strange Custom only refers to modified parts or ones that haven't been manufactured by the Lego Group. Therefore, you can build your own boat, modify 6057, or use the original. What does your heart tells you?
  2. Hmm... how posable are they? I'd suggest a snake, of sorts (no need for arms and legs, just give it a hat, a scarf and a cheesy waistcoat) They're people who like to explore their "animal side" by dressing up and using extensive make-up. Some even go as far as surgery... Now it's just getting like POTC
  3. Is this the SNOT you were talking about? It looks great I've always liked the blue-white combo; toothpasty-fresh! The smaller icebergs could do with being raised out the water; they look a little funny on the same level; maybe some white tiles? Good job on the slope at the back, although you would benefit from some 1x3 slopes in there
  4. Q&A up in the first post! No LDD or MLCAD, but digital camerasare allowed. You may "clean up" images and edit in backgrounds, but special effects (cannon fire e.t.c) and editing the actual MOC (removing supports, colourising bricks) are not. Standalone is fine, but remember that people will be looking for cruelty. Imperial is fine, as is pirate, armada - and islander A sub-forum is a lot of effort for one contest, and would just be merged with the main forum afterwards... Minifig photos are fine. You can do pirate vd pirate if you want (e.g. blue hats vs red hats) Fabuland Pirates...meh. Yup.
  5. You'll be heading in the wrong direction if you go after the BSB... Prize-shuffling should be fine, but it's still being discussed. Yes. I'm expecting something big from you, given your performance in the CC Battles Contest Many Adventurers (and Castle) minifigs can easily be adapted into pirates, so if they look like pirates, then there won't be a problem Actually there is one MISP, but I'm not saying which Actually not; FC has existed unofficially (i.e. only root admins registered) since February, but only came public in August.
  6. Thankee! Just some more emails to clog up my inbox ~And vice-versa? Note the amazing cross-colour stroke from his torso to legs - an incredibly difficult achievement! Man, I need to get the cape and torso
  7. Woah! Great improvement! The water's fantastic now (except the roof-top tile to the left of the boat - rotate it 90 degrees ), especially the wave crashing into the boat! The beach looks so much better now, and so does the shelter. Lovely waterfall (little more white in there, perhaps?), and the plants look a lot better. I'd actually revert the sea-floor to black/tan/grey, as it looks a bit funny in blue. As per the contest guidelines, would it be better to have the boat sunken? After all, he has been there many years, and it would have either sunk by then, or he'd have dragged it up and begun repairs (there's an idea ~ a raft perhaps?). Then again, I like the look of the boat as it is... The specks of light grey in the rock look a little odd, as they seem a little isolated; a few more specks in there, or remove them altogether? The top of the wall is also a bit straight - breaking it up a little would be nicer, in my opinion. Nice skeleton positioning And that's all I can say! Man, you're going to be good some day! Yes. In the words of Bonaparte, there's something big in the pipeline. And it's nearly out.
  8. I like what you've got going on here; the arrangement of the bundle is perfect, and the trans-water fits in nicely. Regarding the SNOTtyness, I would have gone for a bley "overlay" for the path - building it out of plates and putting it on top of the SNOT. If this doesn't work, a scattering of 1x1 round plates and 1x1 plates on the path work well. Using more plates in the SNOT to give smoother angles (as opposed to bricks) could reduce the "pixellyness" too I see you've filled the background in pure white, but it has filled in some areas of the MOC aswell, making the whole thing look "bleached out". I'd suggest using the colour exchanger/replacer tool instead, as it gives more control over the areas that are whitened. Is there any chance we could get an unedited photo for comparison?
  9. Mee too pleese
  10. We've had a discussion about this before here. There's a lot of good methods in there. It looks suspiciously like a jelly-tot
  11. It looks like the files were lost when Classic-Pirates had some down-time last month. I've re-uploaded them now, so everything should be fine
  12. Okay, I know this is detrimental to my chances in the contest, but here goes! The good: -Tan sand -Seaweed (plant thingy and whip) - nice alternatives to standard leaf piece) -Underwater section is great, but as you said, a little colour variation wouldn't go amiss -Mud/silt in bottom of boat I wouldn't have thought of that -Great skeleton placement -The second picture (waterless) could be really easily adaptable as a dried-up desert gorge; do I sense a Wild West MOC coming up? -Nice fire pit; trans-orange flames instead? -Wing piece as breaker; got another of those? White would work too. Suggestions: (I'm not saying The Bad - what you've got is great, but these are my suggestions; I'm assuming you're going to be doing a bit of BLing/PaBing, as no AFOL who's only bought sets has that many round bricks with leaves on ) -The minifig. The head+hair combination is great, but an Islander body? I'd recommend a standard pirate one, with one arm yellow (i.e. torn-off sleeve). I'd also change one of the legs to green (preferably opposite side to the torn-off sleeve), to give a ragged trouser leg where the Islander leg is. -Using transparent bricks (light blue/blue/clear/mix) SNOT is your best attempt at getting the water to look (relatively) realistic. I'd use lots of 1x2 bricks, to get a constant texture. Opaque blue may work - and would be cheaper+easier - but wouldn't look as good, in my opinion. -Use white plates to create surf. -Add a shark underwater, chasing the 3 fish (take the third off the surface) -The sandbank (?) looks a little weird; I'd either remove it, or replace it with the top of the underwater mountain sticking up through the water. The underwater mountain can also be used to support the water, so minimizing those supports. -Plates are fine for waves; bricks are a little too sharp without any "easing in" - putting plates around them to give a more wave-like shape, as opposed to a rather square wave -Could you slope the beach a little more? Also moving the vegetation back a little more could be more realistic... -The tan and rocky rises are a little too steep for my liking; maybe a few more slopes in there around the edges? The tree may work better broken up into smaller plants and 2 or so small trees of around a third of its current height instead. Do I see grey in the branches? -Could the shelter stand out a little more? If you've got an old sail, that might work well, but otherwise there's not too much problem here. Could you use oars/spears to give the impression of wooden supports for the roof? They don't have to be attached thoroughly, as the weight of the roof and the studs should keep them in place. What you've got here so far is a good start; it just needs a little refining here and there. -And if the water doesn't work out, I'd just leave it. The judges will (should) understand. Or you can do a Wild West MOC Hope this helps
  13. I guess this is like Marmite - either you love it or you hate it! Likkle is a mis-pronounciation of Little; just in my general style of not using real words all the time... The horn is the body and the hand...well it just looks right to me. I don't have a trans one It's a Clikits "donut" piece; a stud-width hole in the middle, but bar-width wide. I spent an enjoyable Chemistry lesson today drawing fairies on my test, but none of them were particularly inspirational parts-wise But it's not my main project, so it'll be sidelined for the time being... Bat+fairy=fat
  14. Some of you may have seen Micahberger's fairy a while back; it seems a little big for my liking, so when one of my hummingbirds went wrong...well y'know... Anway, these guys are soooo fun to build, and the colour-combinations can be awesome; I just need some more feathers and horns in different colours...
  15. We've had a discussion similar to this before ~ here. There's a link to my tutorial somewhere in there; I hope it helps Using pliers, just pull hard and the rod should just come out. There'll be a small hole in the top of the "neck" of the torso, but this won't be visible when it's used in a minifig. Not all heads are glued to the hats, and for stormtroopers it doesn't matter, surely? - You can't see the head underneath anyway... I don't know of any un-glue, but using a craft knife to pry around the bottom of the legs can remove them. If the hips break, at least you've got the torso and legs.
  16. Ah yes, that pre-dates me And I was only thinking of Pirate ships when I posted, although I wondered how you got a black one; it didn't look painted... I only have 16-wide hulls; I'll have to experiment with this, as they have more tabs underneath the hull, around a 2x6 area, instead of a 2x2...
  17. Sorry, I only replaced the original links with my saved ones to prevent any loss of them if they are withdrawn. The originals are http://www.cheyenne-mountain.com/Bilder/IDS/pir1.jpg http://www.cheyenne-mountain.com/Bilder/IDS/pir2.jpg http://www.cheyenne-mountain.com/Bilder/IDS/pir3.jpg
  18. Aw, Phred, I was just about to index this when I had to go, and when I came back, you'd done it Anyway, thankyou all for the comments It's supposed to be a baboon, but anything monkey-like is fine. A dog? Maybe - it's open to interpretation Aw. Some of the tiles and plates are connected by "half-stud" - they're not fully connected to the structure underneath, so you can get a shallow angle. The rest are attached by a variety of hinges. SNOT bricks? If you mean tiles, then yes, I do have them - I use up alla me grey! The water and beach are just made of normal bricks on their sides Really? I guess it depends on the angle you come from; Dung Mall, Pooh Sticks and some others were very popular, but my more technical MOCs (like this one) are probably better overall. Then again, if it boils down to favorites, then this one, the Steampunk Pirate Ship and Pooh Sticks win; I've got a mixture in there Boy More pics? Sorry, 3 was the maximum for this contest, so I couldn't be bothered with more My Brickshelf. My Flickr. It's actually meant to be a plaited mat (of sorts); I didn't have enough (any) green/tan hands to give it touches of not-dry-yet-ness. In fact, nearly all the hands are connected in strips. I had intended to use this on the roof (as dried palm fronds), but it was too weak, and kept collapsing between the parallel bars. There's quite a lot of this around; personally I like them, as it fits in with - what I see to be - the generally pastel ethos of the whole thing; the colours are as a child would draw them, overall; blue for water, grey for rock, green for trees, brown for earth and yellow for sand. The whites work well with this for me, but it doesn't seem to work on everyone, so I'll investigate other methods. It also covered up the jagged edges of the white SNOT onto the sand, which were annoying me The one bit I did without changing at least once! I haven't got any dark green (I ordered 10 off BL, but when they came they were medium green ), and I used up all my small ones on the nearest tree (yes, just 3 )... Castaways Contest on Forbidden Cove. I was actually worried I would be disqualified because there was quite some debate over the ruling that SNOT bases aren't allowed, but they are when they've got a baseplate underneath (hence why there's one here). Luckily Aaron's said it's fine, so I can dismantle it now Studs Not On Top - building sideways (like the water)
  19. Vig 15d Brickshelf find. By this guy called slyowl; never heard of him before!
  20. I think I know the one you mean - from the shop you mean! My friend lives in Welwyn, and brought in a cheap tripod to school, for an end-of-year ICT project. It broke before we'd begun filming Buy cheap, buy twice I don't use a tripod for taking shots of sets/MOCs - I find it easier to hold the camera in my hands. I do have one though, which I use for doing stop-motions occasionally. It's a bit wobbly, but that's probably because I made it out of an old music stand, with the top and middle cut off!
  21. Oops, looks like no-one indexed this! Done! You may want to create a new thread about this; I'm not sure Captain Greenhair saw it in the Telesell thread. I don't think that a 12-wide black hull top exists though...
  22. I'm not sure how accurate you're trying to be to the Unicorn (are we going to see a Tintin and Captain Haddock? ), but you could try these HP rooves - Alternatively, you could try using wedge plates at angles on the roof, as seen in Cafe Corner - But building it in real life sounds best to me; I never did like LDD much... That said, what you've produced so far have been oustanding!
  23. Pooh Sticks Each player drops a stick on the upstream of a bridge and the first to emerge on the other side wins
  24. I used this technique in my latest MOC - Upside down brown plates with yellow (I would have used tan, but don't have any) hands in the "tubes", which then connect upwards. Battle droid arms add variation and colour. It's quite weak, but effective (not then best picture).
  25. This is superb. It's a great cross between the BSB and SES, but what really makes this is the sails (I've never said that before) - adapting the RBR ones to SES shape must have been really difficult, but they look great If only this had been released as a set You've managed to keep it looking like a set, whilst having MOC aspects to it, like the expanded crow's nests I've always thought that the BSB could have done with some of those yellow 1x2 arches; and you've done them brilliantly!
