I've just done 2 shako moulds...who knows? Fingers crossed! It's a little less tight than official parts, but can still withstand vigorous shaking, although not knocks. As for melting and mixing, it isn't actually a thermosetting plastic, more a precipitous one, so the only way it could get stuck to me would be if I left it on my skin for a week It gets quite brittle when left to dry without moulding, but the hairpiece is strong (not quite as strong as ABS) and not too brittle. I'll have to see how it turns out in the long run though...

Well, you know that I have solved it! But seriously though, I'm going to try moulding a shako in casein. If it works, they'll be really cheap - it costs around 10c for the raw materials alone

CONTEST: Design your own Indy Movie! DISCUSSION
SlyOwl replied to Siegfried's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm in. Good considering I don't own any Indy, no? -
Indiana Jones and the post-apoc Block-Block wok MOC (with extra NannanZ and pooZ) On a trip through Block-Block land to retrieve the Wok of Power, our hero has been captured by evil Nannan drones! Luckily Sinner is saving the day by summoning the Army of the Last Pooz with his Staff of Roll, although he didn't count on the stench (odd, considering he likes a lot of smelly people, eh Stinkley? ). Whatsmore, the Evil Penguin of Block-Block is abducting the Wok of Power with his space craft, although he hasn't installed a "Beam me up, Snotty" device yet, so has to revert to more primitive means. Points of reference - Nannan's Contortion Block-Block Moko's Ipod Banksy Ice Cube Tray All poo types have been verified against the Bristol Stool Form Scale.

Hey all! OK, so I'm not a customizer, but I wanted a go at producing my own parts. I heated around 50ml milk to just below boiling with a squirt of PVA glue. I then added a teaspoon or so of vinegar. Green lumps appeared and I seived these out. So I had a slightly greenish looking thing... Casein! It's a type of primitive plastic. I then squeezed out the excess liquid with my hand and gave it a brief zap in the microwave (not too long - I accidently melted a few parts a while back ) to dry it more. Then I dried it with kitchen towel. By this stage it felt a little like wet breadcrumbs - it didn't hold together. So I used a little more PVA and mixed it up again, to get a more mouldable substance. But I couldn't be bothered to find any clay to make a crude mould, so I just stuck a solid-stud minifig head into the middle and let it dry for about a week. I cut off the edge parts (which were very brittle) with a knife, and bingo! I have solved the shako crisis! A lot of shaving with a craft knife and a little filing and I've got a basic shape...it does look a bit 'perched', but that was because I didn't stick the head very far in before I let it dry, so I didn't have enough plastic around the sides to get a smooth edge with full side parts. This partly explains why the sticky-in-things look a bit odd. A lick of gold enamel paint later, and waddyaknow? There are a few imperfections on the surface because of air gaps in the casein - I'll trty putting it in a syringe next time to squash these out. Any ideas how to make it dry faster? Make it stronger?

And for me, a crow's nest piece with an attachable railing! Maybe like the 1/2 barrel but wider and with a square hole that fits over the mast.

We have you now SN! Should have done it like Nannan or Rocko's - you know - the Charon one

That's odd - I always imagined you as humanoid...

The sails are great! Wood ON! The hull looks a little undersized and un-hullish...some smoothifying wouldn't go amiss (applies to colour too) And are these supposed to be pirates? Who are they Res-Qing? Give it time lad...

Nothing - it's a joke, hence why it's his tag, not rank. He voted against Hinckley in a poll

Is the new Castle line making old ones obsolete?
SlyOwl replied to concreteasflesh's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
New ones win any day for me, a heavy MOCer. -The soldiers are more uniform - you get a nice army easily, without having to worry about all the different torsos that so jumbled up older factions. -Faces. I like to give them personalities and have "action" faces for what they are doing. Smileys just don't cut it. -They look better (silver e.t.c...) -People-on-people fights get boring after a while. Giant trolls e.t.c. add variation -I like using bley. It's a nice colour and it adds variation. However, I don't like light bley, as I can't tell the difference from old light grey. -The new war machines are much more fun! -More fantasy factions = good -More browns and tans; better colours for MOCing -I don't play with sets and rarely use BURPs, 1x(X)x5 bricks or panel walls, so the older stuff isn't that useful, and therefore expensive for what you get. -
Good, but now it has got Islanders! Clicky It's hilarious
