Awesomeness! The ship is a beauty, and I like how the whole MOC looks bigger than it actually is It's good to see an adaption of the straw roof; could you have used some sort of wedge plates to avoid the gaps?

Some more names may be revealed at the Official Lego Club Event for Pirates... (Via Classic Castle)

It's the angle of the barrel which affects distance. Of course there is the standard trajectory influence, but you need it angle steeply enough that the cannonball will actually slide down the barrel when the pin is pulled back. If it doesn't, then the cannonball won't go very far. This is one of the major design flaws with the BSB and SES: the cannon barrels are almost horizontal, so the cannonballs don't slide down, so they don't work. What's the word on Brickbeard's Bounty? On a related note, we had a discussion on how to increase the range and power of the old cannons here

Weird... in the first picture it looks just like this part, in black: My bad

That's awesome! I'm not very good on ships, so it's great to see one as lovely as this! Especially the white hull. The only thing I'm not too sure about is the space control panel thing at the top of the mast; I'd have gone with some combination of brown parts. And I do know what a motorcycle is! They go vroom vroom and CGH has a new one that goes vroom vroom vroom

Danke! It's a yellow stud painted gold (I don't have any official ones), but it didn't quite work out The soldier's hand going through the epaulette holds the stud in place.

CONTEST: Pillage the Village - Terms & Conditions
SlyOwl replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
I'm just going to overule you here, Zuloo This customization achieves the same goal as applying decals, but by a different means. As decals are allowed, so is this. However, "scratching" which may "accidently" result in modification of the actual shape of the part (not the printing) isn't allowed -
You could link to an external folder (on imageshack, brickshelf, flickr, photobucket e.t.c). I would be most happy to browse through, as this is truly fantastic. I'd like a few more shots of the monster and the landscaping, as they're quite hard to see from the main pictures. I love the gorilla skull especially, and the jutting out sections of rock. The only niggle I have is the cannon fire exploding on the ship. The cannonball hasn't actually hit anything, yet it's exploding! The flames would look better starting closer together, so it looks more like an explosion, and less "wispy". One of my favourites so far

Here we go, Captain Kragg's Sail! It's to the same scale as Phred's BSB jib sail. Now the classic index is complete (I actually have some of those cloth flags, so I could scan those), but we need the Pirates II index! We need - The full set of sails from 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty: The imperial flag from 6242 Soldiers' Fort: The pirate flag from 6253 Shipweck Hideout (the BBB actually contains this, so it's not too important): Any takers?

3rd Mold - Enlarging my Austrian army

Those are looking great! I see what you mean about the shako too The only one which looks a bit funny to me is the Ulan - it looks rather like a mortarboard Then again, I don't go in for historical accuracy, so it doesn't really matter to me. I'm very excited about those dragoons though Can you get them pre-coloured? Or do you have to paint them? Ooo! Lots of taking-off-helmet-with-fierce-expression-ey-goodness! -
Thankee all! It was in my head as I built it, and I had intended it to be in a marsh when I formed the concept a while back. The far right corner (which I built last) was a bit more "civilised" than I'd intended, but I guess it doesn't matter. The final picture in my mind before I started building was the scene from the beginning of Great Expectations. Kinda - Clancy play! More like King-Kong, with the bi-planes replaced with flying Crownies. Mmm... I agree, but I don't really know any other "wet mud" techniques which look good in mounds (it looks better when as riverbanks/pond edges, but not so good as small islands). I'll work on it They're tyres. I only had 5, so that's why the skeletons are a hoop down - or they cheat You're not James?

I only just got around to watching this Awesome stuff, Zuloo! Only you don't sound much like a pirate - more like an Australian...

The shakos aren't particularly working for me (they look rather fat); perhaps some colour would help this, though... The dragoon helmet looks fantastic! Can a minifig grip the plume? According to this page, we can buy them - is this correct? -
Staff PTV Contest The Eurobricks staff are at each other's throats! Watch them battle it out in Hinckley's finely crafted MOC... and mercilessly torment them about it here! Captain Zuloo is a poo.

all. Some sort of electric barbed wire thing; like in WWI (or post-apoc), except electric. A couple of Racers sets. The minifig was called Barney, and was one of the group of drivers who were symbolised by an animal. He was the shark. Yup. Whoosah Skyowl? It took me a week or so to do overall, although I was building for 4 hours too long It was dark by the time I finished, so I had to photograph indoors, which explains the poor photos. The pins on the base slot into the second indent up created by the offshoots of the flame. It was originally intended to be a brewery (y'know all those large trans-blue cylinders in the Exploriens sets - weapons? No! Space barrels! ) The spiders were just an afterthought really, and the vat is the remnants of the brewery idea. Yup, in various space bases and also the Mega Core Magnetizer.

I'll get time to finish a space diorama properly one day...

I really like this and it was one of my favourites for the contest. The birds are really nice (even if they are Eggplant's), and the idea of transplanting most of the ship onto the island is great, if unrealistic I like the coral too (blue flippers ), although it doesn't seem to "flow" that well; each individual design seems very... individual - they're not linked. Some rocks underneath or a more common type of coral (like those yellow hoses) would smooth this out. The first picture unforunately doesn't do it credit, but the ship is beautiful; do you have plans to/did you make it into an un-sunk ship? Oh, and I added some more pictures to your post

CONTEST: Pillage the Village - Terms & Conditions
SlyOwl replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
Well, a 6-page thread overnight isn't bad -
Hmm... I guess ship parts are hard to produce (the masts, anchor and wheel are all 3 part molds, the hull ends require assembly, sails are cloth), which is why for less parts ships in general cost more than other sets with the same number of pieces. This ship actually fits the pricetag of classic ships well - SES- $125 BSB - $120 RBR - $100 It's got the same price as the RBR, but with around 100 less pieces... meh... I wouldn't be getting it anyway, as I only want MOCing parts, which a ship doesn't fully provide.
-
It looks like it's from the Cross Bone clipper Phasheparm Why? Agreed. it's unrealistic, but that doesn't matter when people have no noses (very important for smelling stuff with) or toeses (very important for stubbing stuff with) or poses (elbows and knees are very important for stuff)... I like it; personally, green is a nice trim for a ship - when I get around to building a ship, it'll have lots of green on it! How is it that a simple question thread that was answered in the first post gets 8 replies? Go comment on the fantastic PTV entries instead1

Can I has? I used to have a venus fly-trap, but I killed it by feeding it too many flies... it took me so long to catch them too, running round the house with a lighter and can of hairspray

Good job. The continuation of the hull is very impressive - it looks waaaay bigger now! Just add in a few cannon to the deck, and you're all set I can only question the green elements - I understand you're continuing the original colour scheme, but either no green or more may look better, as currently it's a bit sparse
