  1. Thanks 'Cos I don't have any! I'm not a big fan of the new Imperials (except the Governor), as I don't really like the torso design that much. Yup (although I saw Stardust back in June - my one and only time), the lightning catching aspect was stolen straight out of Stardust. As for the Edge Chronicles, I haven't actually read them, and have only seen a few pictures in a friend's book. The floating rock aspect was more of a generic genre, as opposed to a specific one. However, I didn't want to merely have the rock as a floatation device (like in a cage in the middle of the ship), or as the hull/base (like the city), but to incorporate it in a new and practical way. They're supposed to be lightning-powered sharks, but either way is cool! I couldn't fit the sparks onto them anywhere else, and I lack the new sharks. Passengers... this is my whole collection of Recoats! I've got more Bluecoats, but I used them in my last pirate MOC, so I wanted some variety, although I don't like them as much. They're firing the cannon at those pesky lightning-sharks. They built the cage to protect against them, but the poop deck is open to their ravages! I built this in January! Was this in the right topic?
  2. You mean Classic Castle City Standard? I'm not sure it's too well geared to cater for Forts, as they differ considerably in layout to castles. As far as I'm aware, it doesn't allow for water related stuff, like docks. The Soldiers' Fort Standard, by Nelson Yrizarry, is a good alternative. However, it seems to me that it is a bit restricting basing it on a set - a more versatile system could have been made from scratch. His MOC, Le Baton Rouge is based on the system, and works well. The true test of it will be at a convention, in real life. My concern is that the modules may be rather small, so the dock could end up higgledy-piggledy, rather than of a linear and clean structure. Just my two cents
  3. Those look awesome! I'd have really liked to have seen a re-release of the Forestman hat, and also that skeleton shield and armour Although they look somewhat mixed-up - there's a Viking and a Pirate in there too... I'm glad they changed the Jester from the one shown And (maybe it's wishful thinking), but could the hair-under-hat piece be related to the pictures of the Elf? It could be artistic license, but I like to think it was an idea the designers had, but didn't release for the current Castle sets, but that we may see in the future...
  4. I've merged the topics, as there doesn't seem to be much point having seperate - and very similar - ones. I've also added the figure from Soldiers' Fort; we'll refer to him as The Governor, until we get a proper name
  5. This has been brewing for nearly 6 months now, but I've been overly-busy with contests...
  6. Number 2 for me, although I liked the others a lot (especially number 1 - I know I'm not a townie, but Sam Sinister + tan + crenelations = ).

  10. Looks great! Fantastic ice-scaping. That's an interesting texture with the snow - and I like it The beacon is lots of 2x3 wedge bricks, right? Good job, although it may get to be quite expensive if it catches on. Can you use both left and right slopes together, or in alternate layers? Any reason the vikings are not horny hornless?

  12. Regarding runes, see these threads (1, 2). The shield seems to be gibberish, but the tile spells out Lego. (... and on a related note)
  13. It's really sad, that Model builders (and set designers) don't recycle their unwanted builds, but just put it in the bin. Whilst I can understand this for glued models, it seems very wasteful and stupid to do it with normal ones. Then again, it is probably cheaper for them to make new parts than to employ someone to take models apart and sort them.
  14. Nice! Very atmospheric. What's that he's holding in his left hand? I can only say that a cape wouldn't have gone amiss (or one of those inverse capes like in the Dragon Fortress).

So how many of you did it take to build this? Assuming that it took you, Ras and Copmike to build a small Snowmobile, it must have taken quite some time on your own It's very neat nonetheless. You could probably work out some configuration with the base to stop it falling off (Is it you who's pernickety about not attaching bricks? Maybe it's Sinner...) Cherry and banana, though It's one of my favourite pieces - it just has so many uses! The crystal ball and even trans-clear heads just don't compare in functionality. And, of course, it's an Adventurers piece, so must be good Good to see you posting again, Tiny Pies
  16. Only 40 hours?! Wow. I really like all the bley greebly stuff (guns?), although I don't know anything about the actual ship, not being a sci-fi fan myself, but it sure looks cool! The sticky-out bley prong-things (I really don't understand all this space stuff) look great, and help to break up what could have been a slightly dull shape - but nevertheless impressive - into a mass of loveliness (did any of that make any sense? ). My only suggestion is that - speaking from an aesthetic perspective rather than an accuracy one - a few tiles here and there could have broken up the stud pattern on the sides, to make it more interesting. I'm amazed!

    Finally

Amazing! Awesome site, brilliantly executed. I particularly like the building technique articles - I haven't seen anything like this before. I also hadn't seen any of those techniques before You're one of the builders who I've largely missed out on, as I came along during a period of no MOCs from you. However, I love your stuff, and am looking forward to those Pirates
  18. You can start by looking in the Pirate Lego Films Index! I particularly like . Whilst it doesn't show any actual hand-to-hand combat or death, it's very catchy and well made.
  19. Thanks all Yup. The trouble with the leaf pieces is they're made of a plastic that doesn't hold onto studs very well, so whilst I had originally attached most to branches, it ended up as a jangled mess. Yeah. I don't particularly like the idea of having both big and small fully grown trolls (whereas in LOTR there is a distinct species difference between orcs and trolls), so I didn't want to use a normal minifig troll (and I only have 3). I will, although this is the first I've heard of it 1. The piñata comes ready made from the shop (castle), full of candy. 2. Until the candy comes out. 3. Yes. But they're more guidelines, as such. I really need to be getting on with a Pirate project that I've put on hold for the past few days, so it's destroyed already

Thanks Double-stacked dishes wedged together. It's quite strong (although if you drop it... ), although as the dishes don't work prefectly geometrically (with 5 dishes around a central one, there's a gap, with 6 they don't hold together as well), so that means there are weak bits to it, around the edges. The core is quite strong though.
  21. Kurt, I've added that one from MOCpages And various others from the forum. Done! It's not a matter of "qualifying" - everything gets added when I have the time and the bother to
  22. Neat! These wouldn't look out of place in a Theme Park The monkey is actually my favourite, especially the ears! THe bottom jaw looks a little funny, but you did a great job nonetheless. The shark's problem is inconsistency - the body and head don't merge all that well. It doesn't matter too much, as both sections are superb, but just need a matching bit to round them off. The parrot is cute, and I like how you did the bill. Could you have had some arrangement down the back, to smooth the join between the head and body? Agreed. That helmet is a very sharky thing
  23. A fine MOC! Is that a lolly he's holding? I actually like the <insert that tiresome argument> palm tree here - it gives a nice texture, and the ugly base is hidden The grey chains provide a nice contrast, and really stand out (I know it's basic, but I really like it for some reason). We start to see the uses of that baseplate - how long can they be sustained, I wonder, without repetition? Photographing it on a blue sheet/paper would give a good impression of a desert island I suffer from that problem too: I've a reasonably large stock of older sets, which - whilst very nostalgic and fun - don't have the MOCing parts I need. The BSB gives a huge number of grey, black and white plates, but the brown, tan and pearl gold in Brickbeard's Bounty make it much more useful to me (although I haven't got it - I'm just speculating ). The improved part selection and minifigs are also big bonuses. I've had to swing my collection round by buying crucial MOCing parts of Bricklink (brown 1x1 rounds, cheese slopes, grey slopes, green plates), to allow me to MOC at the "current standard" (by which I mean lots of fancy parts, interesting and non-official techniques, plenty of minifig action; as opposed to what I call "Lugnet Standard", which is "bigger is better", only using certain themes like Blacktron and Crusaders, all studs-up, little detail; for which older sets are better).
  24. I would have built something like this for the CCCVI, except there was no Celebration/Festival category, and it wouldn't have helped qualify me for the Master Builder, as I had 2 entries in Misc. already
