  1. Gracias mucho mucho tesero! Puerto Rodrego is spelt right...but the English isn't as good Estudio castellano, pero a veces tenemos que hablar espanol de Sudamericano (no tengo ganas buscar los accentos en mi ordenador) ~ no es tan dificil... That was quick moderation - I only uploaded them a few minutes before you posted! And yes, the whole thing is pretty weak; it's a norm with my MOCs. However, as I don't display them, instead destroying them immediatly after I've uploaded photos, it doesn't really matter. When (if) I ever display anything publicly, it'll be built more strongly. Yes, I painted them with medium green enamel paint, as I wanted to use less brown in the MOC, but the official green doors were too bright. The paint comes off with white spirit, so it doesn't really matter, but I like them as they are. Thanks! Lots of 1x2 bricks built into a wall can be bent/twisted a surprising amount, so that's how I did the wave The seagull was supported by a trans 5L bar, but I edited this out (you can see that the dark-tan 3x3 wing beneath it looks a bit strange, as I didn't do a particularly good job), a it looked funny.
  2. 144d Hola todos! Donde estan mis calcetines? Mucho mucho espanolo gola gola quiero ir a la playa en las vacaciones bueno bueno bacalao manzanas y el pitufo tornasol! Me encanta espanol! (I actually speak it quite well, but in the holidays I to miss out words) New crop technique. Always falls apart There's always been a need for some decent seagulls; will these do? There's a flying one (already released though) in the main picture. The one to the right is supposed to be landing/ruffling its feathers. Domestic violence (they start early these days)... I like to think of this as some sort of masonic hall, only converted into an opium den. It's up for interpretation...
  3. It's all over... Given the points allocation, --1st place -> 6 points --2nd place -> 4 points --3rd place -> 3 points --4th place -> 2 points --5th place -> 1 point The scores finish at: --SirNadroj -> 16 points --ricecracker -> 14 points --Wilhelm Screamer -> 8.5 points --~VBBN~ -> 8 points (Exobuilder dropped out) Which means that SirNadroj is the winner! Well played to the rest of the contestants too - it was a close run thing! Note to all contestants: You may create threads for all your MOCs now And would you - the audience - like to see another EB MOC Triathlon? If so, how could it be improved? It wouldn't be open to those who entered this time around Find the current rules here. What categories would you like to see? How could the rules be modified?
  4. Alright, I admit, I cried Looks like all the folders have gone now; here's the latest. -Thankyou, Phes- Now you need a new objective I just like the humour here; throwing the wench in the sea Tempting the monkey to open the prison with a banana (Disney POTC ride, anyone?)... But I probably will only get the small sets, as I have enough Pirates already, and I can get the special parts (i.e for MOCing) off BL... I'm sure that we'll be seeing reviews long before then; TLC is far too leaky to keep Pirates locked up till May... We may get a blister pack like in Castle, although I'd doubt it... And anyway, for once a ship comes with enemies, so be thankful for that But re-releases practically are new moulds, after 12 years have passed. And the part around it, which doesn't really make sense to me, as they're manufactured seperately... Oh yes, I am! Although I probably won't get the ship for quite a while after it's been released, as I've got enough masts e.t.c. fot the time being, and the holes in the hull aren't exactly the most pressing problem for me, as I'm yet to do a full-size MOC ship Aw. I guess this is good for you anyway, as prices of classic pirate sets will drop as demand for new pirates goes up No pictures, but say all you want
  5. I'll leave this open for one more day... Ah yes; I tried to play it safe this time round; more exciting ones may come round the corner! I only received 5 applicants; maybe better publicity may help next time. And a month (with a week's extension time if necessary) really should be enough time to build a decent MOC - it's how long most EB contests run for... Suggestions for categories? Remember, between the 3, they have to cover every Lego theme Good - that was the point Voting has finished
  6. A simple will do... I was actually thinking of getting a Duplo shark - 26cm long! But it'll have to wait... Slopes outline the hull shape in the SNOT (if that makes any sense) - basically the boat sits in a hole in the SNOT water. Hence why the New Pirate Line uses them. I believe they're Hovito legs from Indy; they're actually brown, with blue print. I'm not sure why he's used them, though
  7. Yes, there have been instances of using bricks to build curved hulls. I use the "round tower" technique of using 1x2 bricks and 1x1 cylinders to create a curved hull; I would have done the whole thing (i.e. both sides), but I ran out of bricks. I would have done it in brown as well, if I'd had enough. I'm not sure how I would do the prow/stern though... Buccanneer's technique is more what you're after, and it looks as if it could be curved, although he hasn't. I wouldn't recommend using the 1x5x5 panel walls, as these reduce curvitude. SirNadroj also used the "round tower" technique for the prow of his Black Pearl - Hope this helps
  8. YES. This is really great! I love the overall aesthetic, and there is very little which could be improved I especially like the transition between the rocks and dock I'd only suggest SNOT water (makes the whole MOC look smoother) and tha crane looks a little odd; maybe one where the string/chain runs between two cart wheels, as seen in the Giant Castle Chess Set? Also, I'm not too sure about the inverted slopes at the bottom of the rock face; is this a common natural phenomenon? This has been really inspiring for my current MOC It's not
  9. I think that the general concensus is that clone brands are of inferior quality, but have some useful elements, such as chrome pistols and cutlasses, parrots and some torsos. They are improving in quality, however, and are cheaper than buying old Lego sets from eBay e.t.c. There are a few reviews on EB concerning clone brands - Lego vs Brick 6237 Pirates' Plunder Comparison Review Enlighten Brick Boats Review Enlighten Brick 0148 Forbidden Cove
  10. Voting begins... Rules And remember the points allocation: --1st place -> 6 points --2nd place -> 4 points --3rd place -> 3 points --4th place -> 2 points --5th place -> 1 point Currently the scores stand at: --SirNadroj -> 12 points --ricecracker -> 8 points --~VBBN~ -> 6 points --Wilhelm Screamer -> 5.5 points (Exobuilder has dropped out) Note to all contestants: You may create threads for your MOCs now ) And the entries... (please look at all before voting ) SirNadroj: Fabuland Sumo This scene depicts a sumo fight between a panda and a monkey, while the referee (Skunk ~ notice the colours ) watches on. This diorama is complete with a torii, bonsai tree, and a street vendor! Extra Picture ~VBBN~: Aquaraider Whacking! ricecracker: Men's Clothing Boutique i wanted to work with my all time favourite theme: town and/or city. it's almost entirely SNOT, but has some SOT work too. i almost forgot to explain what it is. it's a mens clothing boutique with two window-shopping windows. one has a mannequin with business attire and a briefcase, while the other has leisure wear, for playing sports such as shuffleboard (as pictured). outside is the sidewalk with a storm grate (you cant see it, but it would fit stuff inside). then there is the road with the cyclist and sports car. i hope you all like it!. more pictures in the BS folder Wilhelm Screamer: Amphibious Lander As your nation invades that distant and well protected enemy, never forget the option of amphibious assault. And now Loudmouth industry's proudly offers the device for just that purpose: Our Amphibious lander can deploy troops out on the enemy beaches and can provide cover for the departing infantry with a .50 caliber machine gun holding 300 rounds. The turbo prop pushes the lander at speeds of over 20 knots for up to 3 hours. "GO! GO! GO!" (creator notes: I am sorry about something so poorly made, I ran out of time. ) And would you - the audience - like to see another EB MOC Triathlon? If so, how could it be improved? It wouldn't be open to those who entered this time around
  11. I took the liberty of adding a ratings poll to your review, and I also removed (and saved) the box art - if you could review it seperately (in more detail) at some point, then that would be awesome And do you have a better main picture (similar to that on the box) of the set? It would be useful for the Classic-Pirates frontpage Anyway, onto the set. It is perfect. It really is the ultimate shanty port - it symbolises what the Lego Pirate theme was. All the exciting details - like the hidden weapon rack - are truly fantastic, as is all that landscaping. The two boats are great for playability, and the rum/wine in the barrels is a lovely rare touch I really would have loved to own this set at the time. I especially love the interesting drink thing - sort of a decanter...
  12. With a bit of force - but without any tools - you can stick a rod through old (as in 1990's) torsos, as they have a different structure inside. Personally I prefer to use small lengths of pnuematic tubing for "custom" arms, as you can bend it to shape (although it needs to be secured into place).
  13. Well done lad! I especially like the "ribs" on the columns, although I'm not too sure about the pearl slopes on the tops... And it's good to see a non-straight dragon breath for once Have you got any more pictures? And how ironic that there is a skeleton chained to the gates of a skeleton castle
  14. Small thingy...
  15. Mankind's lust for blood caused fire and blood and anguish, yet even then they did not learn that lesson, and slaughtered a cow which had survived the apocalypse (and began to build a small shelter)...
  16. Thanks! I forgot to mention that I used a new (I think) technique for attaching small masts: -The white piece at the bottom of the mast is the bottom half of a 4x4 turntable! The mast fits in perfectly; now you too can add colour to you mast bases! I am not Blockbeard Anyway, anchors, yes. Cannons, no - you can't position them in the holes as the bars on the sides get in the way 1. I can't tell the difference - I'm colour-blind 2. Well, it is nautical! 3. It's cheap and I've got too many. I actually cut it for my Elflands contest entry, to make a long knife for Legolas the elf. For some reason it looks better on the pirate than a normal one did I actually agree with you two here - Steampunk is fun to build once or twice, but it gets a bit samey after that. It's just a nice cross-over theme between castle+pirate and other themes - I'm trying to expand my reportwar repertuar reportoir reporter reportour repatoir repotoir (however you spell it) That's Phes' fault. All those lovely backgrounds, and letting me update the frontpage (chopping out MOCs) It wasn't much more than I usually do to my MOCs - I always give them a pure white background in Paintshop nowadays, so it didn't take long to edit them in. I had meant to colourize it into brown, but it didn't work out That can be arranged. I would be willing to trade/sell the track parts and rechargable car chassis, and the rest of the set is easily buildable from spare parts. PM me if you want to discuss it Eyes? Yes, I guess they do look like that - I was just trying to fill in the holes... Steampunk, Frogpunk, Cleanpunk - any of them!
  17. And take that! It looks better from a distance
  18. 76. 77. 78. 79. 80. 81. [ 82. 83. 84. 85. 86. 87. 88. 89. 90.
  19. 56-C Hey all! I hate those holes in the front hull pieces I wasn't too sure about the redness, but I don't have 2 BSBs... I've got too many brown plates Dual power engine. I love this photo The crew. Anyone think the one on the right looks like Captain Jack from Dr Who? CGI Backgrounds by Mister Phes More can be found here...
  20. Hi! I'd love to see some photos of that village What other themes are you interested in? N.B. I've given you your own welcoming thread here
  21. So be it...
  22. Very good question. TLC did in Cloud City, with Lando. But somehow it didn't look quite right... However, as TLC don't do many "medium" dark-skinned minifigs (e.g. Chinese, Japanese, mixed race), it is difficult to get a broad spectrum of colours in a crew. Therefore, a dark-skinned minifig would stand out as much in a fleshie crew as a yellow one. So maybe. Yellows have the advantage of many different expressions (inc. angry+scared) and oriental/native ones too. But fleshies look more realistic when used with dark-skinned figures. I'm thinking that a crew member like the black helmsman from POTC1 would be awesome! A similar character - Anaconda - also features in Brian Jacques' book The Angel's Command...
  23. Yes. There have been quite a few instances of pirates (especially Redbeard/Roger) cropping up in the Lego magazine. One example was back in 2003-ish when he appeared in a comic where a football (soccer to you ) team was teleported by Ogel (Alpha Team 2) into an underwater stadium... So really this isn't anything special, only that it's not a "minifigure" that has been seen before (previous comics have been photograph based)... I could say: Hey, look! They use Pirate hats on the Lego Message Boards! Pirates must be returning! -It's nothing unusual, just at a time of heightened hype, it gets blown out of proportion... I could also say: The Troll Leader in the latest Castle comic keeps saying "Yo ho!" and the Crownies call the Trolls "Pirates" (they are attacking in a boat), which proves that Pirate are returning! -Again, it's a coincidence. It may even disprove the return of Pirates, as TLC may compensate with lots of Castle Warships e.t.c...
  24. 2x2x2 inverted slope. This can be used to fill in the gaps in the rear half of the hull by the rudder bars when they're not being used for steering. It's also useful generally as a slope. 2x2 tile with technic pin on top and curvitude on bottom This is used to fill in the two holes in the front half of the hull. They've never used those holes for anything
