  1. I believe that licensed themes require less imagination and creativity than classic themes such as Pirates and Space because all major characters are already named and the story is set if we talk about franchises such as Star Wars or Harry Potter. It is very much up to yourself to set the story and names if playing with Space or Pirates. With classic themes there is much more freedom when it comes to building and backstory because you don't have to follow someone else's rules and ideas when building or playing. This of course only applies if you build or play within the world of a particular theme, it is equally possible to use pieces from licensed and unlicensed sets to make all kinds of random fantasy builds.
  2. Not for me. I don't like these non minifigure display only sets but I love the sails and the flag.
  3. I ordered some large imperial flags a month ago and they shipped them today. When I ordered the 6x4 imperial flag was listed as standard but now it is a bestseller piece. Have they moved the flags to Poland?
  4. Now is the last chance to make M-Tron MOCs with new trans neon green pieces because five different pieces are still available on pick a brick. I ordered some of them myself but the order is stuck at the warehouse because they are moving all pick a brick pieces to Poland. https://www.lego.com/en-gb/pick-and-build/pick-a-brick?color=49
  5. That is a very beautiful set! I agree that choosing only one is difficult. At first I thought about asking people about their favorite sets but then I realized that I would myself list at least 10-15 sets if asked that question and therefore settled for only one single set.
  6. I can't remember where but I have seen some chart with their yearly profit for every year during the 90s and it is very clear that the problems started in the mid 90s with sudden and sharp drops. In the 80s and early 90s they had very healthy economy and even rewarded designers for using pieces across themes. Then they started producing too many specific pieces and color variations.
  7. I prefer to complete my collection with old official sets from Bricklink and Ebay and buy the occasional new sets that I like such as the new Galaxy Explorer. I still like the Lego company but they lose a lot of sales when they only do Hollywood stuff nowadays and almost nothing for people like us that grew up with the original themes. I believe it is no coincidence that they started to lose money the year after they junior-ized Town. During those years they also discontinued Pirates and made really bad Space and Castle sets. They also invested too much money in a lot of different products like clothing and computer games during those years as well as having too many specialized parts. It is sad that they had to sell their soul to Hollywood to be able to survive. They had a working and profitable concept with the original themes which they should not have messed with.
  8. An excellent choice! You can see the Space Police Striker in the background in my picture (with the lights on). I think Benny's Spaceship is definitely a Space set because of the color scheme/style and the fact that Benny is a classic spaceman.
  9. Mine is 6886 Galactic Peace Keeper. It is my favorite for both objective and nostalgic reason, It was one of my first Space sets I got as a kid (back then I only knew it as "Rymdpolisens Spaningsskepp" from the Swedish catalogs), I was then very young, probably below the recommended age limit but I preferred Lego over Duplo. My dad bought me this set and we built it together on the living room floor. I love the design of the ship and the colors and the minifigs are fantastic. It can be seen in the picture below in the lower left corner parked under the monorail.
  10. Here's a picture of my pirate captain keychain I use for my work keys. For my house and bike keys I have a blue brick and for my car keys I have a golden brick.
  11. I bought a brand new baseplate with the new striped pattern underneath in the corner a couple of days ago. It is exactly the same height as my old ones. The one I compared with is from the late 80s or early 90s. The packaging of my new baseplate says "Made in Austria" and I believe that the old ones were also made there. In what region do you live and are your baseplates also made in Austria?
  12. In the late 90s they brought in a lot of new designers with fancy diplomas but with very little understanding of Lego. They even changed the title from designer to innovator. Maybe that's the reason for the sudden drop in design quality?
  13. I rated it as 5 (very good). Soon I'll have all the parts so that I can build it myself.
  14. I found this thread with very beautiful pictures of the Imperial fort from 260. Soon I'll have all part for my fort. In the meantime I can look at the nice pictures.
  15. I agree completely. Lego released 53!!!! Star Wars set in 2024, 21 Harry Potter sets and 37 Marvel sets. If they wanted to they could easily make a couple of Pirates, Space and Castle sets every year or focus on one original theme every year and release 5-6 sets for that theme and then switch to another the next year. I'm 100% certain that this would be profitable but I believe certain people within the company wouldn't let this happen. When people like Peter Eio got more influence in the company in the mid to late 90s they started to dismantle most original in house themes. Before that he was held back by some of the executives but he managed to get permission from the ownership in 1998 to pursue licensing deals and then the downfall started.
  16. The Pirate Boats ride has always been my favorite. All Legoland parks are great in their own way but Legoland Billund is very special to me because I spent many happy childhood summers in Denmark and we always went there. We had an RV and drove all over Europe but we liked to spend most of the time in Denmark. Sometimes we also drove there with our regular car and then we stayed at Billund Kro (nowadays Refborg Hotel).
  17. I didn't get any answer from him but I talked to some other people and the builds are most likely MOCs. The creator is a member of the Danish LUG Byggepladen and the whole thing is most likely some sort of collaboration between them and Legoland.
  18. I've voted for you. I hope Tapu Island becomes a real set.
  19. Is Spyrius the most underrated Space subtheme? Their sets are very unique with the robots, especially 6949 Robo Guardian which is one of my favorite Space sets.
  20. But why crash test Lego vehicles? Minifig safety? When I was a kid I had a crazy classmate with a lot of money that used to set action figures on fire. This falls into the same category.
  21. I found these sails on an Ebay store I use to buy sails from. It looks so much better with cloth sails Has anyone here put cloth sails on 31109? https://www.ebay.com/itm/255245097311 https://www.ebay.com/str/passionforbricks3?_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l161211
  22. Beautiful! That ship looks fantastic! Some day I'll do the same thing. There is an Austrian on Ebay (passionforbricks3) who makes custom and replica sails for the BSB and other ships. Both one and two sided. I have ordered from him and the quality is very good. The sails are a little bit softer than the originals. If you ever need more sails I can recommend him. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264848766171 https://www.ebay.com/str/passionforbricks3?_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l161211
  23. I agree 100%. They should really cut back on the licensed stuff and focus more on in house themes.
  24. Always nice to see new M-Tron MOCs! You have some very clever part usage there and the white pieces look great.
