2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
SpacePolice89 replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I hope it will be a castle for the Black Knights with black and gray walls and towers. -
I hope not. A real arctic train would be much better. Maybe including something like 4533 Train Track Snow Remover.

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
SpacePolice89 replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
While Ninjago has a large variety of sets it is still too different from the classic themes to be able to replace them in any way or form. I get your point with Castle and Vikings in 2005 but on the other hand Castle had only 7 regular sets in 2005 and Vikings 5. -
Looks great! It's always nice to see builds like this one this time of the year.

Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
SpacePolice89 replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For me the golden age in general was from 1979 to 1996 (maybe up until 1998 or 1999) and I especially like sets from the mid 80s to mid 90s. My first sets as a very young kid were from the late 80s (Space, Town, Castle and Pirates) and I really liked those sets. I also admired older sets from catalogs. I was really excited for all new factions up until the late 90s. Around the year 2000 I remember being really disappointed with the direction of Lego sets and themes and concentrated mostly on my existing sets and trying to buy sets or bulk bricks from kids my age that didn't want their Lego anymore. In 2001 I discovered Bricklink, Brickshelf and LUGNET and started to order old sets online from the golden age. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

I prefer the yellow color and the larger cockpit because it makes the set look more different from the original while still being distinctively Blacktron 1. It is good that there are some differences because I also plan to buy the original at some point. -
Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
SpacePolice89 replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I grew up with late 80s and 90s Lego and prefer the style from that period but feel that around 2010 there was another "golden age". Junior ization was gone, we had Castle, Space, City and Pirates during that period and the sets looked like real Lego sets again, which 7213 is a great example of. I can look at this objectively because I was already and adult by then and have no childhood memories/nostalgia for sets from that period. Sadly the quality of City sets have decreased during the last years and we have no other original in house themes anymore. Many of the current City sets have too many large parts, specialized parts and bright pastel colors which make them look too junior ized. But some of them are very good like 60422. I think that there is not much innovation nowadays, most themes are licensed and Ninjago, Monkie Kid and Dreamzzz are too similar to exist at the same time. These three sets (all from 2024) are from those separate themes but look very very similar in every aspect: Ninjago: 71821, Dreamzzz: 71485, Monkie Kid: 80053. It is totally irresponsible to have three such themes concurrently and they should kill off Dreamzzz and Monkie Kid immediately because having them all at the same time is like having three Pirates themes with similar ships and forts at the same time. Ninjago is the natural choice to keep because of it's popularity and success while the others just feel like bad copies of Ninjago. All three themes are some combination of mythical history and futuristic technology. With only one such theme two other in house themes that are different from Ninjago could be released instead. -
LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

In my opinion small details such suit creases look out of place on minifigs because their design is quite simplistic and blocky. Therefore I also prefer the classic smiley face and its variations. -

I think the Cruiser and the Galaxy Explorer were modernized in a similar way, the big difference in my opinion is that they made the GE much larger than the original wile they kept the Cruiser quite close in size to the original. I like all those sets very much, both the new ones and the originals. The fact that they kept the colors and minifigs in all those sets makes it possible to display them next to the older sets without looking out of place. I see why many people like the LKC but for me it is too smooth and studless. I still like it and if I would buy it I would make some modifications to make more studs visible (roof section and top of walls/towers). -

Same here. I also like all the retro sets to some degree but the Space sets are the only ones I like enough to buy. The Castle and Pirates sets feel too modernized and studless for me to be on my to buy list. I was really close to buy the new Eldorado Fortress but I didn't like that they replaced the classic minifigs with new ones and I also have the original which I like more so I didn't buy it. If they had included the original minifigs I would have bought it. I wonder why Space has original minifigs and colors but Castle and Pirates do not? -

The new Renegade is similar in style to the original Blacktron sets but a bit larger than the original Renegade. I think it looks great because I like sets that are not too much modernized but it is still different enough from the original to be worth purchasing. The Cruiser GWP is much sleeker that the new Renegade but they both have the original Blacktron 1 colors, looks and minifigs. I was more thinking about that both have stayed quite true to the original factions. They both have the same colors, overall shape and minifigs as the originals. -

I don't know exactly what you mean by treatment but I think it is designed the same way as the other Space sets such as the Galaxy Explorer and the Blacktron Cruiser. It has the same colors as the original theme had and the minifigs are almost the same as the ones from the 80s. I prefer this over the heavy modernization that is seen in new Castle and Pirates sets. -

I agree. In the Pirates section the new Eldorado Fortress has its own thread. The new Renegade should have one as well. Yes, back in the day me and my neighbor had different Blacktron sets and it was so fun to combine them. This inspires me to get all Blacktron 1 sets, I already have a complete collection of Futuron and SP 1 sets so Blacktron 1 is a logical next step. Some of the sets are the original ones I got as a very young kid and others I have acquired later. -

We can agree to disagree. But it is Lego after all so I believe it will be fairly easy to cover up the studs or even to expose more with very minor modifications. -

I think that they are equally good. I like both very much and I really appreciate the way they have brought back Space sets with original minifigs and colors that are the same as the original sets. The new sets can easily be placed next to the old ones without looking out of place. I think Lego should have visible studs, especially retro sets. Without the studs the sets would look like any other toy. -

Your MOC is really fantastic! Maybe you can make something similar with the pieces from the new renegade? -

I think this is actually a good thing. If they were too similar it would not make sense for owners of the original to buy it. I display the original Invader (Cruiser) next to the new Cruiser and they look great together. -

Will it be available online directly after midnight on January 1st? Then I can order it after the fireworks. My closest Lego store is in Stockholm and it is too far to travel there for a set so I have to order it from Shop at Home. -
