Maybe @Marooned Marin, or maybe it's the story of how he stole a load of apples and exchanged them for a ticket to the carribeans where he became rich reselling goats. Anyhoo, here's the (likely final) update : I am just unsure if the poster is high enough. What do y'all think?

[POLL] Which Prizes Do You Find Most Enticing?
Horation replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
@Marooned Marin, I think it depends on whether or not the additional prizes you win are provided by Lego or the budget of classic pirates. Anyways, update, 0816 EST, 10-08-24 : Steve's Hand Emporium by @bingowaldorf : 15 replies Tapu Island by Marooned Marin : 23 Steve's Treasure Hunt by KolonialbeamterdeMartinez : 17 The Merchant vessel Margaret Hamilton by Elephant Knight : 20 Escape from the Imperial Trading Post by A_Goodman : 25 Steve's Upgraded Cutter (The Untold Story) by Andy-Roo : 25 Steve's Double-crossing by YellowFrog : 12 Steve's Doom by MyFirstMOC-Hun : 17 (+1) The Final task by Math Wizard : 19 (+1) The rime of the ancient mariner by Samarth : 17 Steve's First Voyage by SpacePolice89 : 13 Steve's Hideout by MyFirstMOC : 12 Found Forbidden Fortune by thewatchman : 7 Origin of Steve the Merchant by SevenDeadlyStreamers : 13 (+1) Skull eye's Schooner by SevenDeadlyStreamers : 13 The King's merchant by Marooned Marin : 25 (+1) Enchanted Island by Me : 23 (+3) Infant Steve recruited as royal spy by lotr : 17 Steve's Childhood by MyFirstMOC : 18 Steve's Island Holiday by YellowFrog : 5 End of the pier by Elephant knight : 18 (+1) Steve's boat by MyfirstMOC : 13 Steve's origins in the desert by me : 36 (+1) Infamous Steve and the Fountain of Fortune by Juhlhaus : 15 Quadruplets? by YellowFrog : 14 Steve's Arrival in port royal by Captain Braunsfeld : 13 Steve's origins : Meeting redbeard by Oky : 11 International society of steve by BrynnOfCastlegate : 13 Steve meets cap'n tongs by SevenDeadlyStreamers : 16 from merchant to pirate by Yatkuu : 8 Shipwrecked Merchant Steve by LeChuck-MD : 4 Mini Imperial Trading Post by SevenDeadlyStreamers : 26 (+1) Without the critiques coming along for their first to 100 challenges, there's far fewer replies going around, just 10 in 2/3rds of a day vs the 500 of the first week, that's 60 a day vs just 15, so a drop of 75%. -
I've seen the result with official parts. However, I don't like it, this feels like the best option.
-
New update : I changed the statue head like @Math Wizard suggested. I also added a stickered flag on the boat, so as to hide the empty part @YellowFrog complained about, as for the water, there's no way to make it keep this shape with tiles, I really tried to no avail. I'll add in the microfigs post-feedback.

Well, @Christophh, I am working on the answer to your question. It shall be nautical is all I'll say (since I'm as of yet unsure of completing it in time).

[ENTRY][SMALL] RAFT: The King’s Merchant + Comic book
Horation replied to Marooned Marin's topic in Pirate MOCs
Before it looked good, but now it looks even greater! Well done, you've earned some rest for sure I'd say! -
[ENTRY][SMALL] Mini Imperial Trading Post

Oh, you've submitted builds on Lego Ideas? I'd love to see them, since if they are half as good as your entries they deserve quite a lot of votes! -
[POLL] Which Prizes Do You Find Most Enticing?
Horation replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
@Mister Phes, if it ends up helping your budget, I just don't see how anyone could claim the 100 Euro prize for entry replies, here's the update with 8 days to go (1530 EST, 09-08-24) : Steve's Hand Emporium by @bingowaldorf : 15 replies Tapu Island by @Marooned Marin : 23 Steve's Treasure Hunt by @KolonialbeamterdeMartinez : 17 The Merchant vessel Margaret Hamilton by @Elephant Knight : 20 Escape from the Imperial Trading Post by @A_Goodman : 25 Steve's Upgraded Cutter (The Untold Story) by @Andy-Roo : 25 Steve's Double-crossing by @YellowFrog : 12 Steve's Doom by @MyFirstMOC-Hun : 16 The Final task by @Math Wizard : 18 The rime of the ancient mariner by @Samarth : 17 Steve's First Voyage by @SpacePolice89 : 13 Steve's Hideout by MyFirstMOC : 12 Found Forbidden Fortune by @thewatchman : 7 Origin of Steve the Merchant by @SevenDeadlyStreamers : 12 Skull eye's Schooner by SevenDeadlyStreamers : 13 The King's merchant by Marooned Marin : 24 Enchanted Island by Me : 20 Infant Steve recruited as royal spy by @lotr : 17 Steve's Childhood by MyFirstMOC : 18 Steve's Island Holiday by YellowFrog : 5 End of the pier by Elephant knight : 17 Steve's boat by MyfirstMOC : 13 Steve's origins in the desert by me : 35 Infamous Steve and the Fountain of Fortune by @Juhlhaus : 15 Quadruplets? by YellowFrog : 14 Steve's Arrival in port royal by @Captain Braunsfeld : 13 Steve's origins : Meeting redbeard by @Oky : 11 International society of steve by @BrynnOfCastlegate : 13 Steve meets cap'n tongs by SevenDeadlyStreamers : 16 from merchant to pirate by @Yatkuu : 8 Shipwrecked Merchant Steve by @LeChuck-MD : 4 Mini Imperial Trading Post by SevenDeadlyStreamers : 25 I'll do all of the small entries later, this takes longer than expected I'm done! I have counted over 500 valid replies, I might have miscounted by a few though, so feel free to challenge these, and as always, the classic pirates staff have final say, not me and my estimate. -
Glad to see you like it, I'll see if there's anything I can do to hide the gap. Anything else that bothers you?
-
Here's an updated version for all to see : The gap doesn't look too bad, but it'd be a minute's work to switch it to the solution @Autumn proposed. Anyways, I'd love to hear from our (quite international!) new critics : @Christophh, Was denkst du? @Kwear, ce serait bien d'avoir l'avis d'un autre francophone sur mes créations.
-
After consideration, I have to say I quite like the sail, I was a bit concerned that it was strange when put sideways. But it looks as though lightning is coming from the kahuka symbol on the flag, so that's quite cool!
-
@Autumn , yes you did in fact suggest it. Sorry, I've gotten a lot of feedback so I haven't noted it all down!

[POLL] Which Prizes Do You Find Most Enticing?
Horation replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
@Mister Phes, who provides the tier prizes, is it Lego or classic pirates' budget? I'll add the list in an hour or so. -
Alright, I'll work on a new version with a level market stall, but my main concern is that it will leave an awkward step on the side where the slope continues. Alternatively, I could use the same technique as what @Math Wizard suggested.
-
Solid points you make @SpacePolice89, and I know some users here will dismiss it, but those concerns about workers' rights are valid. At least if you don't like Lego, buy from someone who makes their stuff in Canada (Mega Bloks) or Poland (Cobi), since I can guarantee you that those are close to Lego and of similar quality. And @DonQuixote the whole "but if we don't buy fakes from China, the poor children won't have any toys" thing is silly, since there ARE toys that don't cost that much (and if you can afford some electronics, you can afford a few toys).
-
Well that's yet another fine microbuild! A few notes : I really liked the various ways you make the sails, as they all look quite unique and interesting! I also appreciate the NPU you pulled off for the "shark" (I mean, it is a fish according to biologists...) and the small boat tied at the back of the ship. Also, I'm happy to see a really creative use of bucket handles (I'm sure you can tell I'm a fan of those by now...). As for the critiques, I like the square Steve best, and please don't use the one made from studs, as he looks, to quote some American politicians, weird. Also, the back of the boat is very tall, especially compared to the original, I'd maybe make it a little less tall, since it's currently more than twice the height of the hull elsewhere, while the original has an about two-to-one ratio in that section. Then again, this tall boat aesthetic looks quite nice, even if it's less accurate, so there's no need to change it, just a personal preference. P.S. I like the cannon colour choice, glad to see that my feedback was used!

[ENTRY][SMALL] Mini Imperial Trading Post
Horation replied to SevenDeadlyStreamers's topic in Pirate MOCs
@BardDandelion, that's where I disagree, since in my book it would be far less impressive if they just made a sticker for every single part which needed it, this shows much more creativity. I considered doing my own version of 6277 in microscale, but all I could think of was using stickers rather than building elements in certain spots, so it wasn't going to be much in the way of competition. -
Here's a potential improvement, what do you all think? I feel like the wall height is at least a little too low, so I'll remake it taller, but what I wanted to do is get some feedback on the wall itself, is it better like this, or was it better the other way? I've also added an apple on the floor like @Autumn suggested, should I add another or is just one extra one enough?

[POLL] Which Prizes Do You Find Most Enticing?
Horation replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
"As with Round #1, there will be TWO different Challenges; one for Building Entrants and another for Creative Critics. The Prizes have been split 50/50 between the two Challenges." from the contest rules on classic-pirates.com @Math Wizard, I am working on a full list for all the entrants, but I am going to need some time. -
[POLL] Which Prizes Do You Find Most Enticing?
Horation replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
There's one prize per tier for critics and one for builders (in their own topics). But you are free to make an entry and try to get 25-100 replies in it @BardDandelion. I'm sure it would be quite interesting to say the least. -
Glad to be getting such high praise from the master of micro builds! Yes, those are bucket handles I'm using, a little behind the scenes point I'll make is that they aren't actually covered by existing ropes in the render, but by custom ones I made in partdesigner. But the real-life version which I've seen and tested does work, though it's a little fiddly to make.
-
I feel like the point of the contest is to encourage feedback from others, which is why I always reply and consider it. Then again, one must be careful not to overdo it, or else it becomes the critics' build, and no longer is one's own.
-
@Marooned Marin, the method involves a number of "frames" (spaces in the factory). A recolour or new design = 1 frame, a new print is 1 frame, but keep in mind this is 1 frame per side you print on, so two-sided heads and torsos need more frames. Each department has a number of new frames each year. But they are able to share frames.
-
@Mister Phes, the name for this entry in the index redirects to Steve's First Voyage. Thank you to @BardDandelion for pointing it out.
-
I guess it depends on the situation, I don't like it. But you are correct that it has its uses.
