Except that this is your opinion-you do realise others can dislike something you like and vice versa, right? right? If it is flawed 100%, why isn't everybody agreeing with you? Weird, it's almost like not everyone feels the same way about something than what you do. Maybe go read the parable of the blind men and the elephant to see what I mean about different perspectives. And yes it is a choice, a defect would be an error in the making of the print, but even official pictures show the slightly softer white, and maybe if they've been doing it for ten years, it might just be intentional. Imagine a car company that starts using a slightly different set of wheels, if they use it on one car by accident, then you can call it a defect, if they use it on 20 different car models sold 1 000 000 times for ten years, it's hardly a defect, is it? And, by the way, I ain't gaslighting anybody. Just because this isn't pleasing you doesn't mean that I am gaslighting, and then you insist that you aren't vitriolic and then you attack me and make stuff up about me. Look, I get it, you don't like this set, so why, pray tell, are you sticking around like a masochist torturing himself? Nobody is forcing you to read this thread, and just because you aren't liking it doesn't mean you should suck the enjoyment out of all of those who do want it. In other words : JUST BECAUSE YOU HATE IT, DOESNT MEAN I SHOULD, go look at the other critics of the set, they are all polite and they don't go on attack rampages for no reason

A fun take on an old idea Theme (story) It's an outpost, and it has a lot of room for trade, but maybe add a couple merchants (instead of the soldiers), or even a small merchant boat, and could we please get shots of the interior? Since that is where much of the character of such a set comes from. But when it comes to the design, it looks charming, and similar to a colonial style port, with enough space to produce a variety of scenes. Now add a bell in that lookout tower and you could have an even more realistic outpost. Build Where to begin? The colour scheme is very white, but you successfully spice it up with a few other colours, the columns on the middle building are good, though they could be even more lavish with a cupcake piece on the top layer (or some other idea of your own making), and try to add a cheese slope or two sideways on the brown arch of the third building, like this there is a stud on top (gasp!) which looks out of place for that part of the build. Overall I love the execution of all three buildings (the third one, with the brown and white second floor looks really nice in my book, and the technique for the angled roofs is brilliant).

A small, clean outpost Theme (story) We can easily see the play opportunities here, a cannon, a bridge to fight on, some nice balance of the two sides-with one possible improvement being the addition of an escape feature in the wall. Arguably the whole thing feels very small, which reduces space compared to the 2009 fort-perhaps a more open, or even modular, style of outpost might have done a better job, because with 6 figures you won't have much space left on such a small design. Build One flaw of alternate builds becomes apparent, with this design being way too white-and missing arches compared to the 1990s version, in addition the sand could be less square. Overall the colours look a bit lacking- it's too modern, but without a lot of variety, try adding some yellow or maybe some masonry bricks here and there. Also, the bridge feels useless considering there is a safe way to pass over the water by going on the second level of the build-maybe keep the dock from the original in that spot. And finally, please consider ladders; these aren't the flying dutchmen, they can't jump to the second level. For what it's worth, you have done a good job of recapturing the original shape much better than I'd have expected.

A good reimagining of an ancient impulse set. Theme (story) Two pirates, with a gun cart, seems self-explanatory to me. This is a reimagining so I personally would have added something else-an animal, a small gem, etc... But this is your build, so it's your call. Build Is the cart solid? Some of the variants you tried looked unstable or weak, and while this build seems good, I'll be looking forward to the physical version. As for the island, it's the only lackluster part of the set ; it's symmetrical and I would love if the second layer were to cover a larger part of the island (it looks like a man-made mound and not a random beach- I would try to make it 1 plate tall per layer-might make it better). I do really like the colour scheme-black looks good for guns

Ok, now you're getting (as usual) needlessly aggressive- I never said it would be weird for me to get a high quality product, I merely said that I like the quality of the existing product. But I'm just saying that they maybe, just maybe, might have possibly theoretically under certain probably plausible circumstances chosen to make the prints like that, but what do I know...

[ENTRY] 6260/6257 Pirates - Shipwreck Island/ Castaway's Raft Remake
Horation replied to _R_R_'s topic in Pirate MOCs
Without telling me, I'd have thought this is a real set. Theme (story) There's a lot going on, which is good for play, and despite there being few parts, we have an island with room for a few pirates, a raft, a shark, a cannon, a cosy-looking shack, a palm tree and more! The single fish makes it clear this isn't a large, well-supplied outpost. There is no sleeping quarters, but then you'd have to make the island bigger. Overall, A+ with ease. Build Work on that island, it seems like it's shape was made in an island factory. There are nice suggestions already in the comments. The sail looks lovely, and better than cloth in my opinion (the flag parts do a much better job, in my honest opinion). The colour choice is much nicer than the original, without looking like a mush of colours. But please consider replacing some of those round 1x2 bricks in brown with "wooden" 1x2 bricks (you know what I mean). The fireplace is the best I've seen to date, but it does look like it's levitating, maybe tiles can fill that gap? Alternatively make that whole fireplace with tiles. It truly looks good : classic colours but with modern charm and you are using the full inventory to your advantage. -
Well, you make some fair points (and I'll concede that was a bit nitpicky), but do consider making the sails with cloth (you do have two months left, after all...)

[ENTRY] 6259 Broadside's Brig - Remake 2023
Horation replied to MyFirstMOC-Hun's topic in Pirate MOCs
An enlarged version of a classic, with a much better parts selection Theme (story) It's a brig, and it looks like one, albeit it is weird that it's called broadside's brig but he isn't present (not complaining-the original had the same problem). However, it has no water or boat, so where will the pirate escape to? The interior feels spacious but full, with some food inside (always nice to have some food in Lego sets), I'll forgive the lack of beds, since it is such a small set, but perhaps consider a hammock (for the men to sleep)? Build The fireplace is too small (not the only entry with that flaw), and while some folks like it when there are tons of masonry bricks, it creates small gaps when looking at the side of the columns, so I would alternate between such parts and regular 1x2 bricks, and this would be closer to the original style, and please consider adding a few dark red masonry bricks (like the 2015 wave), it'll make it look less uniform, and as I've said to many other builders, too much white looks too clean. Though overall the build looks quite detailed and uses a good variety of parts and classic colours. A nice concept executed well, I have little that I can complain about -
A tiny ship that looks like it was almost taken straight out of the design studio in Denmark! 1-Theme (story) It's a sloop... slooping (or whatever it is sloops do), the ship does seem busy, perhaps a little too much, but an official set would be just like that, too. It looks like an imperial ship- clean, with an orderly crew. Now maybe just try to find a way to make that gun lift off without the cargo bay being hidden. 2-The build Lovely colour choice! It looks like a classic set-but updated! Just really work on those sails, it's really weird how one side has red but the other doesn't, if you can fix that, then this'll be one of the best entries to date.

[ENTRY] 1872 Imperial Guard Camp - Remake 2023
Horation replied to MyFirstMOC-Hun's topic in Pirate MOCs
A lovely creation-I've seen really large fortresses that had less character than this super-detailed little Inn! 1- The theme (story) One can see what is going on right away-an old outpost where the soldiers are bored and have started their own Inn-perhaps just leave the bottles on the side along with a barrel, since this is supposed to be a children's toy, and right now these soldiers seem drunk! Not the most brand-friendly... As others have said, make it seem more used and less new. make that wall with the cheese slopes seem nearly completely gone by removing the top part, and add some sand red here and there-it's the right mix of classic red and modern palettes, and I agree with Dreamweb, the bonfire seems like it's about to go out. 2- The build There are tons of nice details, but the build seems...too clean,(I'll admit some of it is due to the digital render) add some colour instead of that white, it seems pristine but this is a run-down outpost, remove some white here and there and replace it (or leave it empty, like a hole...) Overall, a small set done well. -
[ENTRY] 31109 Pirate Ship Creator 3 in 1 revisited
Horation replied to eldiano's topic in Pirate MOCs
This set has some good, but it could use some changes What I really like : The brick-built hull has been kept, and there are a lot of details in such a small ship. 1-The theme (story) -The boat looks lively and busy, these pirates are ready for a fight! Good on you for not putting too many minifigures (it would look like a MOC), I would personally keep that skeleton, but perhaps hang it with those chains you're using as jib sheets and make it look like a warning, it would look great and add some realistic-ish aspect to the ship (trying to scare merchants without a fight was always an important part of the job) -I have to ask, why the pirate skull flag? It would perhaps be more logical to have this be a small merchant ship that was reconfigured. Or if you really want to keep it, show how the pirates have modified the ship in other ways (maybe throw in a couple of different colours on the hull here and there to make the ship seem like it has been used for a while and the pirates have made it their own) -Why are the pirates there? Are they carrying some gold shipment? Do they have a key colonial officer on board? Are they just looking for unlucky merchants to plunder? (this seems to be the likely answer). Whatever the answer, make that the central part of your design, don't tell it to us ; let the build speak on it's own, the ship looks very clean and well-maintained, hence why it looks like a merchant vessel to me. 2-The build Ok, so how are the pirates getting to the top of the ship? Are they jumping into the gun deck? Add some accessibility features (ladders and rigging). Alternatively you could make these be flying pirates (by giving them wings), I don't think it would be the most classic-pirates looking thing but it would be in the spirit of Lego for sure! And try to remove that front lookout wall (or make the ship a two-decker), like this it looks awkward, as if though the middle of the ship was removed by a giant and the remaining parts put back in place. Maybe expand that front pole and add a lookout on the bottom of that pole instead? The colours aren't bright enough, make that with classic yellow instead of this pearl colour, and unify those red, yellow and green parts on the deck line with a single colour instead and it would look a bit better (again-an opportunity to make the ship lived-in is given here. Finally, space out the cannons, and try to make the ship seem like your own, not just an update of a currently available set- 11 replies

Which Pirates sets have (or may have) problem with brittle brown bricks?
Horation replied to zinnn's topic in LEGO Pirates
I have encountered the issue on 2014-2015 minecraft sets (from parents' friends, so the parts were used), so expect the whole 2015 pirates wave to have the issue -
My thoughts on this set : -If you don't like the black docks, buy brown parts, this is a direct-to-consumer set, if there's no nearby Lego store, then you can only order online, and Bricks and pieces is therefore available to you, same with the female heads. -The design seems a bit too faithful to the original (though I'd have liked if they used as much yellow as the original) -The printing looks sharp, and I like the "weak" white, seems fitting since these soldiers aren't supposed to wash their uniforms every day (so having it be very white would be weird), only wish they had leg printing like for 10305... -Overall, a good set at an OK price (don't forget what inflation does to prices, especially when gas, and therefore plastic, go way up)

LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Horation replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I agree, I think they could do something similar to the helicarrier (76042), with a few miniature Y-wings, gunships and other such ships, arguably they'd all be way out of scale, but that's an acceptable sacrifice to not make it a 10-meter* ship. *30 freedom units I hope it's a full interior ; a ship without an interior is (in my opinion) like a car with wooden wheels : operational, but really weird -
I know this is probably a silly question, but I can't find how to make a signature anywhere (do I need to meet certain criteria to have one?), I have never used a forum before, so it's probably in a really obvious part of the help section and I missed it. Anyways, it would clear things up quite a bit if I knew how to do it.

You are a pirate fan? What is your favourite set (or moc if you aren't that big of a fan of any one set)? I'd have to say 10210 (even if it is a boring answer).

Hi, I am Horation from Quebec, I like smaller, play-focused builds from the likes of pirates, castle and space, but I also like random parts. The most useful part ever is the 2x4 and I have a preference for studs-on-top builds. To an hopefully long time on this forum! P.S English isn't my first language, sorry for any mistaeks
