  1. Thanks whung. That's got to be one of the best Brickmaster sets to date. Can't say which one I like better; this or the Indy Jeep. Both have a minifig, rare parts, and good design. While the jeep is very versatile, this set has more useful parts. I wouldn't mind getting one of these, but it does not justify a subscription for me.
  2. Well, Clone O'Patra said I should do a bigger set for my next academy review, so I posted this outside of the academy. Yeah, I forgot to mention the lack of weapons on this thing. I don't think it's meant for combat, more as some kind of travel vehicle or escape pod. But yeah, if he gets ambushed by zurg in this thing, he's screwed.
  3. I don't think voting for TLC's version is saying Arealight's is worthless, or degrading Arealight's service to AFOLs in any way. It's just saying which one you like better. I for one liked TLC's better from the start. It has better details and more Lego-like in nature. Can't wait to get one of my own!
  4. It was a normal day at Star Command headquarters when suddenly the doorbell rang. Space Ranger Oky Wan Kenobi went to open the door. Who could it be? It was Dunjohn, the delivery-bot. "Delivery for Mr. Kenobi" he said, and pulled in a large hover crate. Oky thanked him and Dunjohn left. Oky wondered what could be inside and opened it up... It was a new shipment of Space Ranger Mini Ships! Excited to assemble them, Oky started opening the first package... Set Number: 30073 Name: Buzz's Mini Ship Theme: Toy Story Year of Release: 2010 Pieces: 20 Minifigs: 1 Price: FREE with Daily Mirror Brickset BrickLink Brickshelf The Bag The front of the bag is very similar to that of the Alien Spaceship promo, except the background image isn't quite as cropped. Again, it has the Toy Story 3 logo despite not being based on anything from that movie, but unlike on the alien promo, the picture with Woody & Buzz fits nicely since Buzz is the minifig included in the set. The back has the usual warnings and what-not. But unlike the alien promo, it has no ratchet Lego Club ad. Yay! Perhaps it's because it's a UK exclusive promo? What's interesting is that this bag is a little wider than that of the alien promo. Contents Inside the bag we find the parts, an instructions sheet, and the usual separately bagged head and jetpack of Buzz. The most notable piece here is the printed slope with the "Space Ranger" logo on it which otherwise only appears in Build-a-Buzz. The instructions are as simple as those of any promo set and are comprised of 8 steps. At the bottom of the second page, there are ads for three other Toy Story sets from different price ranges. Again, no annoying Lego Club ad! The Minifig With this promo, you obviously get Buzz Lightyear. He is the same as in all the sets, with good quality plastic and font & back printed torso (as seen in my review of 7593), but also with only half closed helmet. If there is another wave of TS sets, I hope they finally fix the helmet issue. Until then, I will keep complaining. The "Mini Ship" After the third step, it looks like a small boat from the City theme. Good job, Buzz, keep building! And done! Looks pretty good, especially with that logo on the front. It looks good from the back too, even though it would have been better if there would have been a flame piece or trans-orange cone on the thruster. This ship must be very high-tech since it only takes a steering wheel to fly it. Looking at it straight on, it looks much more three dimensional than the alien's ship while still looking very aerodynamic. While the top is very colorful, the bottom is very grayscale. Here it is with the fig. Thanks to his bendable legs, Buzz can seat confortably inside the craft. Buzz and the LGM having a little race. Buzz's ship is about two studs longer, but it has the same wingspan. However, it does not have any weapons. The only spare parts are a lime and a purple cheese slope. Yummy! Ratings Design: 4/5 - I like it better than the alien spaceship. It has a better shape and the logo at the front really adds to the look of it. Build: 1/5 - Very quick and simple with no surprises, even more so than the alien spaceship due to the lack of tiny tiles. Minifigs: 4/5 - Who can deny the awesomeness of Buzz Lightyear? Sure, he is not a very reusable fig, but still good to have. Playability: 1/5 - Just like the alien's ship, it's very swooshable, but that's it. The lack of any weapons doesn't help. Parts: 3/5 - The printed space ranger slope along with the lime and purple cheese are pretty neat, and the other stuff is useful too, but not too exciting. Price: 5/5 - Despite its larger bag, the piece count of this set is a bit underwhelming compared to the alien promo, but considering you get a main character and that this is a rare set that you could get for free with a newspaper, it's really not bad, especially since many non-licensed impulse sets usually have less parts than this these days! Overall: 4/5 - It's a very nice little promo, especially for being a freebie. It's a good way of getting a Buzz fig, be it for adding him to your collection or recreating my sigfig. It's not really a good army builder unless you are planning to create an army of space rangers (like me), but it wasn't intended as one anyway. If you can get it at a good price, and if you don't have a Buzz Lightyear yet, you should definitely go for it. Hi-res versions of all the pics can be found in this brickshelf folder. That's it for this review. I hope you enjoyed it. Watch out for my third promo review which I will post soon too! Special thanks go to Dunjohn who was so kind to send these to me for free! Parting shot: Space Skiing - the latest trend in space sports!
  5. Agreed. Have you seen the DC showcase film about the spectre? It's very much like that, except without Bats in it. Then how come it was caught with a non-magic lightning rod? Hm, interesting stuff indeed. Totally can't wait for Emperor Joker! And why would I have anything against Bats & the gang having a baseball game? Sounds fun to me, especially if the Joker is involved. Reminds me of the Kids Next Door episode where the KND had a bowling match against their villains. But yeah, their scheduling is quite annoying. They haven't even shown the first Starro ep over here yet. Perhaps they'll have a big comeback at some point and show both parts back to back. Have you seen the new movie, Under the Red Hood? It's very good! I'd even go as far as to say it's an instant classic! I wasn't so sure about John DiMaggio playing the Joker since his voice is so deep and raunchy, but he did an excellent job! The Joker seemed very deranged and a bit creepy in this which worked perfectly for the story. The only part I didn't like was when As cool as that was, that just made him seem too superhuman. I'm also curious about Superman/Batman: Apocalypse which seems to be dealing with some good themes as well!
  6. No wonder Lotso is always so grunpy! To be honest, I never thought his arms looked like feet, but looking at this MOC, they do work quite well as sort of rabbit feet. Nice work. I'm especially impressed by how you managed to hide his ginormous body inside that bed somehow.
  7. No, but they could be later on, creating a new empire for the the Avatar to fight. But I guess that wont happen. Yeah, but on the other hand, as it has been mentioned before, guns would give them too much of an advantage. A highly trained bender might be quick enough to melt a bullet, derail it, or freeze it in the air before it get him/her, or simply make a protective shield or armor out of hard rocks. But that would start becoming ridiculous. I agree. Even though this is a miniseries, they seem to put as much care into this as ATLA. Yes, a mixture of season 2 & 3 minus filler episodes sounds great! But it's still too bad since they did an excellent job even with filler episodes. Isn't that more of a hand-to-hand combat move? Either way, you're right, I can definitely see that knowledge being passed down and used in a fight against benders. Why not? It's just a matter of hitting a body at the right spots. And I don't know what qualifies as a chi-blocking master (if there even is such a thing), but she seemed pretty good at it, good enough to teach that art to others. But I know what you mean. It would be kinda lame if any non-bender could simply turn any bender into a noodle.
  8. Yes, there's already this thread, so maybe the mods could merge this topic into the other?
  9. Yes, it was a great episode. A bit cheesy and predictable, but good nonetheless. Overall, this season is pretty good. Much better than the movies at least. I didn't like the DaVinci episode so much though. Maybe there was a major joke I didn't get? Oh well. My favorite so far is the eye-phone episode. That was hilarious! Keep it up, Futurama team! @ Batbrick: Just out of curiosity, why did you like the "mountain of skulls" so much?
  10. That. Sounds. AWESOME! That contest would be made for me! But to be fair, there should be the alternative to build a Western/Woody's Roundup MOC for the third category. I really hope we'll have something like this some day, but I doubt it'll happen. Oh, and I think we should totally have another Town contest for the Collectable Minifig Series 2, just like the first one!
  11. Anyone who is sporting this tag, I'd say : Anyway, very impressive diorama indeed.
  12. Borders is having a Buy-one-get-one-50%-off deal on all toys. Here's the coupon.
  13. Care to elaborate why you're so much against it? I can understand if you're not a fan of the franchise like KielDaMan, but straight-out objecting it is a different thing. And instead of just saying "no", how about suggesting a better month?
  14. Glad to see so much excitement for a HP Month! It would be very much fun indeed, and there is lots of potential for contests and other activities! We could have a "Build a room in Hogwarts" competition. It could be any room, including class rooms, common rooms, bathrooms, or the Room of Requirement. Or perhaps a contest to recreate a scene from one of the seven books on a 16x16 vignette (and possibly other size categories), just like the epic scenes contest in the Star Wars forum. Maybe the mods can even use their "magic" powers to get TLC to provide some of the new HP sets as prizes! Either way, it would be truly magical month! Indeed I do! And as it was mentioned later on in the thread, we already had one, and a pretty long one at that.
  15. I hope it's OK if I bump this topic. I think it's time again to discuss! I would absolutely love a Toy Story or general Disney themed month, but I guess that wont happen for a while. But perhaps we could have one next summer when Cars 2 and PotC 4 are released? I also think we should have a Harry Potter month at the end of the year to celebrate the reboot of the theme! What do you think?
  16. Please don't get me wrong! I am NOT complaining! In the contrary, I believe it's a miracle that we are getting this fantastic reboot of the theme! Sure, the sets and minifigs aren't perfect, but great nonetheless! I don't know about Australia, but here in the states kids spend their Xmas money in January, so sales are usually still pretty good then, so I hope for the sake of the theme that this will be the case.
  17. These. Hehe, thanks. I hope it's not too raunchy for it being a Disney MOC. Beach party anyone? Well, they wont have much elbow space, but yeah, technically there is. Thanks! Indeed. Thanks, Svelte!
  18. I too am quite annoyed that Ron isn't in the castle or the burrows. I really hope they will have a magnet set with the trio so that we'll at least have a somewhat cheap way of getting him in addition to those sets (and to stock up on Hogwarts uniforms).
  19. Wow! That looks awesome! Instantly recognizable! Very good work on the jaggedy walls, broken windows, and other details! Cute 9 microfig too, though I think it would have looked better in brown. This is probably one of the only 9 MOCs here on EB, aside from my own 9 creation, and it certainly is a great one. I'd love to see more 9 MOCs from you!
  20. I can definitely see Lego having their own take on the waterwheel scene (Warning: the following pic contains MegaBloks!): I think I just lost any bit of hope I had for the new movie...
  21. Coming to a theater near you:
  22. Well, your arguments aren't really valid. You gotta keep in mind this is a franchise. They need to keep giving the viewers new stuff all the time to keep it interesting. If they were to stick to the movies all the time, things would start repeating as they wouldn't be able to do anything new. Sure, they treat Grievous and his abilities as a surprise in ROTS, but that's just because he was new to the audience at the time. It would have been confusing for the viewers if the characters would have acted as if they had met many times before the events of the movie. Besides, the only one Grievous really seems not to have met is Anakin, and Filoni already said that they are being careful not to let Anakin and Grievous meet in the series. And it would be pretty naive and lame to think that Grievous would have held back on using his second set of arms up until the end of the Clone Wars, or that every single jedi he used them on didn't live to tell others about it. Oh, you mean George Lucas, the guy who created this whole franchise? Yeah, it's sad really how little he cares about the continuity of his own saga anymore, and more about making money, which he obviously has more than enough of already.
  23. Yeah, eBay isn't the most reliable source for second-hand Lego. Bricklink is usually more trust worthy. Check out our list of trusted bricklink sellers in the BSTF forum. There, you can also buy/sell/trade with members right here on EB! Check out the EB Straightshooters list to see who is trustworthy. Hope that helped. Yeah, but then again, those are the people who don't know what the sets are worth, so you could end up making a great deal if you get lucky and the set is complete. But that's being optimistic of course.
  24. +1 for Dunjohn who was so kind to send me three Toy Story polybags quick and in good condition!
  25. I see. Well, I'm sure Mr. Filoni will be able to come up with some kind of excuse to talk their way out of this one too. They probably did it this way so that the little kids watching this show go "Oh, that looks like a computer world, so it must be a simulation". This show is really pushing the boundaries on how much you can ignore the EU. @ Brickdoctor: Next time, please make it a normal link.
