[MOC] Winter in the Raven's Wharf - Medieval City
LegoAUT replied to Kozikyo86's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Your builds never seize to amaze me! šš¤© -
I never liked the 3 in 1 Viking ship, tje colours, the helmets, all very fantasy like with hardly any historical accuracy.. it may be the case that this also plays into it being not that successful..

Nostalgia, printed sails (essentially new parts), maybe more minifigs.. but again, mainly nostalgia.

Any chance we could see a re-release of Barracuda Bay?

I hope so too! -

Is that so? Do you know the sales figures? And how could a controversy harm the classic themes? If anything, TLG may consider bringing some medium priced sets again. However, I personally think that the large expensive sets do indeed sell well enough, regardless of a few people complaining. -
Very nice!

I agree, combining two sets without changing much seems a bit pointless to me.. -
Scallywag Pirate appreciation thread - best Lego pirate ever (?)

Would certainly look great as well! :) -
No the BB set is not made for adults compared to their medieval (BB special) buildings like castle Blaustein, itās very obvious when you look at the grade of detail and piece count. I personally prefer all those things you donāt like and do not like the things you would prefer like printed wall panels haha. Guess itās impossible to please everyone. I believe the majority prefers newer building techniques over pure nostalgia though.
-
I agree with the general sentiment of your comment, I also think the BB fort is lacking.. something (cannot really say what). However I donāt see how the building techniques of Eldorado are more advanced, really. Both of them are mainly traditional brick on brick builds or what are the above average, more advanced techniques in Eldorado in your opinion? A fact is that BB offers much more furniture and accessories in their sets, an abundance of crates, bottles, barrels, weapons etc. but like I said, something is missing with regard to that fort. But then again, itās made mainly for kids, nor for AFOLs.

It is not clear yet whether the figs will in fact not appear on PaB. I am almost certain that the torsos will appear on there, maybe not the admiral hat.
-
I donāt know how this can be worse than not getting a set at all. First, you get 6 imperials, second, there will be more on Bricklink as well. So if you are army building and you donāt aim for 100 soliders, you should be alright.

Honestly, I love goats for historical MOCs but I would never ever pay the aftermarket prices for TLG goats.. thatās just crazy. -
I can only agree.. this is beyond amazing!

[MOC] Medieval castle at Ghent "Gravensteen"
LegoAUT replied to Imano's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Very nice and accurate build, congrats! -
So to get back to the topic, I personally do not care about the lore. It was before I was even born and I am not a child anymore that really intends to play with it or gives anything about āwhoā the minifigs āare/ representā. To me itās a generic officer/ commander of the fortress and thatās totally fine. Same with officers etc. I care about good quality minifigs though, so nice design etc. I think in this regard the set is fine (other than the mentioned printing issued). I admit that I also think the new crane looks more realistic than the old one that looked like it would not be able to lift anything significant. Of course it sucks that minifigs have no space to actually use the handles haha. However, the general design is improved imo and I deem it also rather realistic. A heavy duty crane has to have thick beams. Still unsure if I will get this, but leaning to yes. I am sure that besides all this critique, the setās price will increase after this goes EOL, similary to almost any Lego set, especially those in niche categories that are in fact very sought after.
-
Yes, thatās it. We also had them in the Austrian Guard unit where I served my military duty.
-
Isnāt it in the US, for instance? I know that TLG protects the minifig parts as trademarks in the EU, which is, from a legal perspective, a disputable classification for such a product but the only option since the patent ran out. They were not successful in claiming trademark protection for their pieces, but succeeded with regard to the figures. I believe in China they have no protection (regardless of the lenient way this is enforced there anyway). But producers there cannot sell to EU countries (which is why we donāt see those knock-off figures in Aliexpress etc.). I always thought that the figs are not protected by IP in the US any longer but may be wrong here. This happens already.
-
I understood it will be sold worldwide but in the USA only via Target.
-
Exactly, although I understand that the figure is no longer protected in some parts of the world, whereas in the EU, for instance, it still is.
-
I agree! However I was just referring to the form of the figure, not the print/ design. I understand TLG has lost protection of the minifig in several parts of the world but not in the EU, for instance, hence Cobi and others had to come up with their own minifig that looks different (i.e. weird š)

I am from Austria, we do not have BB stores here (yet?) but I have orderer a bunch of stuff there, among other things the whole pirate series (btw, they also have a two mast ship with cloth sails and 11 cannons for 75ā¬). The thing with BB is, they do not have any prints and they do not have minifigures. Even if they had minifigs, they would probably suck, like those from Cobi or Xingbao. Letās face it, only Lego minifigs are cool. Anyway, if you compare prices, the gouvernors island of BB costs about 1/2 of Lego. Similary to TLG, they waste most of the pieces on the raised platform rather than on the buildings, although they use burps (which they then cover and support with lots of bricks in the back), they also use plates inflationary. Their sets are hence very good part packs. Brick quality is not in par with TLG but itāa not bad and considering tje quality of Lego diminishes apparently, they are getting closer. Overall, in these playsets, they do make many things slightly better but some stuff remains like very narrow walkways and low walls. I mainly use those sets are part packs since they somehow lack the āmagicā many lego sets have (or used to have). They kind of feel empty (although they are not), if you get what I am saying. nota bene: you canāt compare the pirate series with their great medieval series around castle Blaustein which is definitely an 18+ model without any play features but looks so so amazing and like an actual Middle-European castle.
