  1. Thanks. There are some limits, but it works. This confirms my proposal: improved remote with 4 analogue and 2-4 digital axes (or possibility to use default BT gamepad), updated firmware and we are going in the right direction. Smartdphone will be required only to configure hub for particular model. It would :) But I'm afraid of the price and reliability of it. This can and should be improved immediately, even without new remote. Do you hear me Lego? Why spring? Just place to add lego shock absorber (which isn't really shock absorber ).
  2. I have no experience with Move hub, but the manual for 75253 Droid Commander on Lego site states: Can you tell me how can I use this set without smart device?
  3. It looks very nice, closely resemble the original. So great job! Looking forward for the instruction, will have to build it.
  4. That's it. That is why we want proper remote. Did you have to ask?
  5. Nicely looking build, you did great job. :) Don't show it to Unbrickme, he will explode from gearbox complexity.
  6. This is insane! Joy to watch, even if there are some glitches in operation. I admire your dedication (and working space).
  7. That will be quite limited group. I cannot imagine car or excavator running without remote. ;-) I have old QuickShot joystick that has mechanical switch on the bottom that disconnects return springs. Simple as that. If I'm not mistaken it is possible currently. There is function "TachoMotorSpeed" (I'm using RacingBricks naming here). It's more complex. Before switching to another defined angle position the motors wiggles back and forth to remove tension in the gear train. This can be done easily if there is procedure in the hub, don't know how it's done in the official app. From my perspective: is it possible to use 42100 set that will be freshly opened in the year 2100? Suppose there will be no smartphones then (you will have implant in your brain :-D ). How to control this set? This is what I don't like. True (even if I cannot see your pictures/ edit: when opened in new window I can see them, probably http/https issue), but there are plenty of people around that finds it too difficult to set time in their VCR/microwave. Still, I expect average Lego builder to be above that. 1. True. 2. This is the reality, but I don't like to add app on my smartphone for everything, just for sake of having app. Besides this blocks usage of the phone. And lacks any tactile feedback. 3. The remote is "hidden" i.e. not advertised outside trains. And console style (PS3/4/5, Xbox) remote is much nicer to handle while operating up to 10 axes. 4. Why not just make possibility to use console controllers directly with hubs (as PyBricks allows) officially? Maybe the memory in hubs are too small or uP too slow? Maybe.
  8. Cheers then! :-) The issue here is economy of scale. Simple medium motor or Medium linear motor is barely used in lego sets so it's expensive on the market even when it's cheap to produce. The good old PF required your brain do do the logic, PU shifts most of it to the smard device. In reality we have no choice - the world around is more and more computerized and the better kids understands how it works, the easier it will be for them to exist in future.I can see it around me, when some ones are left in the void because their wireless mouse has stopped working (yeah, just the battery is dead). Similarly usage of spreadsheets - how many in your office can do anything more than just typing in the numbers? Simple formulas are too much, but it's really very easy one you try.
  9. Can be. It's annoying to pay attention all the time to keep it straight. Not sure what You mean. Wit PF there is no control what's the motor is doing. With PU there can be. The cost of encoders is really not that big, it's just Lego charging premium for it.
  10. I've build several skid steer vehicle and never ever both sides runs with the same speed. Small differences in motors, friction, no speed control and you are not going streigth. With encoders you program speed and that's it, regardless of load (to the limit of course).
  11. It is used. It's all over Aliexpress. I have 6 or 7 set of those and just use it as a drop-in replacement for Lego PF remote system. It works like a charm. Long range, no problems with sun, no problems with lack of direct line-of-sight. It works exactly like Lego IR, so there is also remote with 7 steps each direction, looks just like 8879 remote. Why you do not see it? Because it is not allowed to write about non-Lego stuff here.
  12. Dropping IR was quite obvious. Using BT is fine, at least it is well documented standard so any developer can write software for it. Using proprietary protocol will end up in legal battle at some point. BTW bluetooth is also radio. I agree not the first time with this. Especially with using current gamepads. As for the rest: - is "dumb" motor necessary? May be useful, but "smart" motor can do it as well, the only downsize is price (and maybe size), but with low volume it may turn out the same price. - less geared-down motors? Yes, it will be useful. - splitting functions into smaller blocks? Not really, it will take too much space. This is one of the reason Buwizz exists and is used. - physical coding blocks? Not really. It will be great for first steps, kinda "Duplo level" coding, but I cannot imagine building CAT with gearbox logic from them. - more sensors? Yes, definitely! Especially since they all exist in EV/Mindstorms/etc. - other? More flexibility in form of cable extension, socket multiplier (even if then we will lose the encoder data), lights that can be used on the same channel with motor, sound element.
  13. I watched the Unbrickme review and... Man, that's a lot of frames! For sure this crane was not meant to be used while building dam this way.
  14. You don't need special injection machines, those parts are small and does not require fancy process. Sure the cost of new tooling must be compensated at the beginning, but it's the same for all parts. This set is just overpriced.
  15. It's surprisingly quiet after reviews release. ;-) For me this set is semi let-down. It works nicely, has robust structure, the load sensing is good showcase of using tilt sensor. I don't like using such large frames. The whole model is only remotely similar to the LR13000. And it looks not very stable. I'm disappointed by the counterweights. Not only they are very light, but it's not possible to fix anything to it. The direction of using more and more specialized parts that simplify build seem counter-lego. Same here. I wait for RB reviews to see the "main building points" which he shows in very interesting way, while Sariel does not show at all.
  16. Power supply mods are quite easy, Li-Ion batteries are kind of "typical" today. Done few of those, non Lego, but still with custom power source.
  17. I buy mostly Lego, but made exceptions in few cases. First, we were buying large ship model for my nephew, that is not really into Lego or building in general. It was no point to spend 3x the money. It as ok, looked impressive. Don't know about it anymore. ;) Second, we've bought Elsa's castle for our daughter. Lego version was already out of sale. The castle is basically a rip-off, but the quality is only just lower than Lego. The bricks are still in the mix and actively used. Third, I started buying from Aliexpress electronics for Technic IR system. Their version works over bluetooth, so it works much better. So far the quality (both plastic and electronics) is good. And lastly I bought few parts that are not existing in Lego world, so it was really easy decision.
  18. Did watch the video and it's more than OK. No problem with it, it is nice to listen to others point of view. The title could be less "clikcbaity" though, as PoweredUp & Co was only one of the several subjects.
  19. Just checked: you're right. Not on the mobile. You have to press MENU to see those. I'm not even able to get to this page. But like I said: it's not really hidden, but since it's critical to the entry it could have been done much better.
  20. Opening times are right on the top of the front page. To know the location one can look at the Directions page, where no single line informs you about necessity to organize your own kid to get in. My point is: this really could be done better, but it is certainly not hidden deep in the terms & conditions.
  21. Not a single remark about "no unaccompanied adult" on the front page. None on the page about "What's inside/Overview". Sure, it is clear while buying tickets, but if you just browsing to check what's there, you're gonna miss it. If I was going there I would check the ticketing and FAQ, so it will be clear.
  22. My thoughts exactly. LEGO can protect their IP in a big way, they should take more care about all places that carry their logo as well. BTW: I looked at the web page of LDC and it is not so obvious that there must be kid involved. One can browse for a while without single information about it. It's not like it is placed on the front page right in front of you.
  23. This is really great looking set. And containing so many interesting pieces! Cannot wait for full reviews.
  24. You are confusing turning radius with turning angle. Small turning radius is when the wheels are angled a lot. When driving in straight line the radius is infinite ie. very big.
