Best 3d priter
Mikdun replied to Sentinel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's exactly why I'm asking. I can design pieces myself, but why reinvent the wheel? I also used reamer (drill actually ) for holes, but for the cross axles it's not possible. -
Best 3d priter

Part strength is one thing, but what about dimensions? I tried to print few elements (no tuning, just checked how it will go out) and the holes tolerances were way off - they will either not accept the pin or fall off without any resistance. Any tips in this area? -
I love it. I wish there were more 6x6 in that configuration. I can see nice protection of the underside gears. Any chance of more chassis photos (without the bed and cab maybe)?

I guess one would need to be quite close to the production/maintenance of Lego company. Plus, there are mould variants (when you improve or change something to the part) and "copy tools" (which are just clones, producing identical parts). Moulds gets used over time (or rather over injection cycles) and needs repair. If the damage gets too big it gets scrapped. Depending on the businnes model companies stores unused moulds for shorter or longer before sending them for scrap. It will be interesting to know what is Lego policy on this.

2025 Technic Sets Discussion

42147 B-model has 165 parts. When you replace brick build shovel with one piece and make few more optimizations... Remembe, we have helicopter with 56 pieces. O, it's polybag, but still. -
LEGO is considering abandoning physical instructions

To reduce amount of paper they will better use more parts per step. This will also make brain work harder. -
[MOC] Fiat s76 "Beast of Turin"

This looks great! It's one of those creations, that showcases what Lego can do. And the driver is nice bonus :-) The engine is driven by independent motor? -
Pins with holes or without holes? The explanation!
Mikdun replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The thickness reduction is too small to really influence cooling time. Material saving _may_ be the answer but I don't believe it. For me the most likely reason is to add just a bit more flex to the connection. -

Thanks, now I can actually see the string on some previous videos. -

Let's talk about performance!
Mikdun replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
In general when you add motor you reduce load on the current one (and reduce heat dissipation per motor). If it will eliminate the problem completely - it's not possible to tell, for sure it will heat up slower.- 42 replies

Great idea. The way you build the driver looks fun-tastic. -
42177 Mercedes G500 4X4

Both. Lack of rear diff is much more pronounced, of course. -
If I'm buying second hand (mostly, but last new set was 2021) am I actually doing it?

That's very hard to say as id depends on what surface you will run it. Generally the more steering lock the more it will be felt. Sadly no. On one hand smaller (like 42079 B-model), on the other hand in 1:1 scale. However since I used diff in my models I allways try to include one, it makes the driving impossible without them. So the only case when diff lock should be used is during slippery surface. -

As long as yu will drive straight there is no difference. When you start turning you will feel more resistance and finally wheel slipping. -
42172 - McLaren P1
Mikdun replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Fully agree. The gearboxes should resemble the actual units. Here it will be nice to see two lines: one purely for display (with as much polished look) and the other for play/learn (with exposed mechanism). Fine to use technic elements even in the City, but don't label such sets "Technic". :-) Going back to P1 - it's improved in many areas over predecessors, so I'm happy with it. -

At first I was not interested in the G500, it seemed to be just another technic car, another Land Rover... But the more I see the better it looks. I like the drivetrain without excessive gearboxes (that only causes issues). Damn, I should not buy another set this year...
