  1. Wow! Before I was born. 😅
  2. Great entry, Ayrlego. The first one has such a classic look. Where/when is that torso and shield from? The Dryad is great! My favourite hands-down. The combo of the fez and cape makes a great hat. Shield maiden is nice - really clean look to it. Could be official! Looking forward to more bonus vignettes.
  3. As others have said, this is a very clever theme for your entry. Details I like: the HP mandrake as the squashed head in the first entry; reviving the old witch head; perfect head choice for Boiling point; Belt of Virtue ; the Dwarven humiliation - probably my favourite.
  4. Cool build. I had to look up that boat piece, it is so well integrated into the hut I couldn't immediately see what you were referring to! Nice use of the green sausages as a plant What pieces have you used for the antler horns? Is that from the new reindeer?
  5. Really cool Louis. Great density and depth. Gives a real sense of lots going on and cramped smelly village. How high is the ground at the back compared to the front? Details I like: the red hand as a float; the reeds on the left; the green and black water. I have to say, though, I expected to see more fish in the build given that intro. Extra points for your last line in the story too. Where is the torso of the woman by waterwheel from?
  6. This is a beautiful build! The tree itself really pops with the colour choices and I really like those blue bell flowers. I like the technique for the tower rocks too. Where is the druid torso from?
  7. And... that build is Anton's Bait Shop, inspired by my CMF: Fish Tales.
  8. Notomys: Fish Tales | Avalonia Hot pools on the hunt | Avalonia The Rise of Slågö Farm | Avalonia Lord of the Flies Agaric | Avalonia Hunting the blue woolly eel | Avalonia Something was rotten in the state of Notomys | Avalonia
  9. The build: Anton's Bait Shop The story: Anton was something of a fixture in the sleepy hamlet of Notomys. The burly and gregarious fisherman was always ready with a tall tale or a free filet for a family in need. While his Bait Shop sold supplies – hooks and bait, smoked fish and seafood – many villagers stopped by more for entertainment. There was that story of Anton riding a manta ray right up the estuary; his claim to have caught a gorgeous naiad with his lucky lure (actually a rather furious were-beaver); or the yarn about how he drunk some visiting dwarves under the table – and what a low table it was! When the Drow incursions into Avalonia reached the Enchanted Forest, Anton was one of many local men lining up for the Notomys’ militia. It was a mixed-race contingent, reflecting the diverse population of the village and its surrounds: men and wood elves, jerboans and were-beasts, even the odd local orc. Unsurprisingly, the militia operated in a somewhat chaotic fashion but it did enough to harass and harry the Drow and buy enough time for support to arrive from a unit of fleet-footed elven stag cavalry. Sadly, while Anton returned from the war, he did not survive it. Shot in the leg by a poisoned Drow arrow, Anton was carried home by one of his fellow militia, a weathered grent known as Rimurapa. The unlikely pair had bonded when Anton shared a few, stumbling words of greeting in the old Druidic tongue with the tree-man. The fisherman had learned the phrase from his wife, a wood carver and devotee of the old ways, until she passed on after the birth of their second child, Gorki. Anton spent his final week with his children, Sofia and Gorki, retelling familiar stories. Most stories ended with a rip-snorting punchline, but they also contained wisdom and nuggets of fishing knowledge – where the fattest trout liked to sun themselves on winter days or the best bait for catching the rare, blue woolly eel. In truth, he needn’t have worried: although still a young woman, Sofia was a natural at crafting traps and snares that even the wariest crustaceans were draw to. Gorki was still merely a boy, but Anton knew the village would help raise him into a man. Still, fathers were fathers. Anton’s final words were directed not at his children but at Rimu: “Promise me, you’ll watch over my kin. Promise!” Rimu promised. Grent ways were mysterious, even to those that had lived among the forest folk for centuries. Anton couldn’t have known he would be taken literally by the grent with Rimu sinking his roots deep into the soft silty soil behind the fishing shack, going to seed. Years passed from that sad day and still Rimu stood tall, watching over the grave of the father and his dear children. Seasonally, the grent’s limbs bore juicy purple plums while edible mushrooms sprouted from his trunk. Between this and Sofia’s seafood catch, the orphaned siblings not only survived but were able to set aside a little coin. Sofia bought chickens – the lucky birds were allowed to shelter inside the shack when storms struck – grew a veggie patch with some gifts from the market gardener and even mended the leaky roof. The Notomys villagers did their part, too, by continuing to support Anton’s Bait Shop. Now, though, the roles were reversed: it was the villagers sharing their favourite story of the gregarious fisherman or supplying a free meal to a family in need. Build notes: C&C welcome and appreciated.
  10. Vial is the word I meant! 😅 Yes, there are zero Gold Horn Demon headpieces in NZ BL stores and only two, exorbitantly priced, kama! I actually get a kind of samurai vibe from Ulriq, which is cool. It’s funny aye, if you’d used one SW helmet I’d probably have thought NPU. It was just 3 together.
  11. Love to see the Alien Commander introduced in series W!
  12. Hi socialbricks. Another great contribution to the challenge! Marilla is one of my favourites. The Ashoka head and the Monkey Kid headpiece work perfectly together. I have the Monkey Kid piece on my wanted list. Did you buy the actual set or BL it? I think that series never made it to NZ due to COVID. Are tieflings new? Ivar is cool but I think the Priestess is my favourite of the Mitgardians. Gerti might want to investigate the desert Cyclops of Kaliphlin next - see my CMF entry #shamelessselfpromotion Brielle reminds me of Brienne of Tarth - in a good way. The naga is great! At the risk of channeling my inner Exetrius, to me the Nocturnus folks leap out as being from Star Wars rather than a GOH vibe. I do like the vile appearing over Magda's shoulder though. Very eldritch! I am also very impressed by the number of capes and wraps in the series. You must have quite the extensive collection!
  13. Me neither!
  14. Nice set! I think Zugal is my favourite, followed by Miyuko. I also appreciated that you included some non guild locations too. I know Yureishima was one of the proposed expansions. Were the others too?
  15. Great series, Henjin. I know there are a couple of comments about the multiple centaurs but I for one would have liked to see two more - one for each of the guilds! The contrasting styles for each one are quite the feature. Plus I'm all about more non-humans too. Quickroot is my favourite, followed by the female dwarf. NPU with the ruffles as mushroom gills too!
  16. This is really cool! The statues have come out really well; I especially like the chainmail helmet look - the studs out work nicely. The simple hand-drawn carts are nice too. I might copy that design for one of my own builds.
  17. Thanks @Umbra-Manis. That was a fun one to create and I am really happy with the hair piece on the victim. I think the upside-down Ninjago hair really simulates gravity pulling it down. Oh wow, it is perfect as a pair of jeans! Actually @Aurore, I see a scenario where the great vanquisher of tarasque would be the one to get invited Thanks @Grover. I had a few objectives with the write ups. As a new contributor, I wanted to tie them into the wider lore like the references to Archery Guild and the kingdom of Hesperia; I wanted to keep the backdrop of the war, hence the orphans, widows, and other solder references; and I wanted humour where I could fit it in. Hopefully I got the balance right. Thanks @Exetrius, glad you enjoyed the figs. And what a compliment to be reminded of Vince's figs! Thanks for the constructive criticism, too. I think you're right about Duned'in - he was meant to have a Mitgardian partner too who has the bottle but that guy got subbed out at the last minute. In hindsight, I think the "sunclops" brute should also have had a weapon rather than the flute too. Try telling a solo mother of three children that a supportive grandmother offers nothing!
  18. Love this. Really cool idea and great execution. My first thought was that these were halflings or pixies or something, hence the size of the books. But it’s even more epic for the scale of GOH to have them giant! As others have said, excellent clutter. I like the angle of the bookshelf on the right. It’s deceptive. What angle is it actually on?
  19. Nice work on the sunset colours! The contrast with the actual build colours is impressive.
  20. Beautiful stonework, even extending into the darkest of shadows at the bottom. 😊
  21. Nice!
  22. A magnificent temple indeed! Wow, how cool is this? Love to hear that the tried and true “gravity technique” played a key role. 😁 So many small details to soak up. Two I appreciated are the NPU of the sailor’s hat and Ninjago ‘snake skull helmet’ used for the small door archways on the far left and far right. 👌 Congratulations on this epic build.
  23. Spectacular @jtooker! Lots of little details to explore, while overall the build hangs together really well. What size is this MOC? I love the way you've done the water depth changes in the bay and the mix of tiles and 1x1 round plates. Good to see the korok made it onto the tower? Add a note of lore on them and I'll happily add it as another race on the wiki. Is that bear going to get the deer? Any story behind the lake ruins?
  24. Thanks @Grover. I've ended up getting diverted onto another build that will likely make it up first, but the trapper's camp will get here eventually!
  25. Thanks so much, @Robert8, for your kind words. I love those tentacle bases so had to find a way to work them into my collection. I can definitely see the potential fun of some Nocturnus builds! Thanks @Aurore 🙏 I was really inspired by your entry, not least the clever blurbs, which drove me to try and improve mine. Yes, I have some ideas for Lady Motu's ball. Maybe a representative of Embervale could make it along if you are happy with that? I thought the scarf just added a nice quirk to a tree man! Hat tip to @Henjin for the term "Grent". Poor wee Gorki! The other posing I like is Bayawarra - "scat" means animal droppings, so guess what that LEGO piece he is sniffing represents! Thanks @Kai NRG! They were all in pairs until Flix forced his way in as a last minute addition and booted out a second Mitgardian. Hopefully that Guild won't take it personally! I guess a pixie would have fit there too... The Varlyrians are meant to be husband and wife And yes, that is a single-molded double arm! When I saw it I knew I had to have it. It's from a Star Wars figure, Rio Durant: Thanks @jtooker! I am definitely open to tips on photography. The group photo is especially tricky. I admit that I copied the settings on some other people's photos to get them this way. I think there are a few marks on my camera lens too
