  1. Cool MOC. Reminds me of that white tree in Game of Thrones.
  2. @the Inventor and I entered the Space Jam 2021 Sci-Fi Corporation category. It's a team collab to show the activities of a futuristic corporation. We give you H Corp - Growing a healthier future together! H Corp is the largest pharmaceutical company in the Morel sector and is active across the entire value chain. The Exploration Branch seeks out new alien flora and fauna that might have beneficial medicinal properties. The Cultivation Branch farms and breeds successful bio-materials, gene-mapping their unique abilities. The Medical Branch develops and tests new medicines and vaccines, essential for uniting the multi-species society of the sector. The Exploration Branch: The H Corp Exploration Branch harvester, collects new alien flora and fauna that might have beneficial medicinal properties. When a new box of plants is harvested, the drones automatically carry the goods back to the transporter. H Corp Marine Harvester, model CHB-41, is affectionately known by its pilots as the “Chubby Subby”. It specialises in deep sea exploration especially the thermal vents where complex bio-organisms tend to first evolve. The Cultivation Branch: H Corp Bio-LAB farms and breeds successful bio-materials, gene-mapping their unique abilities, off the collected samples found and harvested by the Exploration Branch. The Medical Branch: H Corp Vaccination Clinic, located in the the Exarch Silvi Memorial Children’s Hospital, is one of the most advanced H Corp clinics. It conducts clinical trials on the latest medical developments. Comments and constructive criticism welcome! For me, it was only the second collab I've been involved in and it was really fun to see our concept and builds evolve as our ideas bounced off each other. Thanks, The Inventor!
  3. Was Walt not at the joust? Very cool to see them all together like this and get a sense of the flow of the whole story.
  4. I read this and Part II yesterday and wanted to say it was an enjoyable read! Thanks for sharing your story and stories @Louis of Nutwood.
  5. Two updates. I also entered this into the CCC XIX Civilian building. That meant cutting down the farm size to fit with the competition limits. I turned it into a flashback: The build: Purchasing Slågö Farm: The story: Yes, the house needed work; yes, the roof needed repairs; yes, the garden needed an overhaul - but it was their their home, their farm, their future! Grigor was so delighted that he rushed out and commissioned a beautiful sign announcing it to the world, even though that money would have been better spent on a goat. Marija, too, was filled with joy imagining growing old together and watching their children and grandchildren inherit the farm. Build notes: I hope you enjoy!
  6. First I’ve seen this trunk. Looks cool
  7. Thanks @socalbricks, once I thought of that idea for manure I knew I had to run with it! @Exetrius, I appreciate calling out the details you like. The vegetation is so much fun to work with but tricky not to have too rambling. Interesting comment about the well. My focus was on the base - using rubber bands in the wall and using the dimensions piece for the water (which is probably not even that visible). I then probably got lazy with the roof and undid my effort on the base. An interesting lesson on keeping everything to the same level of detail across a build. As for the archers, well, I need a force to defend the village, which will become clear in time. That element was story-driven rather than build-driven but I understand the point. @Louis of Nutwood thank you very much! Having just been looking at the magnificence that is Kallstark, that means a lot coming from you. @Servertijd - yes I agree! Steep learning curve trying new techniques, ideas and the bloody photography to capture what I've built. I'm getting lots of inspiration from the amazing builders here and their feedback too.
  8. First things that strike me are the trees and that two layer curved base. Beautiful colours too. I like the very fancy pig pen, those helmet mushrooms, and the rounded tower. I know you've built dwelves before - is there anywhere you've described who/what they are? I might write them up for the wiki based on your work at some point, if you're both happy with that.
  9. Wow! This is an impressive scale. Wonderful consistency is style across the front. As others have said the water looks great, especially the foam. And then there is an interior! Is it just me or is the scale of the outside and inside meant to be different? The outside looks like it is intended to be smaller than minifig scale... Everyone looks so angry inside, which matches the story . I like the extensive bookcase, the grounded use of the stair piece (i.e. resting right on the rock) and the brick-built ladders. Not sure I'm ready to try anything this scale yet!
  10. What a cool build and story. Doesn't Evrart realise she is giving the goblins free field exercises?? Overall, I am impressed that despite all the bley walls, it doesn't feel that way at all - lots of detail to attract the eye and keep it. Thanks for sharing details about your photography approach too. It will help me to be more patient with mine. I love the wooden floor - it look polished in some of the photos due to the reflection - and the wood stacked between the rooms.
  11. Thanks everyone. I learned scuba diving while I lived in Indonesia and loved the reefs there. @socalbricks, good spotting of the little antenna. I thought that was a fun detail like some kind of anemone. The eels are indeed a Galidor piece: gal32, the upper arm of the character Nepol. I ordered it on a whim but one I had it the mouth seemed obvious! Some of the minifig arrangement was just serendipitous. I'd just bought the Eternals set and the Miralian heads separately on BL so they were just sitting next to each other. Thanks @Kai NRG. That colour layout was sub-conscious, but now that you name it I see it! Thanks @Aurore, much appreciated. Good eye in spotting that clikit piece - I though the teeny jellyfish were pretty cute!
  12. Thanks for the comments everyone! @Blufiji, yes that was part of the inspiration. Thanks @Exetrius. The skeleton arm is meant to be a bone blade, but I didn't describe it in the narrative, so probably odd a bit weird. I'm really enjoying finding uses for that clip part from Vidiyo, used here for the fire brazier.
  13. Thanks @Exetrius messy indeed! Cheers @Blufiji. Marginea is a border town between guilds so far to add in a lot of variety.
  14. Thanks @Aurore, @Kai NRG and @Niku! It was fun to change up the scale, but the mushroom gills at least proved pretty fragile.
  15. Can we find an excuse for you to do another one during the year? An Easter or Pentecost calendar perhaps? :D
  16. Realised I never commented on this. I especially like the way the balloon pieces curves over the windows from the front view. I feel like it might have worked well to continue this shape toward the back, but appreciate you many have needed the other such pieces for the roof! I like the droid mushrooms - do you have a name for those yet to add to the flora and fauna guide? - and that cauldron.
  17. The build: Hunting the blue woolly eel (Anguilla galidoris) The story: Every spring, baby blue woolly eels migrated up rivers from the ocean, a highly anticipated chance to catch the small delicacy. Its ocean breeding grounds had never been found, a mystery the mermaid Ciara and her ikateren friend, Weroti, were determined to solve. They tracked the elvers into the depths of the ocean, fending off shark and other predators of the deep. Eventually, they came across an ancient seamount, covered with corals, kelp and other life. As they drew close, the pair saw two of the monstrously large blue woolly eels, their gaping maws displaying circle after circle of razor sharp teeth. Could these be the original progenitors of the tiny delicacy? Ciara knew no one would believe them - unless they could bring back one of the eels as a trophy! The hunters: Ciara was a young mermaid, living in a commune off the southern coast of Avalonia. For work, she tended the kelp gardens and warded off the giant sea turtles that liked to uproot the plants. She was often seen riding the wake of the Varlyrian schooners that traded goods along the Avalonia coast. Weroti was a wiry ikateren, a tentacled race allied with the mermaids. Weroti was the spawn of the local chieftainess and recently earned his coming of age tattoo on his arm. He was eager to prove himself as a worthy heir to his mother despite it being almost unheard of for a male to lead an ikateren school. Ikaterens were bipedal creatures typically patterned in orange, red or green. They had fins on their legs and a long spiny tail that aided in swimming and balance. They had black eyes and two wattles around their mouths. Build notes:
  18. Congratulations everyone! Well deserved! 🎉🎉🎉
  19. The build: Lord of the Flies Agaric The story: Mushrooms were big business in the Enchanted Forest and one of the best mushroom groomers was Flix. The pixie specialised in painting fly agaric mushrooms, making sure their white spots were vivid and perfectly round. While mushroom grooming was often a relaxing task, Flix was always wary of insect attacks and kept his rapier with him at all times. Build notes:
  20. Great as I didn’t know where the Kai torso was from and now I do!
  21. Thanks @Zilmrud. I mentioned to you on Flickr but worth repeating here that I looked over your Barrunda Manor several times for ideas. That farm is a bit better manicured than mine though! Glad it kept you entertained.I enojy trying to build off other GOH lore. I've been working my way through the back catalog, but still a long way to go. Thanks @Niku. I really liked your Borders of the Enchanted Forest too - maybe they are close by... Thanks @Aurore. Lime wasn't my first choice, but was the only colour I had enough of the 2 x 1 x 2/3 with 4 Slots parts. I'm happy how it came out though. Thanks for spotting some of the links to other builds. I even included another of the strange orange trees. Also, the "armadorses" are another one for your guide to Historican flora and fauna. Thanks @Kai NRG. So much lime - and I'm now working on another lime build. I'm glad you asked. Most of the melons are the heads of the little green men from Toy Story. There is one with a double antenna, which is the helmet of Killer Moth.
  22. Thanks Socal. Antoni's torso is the back of the torso of the boy from the Chinese New Year dinner set. Haha, thanks re Tan. The use of yellow arms as sleeves was proposed by @Sympatik Brick recently, and works well! Do you recognise the rest?
  23. Thanks Niku! It was a lot of fun. Thanks socal. The microfig is this piece, from a pretty weird set I have never actually seen before: "UFO Attack". I think I reversed the Black Panther torse for a slightly different look.
  24. Notomys was a hamlet on the southwest coast of the Enchanted Forest. The word "notomys" came from the jerboan language, literally meaning 'home' or 'world'; as human settlement increased, however, the name came to be used for the small estuary port that serviced the fishermen, hunters and farmers that settled in the region. The settlement: Agriculture: REQ: Slågö Farm: specializing in corn and root vegetables Hot pools on the hunt: mountain hunting grounds that supply the village Standing Stones Swap Meet: fungus herders breeding ground and trading market Grain mill Nautical: Anton's Fish Shop: specializing in seafood and fishing supplies Fishing village Medical: Elven healer Hospitality: Adventurer's Guild Bakery Stables Craftsmen: REQ: Mushroom groomers Labourer: REQ: Fur trappers' camp Sawmill Military: REQ: Slågö Farm: an women's archery militia defends the hamlet. Religious: Standing Stones Swap Meet: ancient druidic standing stones Temple Shrine of the Fallen Rock Golem The inhabitants: Despite its size, Notomys was home to many diverse races: CDC2 CMF Eyrezer: humans, jerboans, pixies, high elves Anton's Fish Shop: humans, grents, were-beavers Standing Stones Swap Meet: grents and mallowmen Hot pools on the hunt: varanan hunters Leaders Bewere: The Wulf-Tang Clan: were-beasts (werewolves, werecoons, weretygers, werebeavers) Guardians of the Galaxiflora: high elves, faeries, dryads, treants, drow Slågö Farm: humans, centuars, cyclops, gnomes and wood elves Fur trapper's camp: jerboans
  25. The build: The Rise of Slågö Farm The story: Marija Slågö ran one of the most productive horticultural centres in Notomys. While the land had always been fruitful, Marija’s hard work, shrewd business sense and innovation had taken it to new heights. This had seemed unlikely even one year earlier. Back during the Drow-Elf civil war, Marija’s husband Grigor had been wounded defending the hamlet. Several years trying to fight off infection and caring for her increasingly debilitated husband had seen the farm slowly neglected. When Grigor finally succumbed to death, Marija was left with two toddlers and one newborn. Some in the village urged Marija to abandon the farm and return to her childhood village. Marija had other ideas. Leaving would mean betraying her husband’s dreams and leave their children ignorant of the home they’d built together. Instead, she vowed to turn the farm around. First, her mother-in-law Đoris moved in to assist with caring for the children. The homestead itself was built around a large, stone storage room perfect for storing the root vegetables that were their staple crop. Accessed through a wooden ladder, the second floor was a single room, dominated by a large bed with enough room for Marija, Đoris and the two wriggling toddlers. The infant, at least, had its own cot. A small kitchen, play area and Gregor’s dented amour completed that floor. A small attic completed the structure. Ever since the war, Marija kept her bow and a full quiver up there; with windows on each side, she could defend the homestead from all sides. Marija’s second intervention was to sidle up to the local gnomish tinkerer and convince her to develop some new fan-dangled beehive prototypes. Marija had noticed that, the more active the farm’s bees, the more plentiful their crop. One of the local wood elves even volunteered to maintain the hives in exchange for a small portion of the honey. With the new beehives working a trick, Marija also increased the wildflowers surrounding the farm. While some neighbours considered this a waste of precious labour, Marija was convinced it would support her valuable pollinators. While she didn’t yet have a buyer for her abundant flowers, she was hopeful the well-to-do Varlyrian newcomer in town might be persuaded to purchase some. Finally, Marija also scaled up her manure production. She liked to repeat the story of the visiting scholar from the University of Petraea who’d tried to convince her that soil in the Enchanted Forest was so fertile, you could plant beans anywhere and overnight expect to find a giant beanstalk. The truth every Avalonian farmer knew was that soil gave back what you put in – and that meant compost. So Marija struck up a deal to secure copious amounts of the best manure available: centaur manure! Forest fillies were regularly seen lugging bulging sacks up Slågö farm track, leaving shortly after, light of step, and accompanied by the clink of coin. This season, Marija and Đoris’ efforts had come to fruition: a great crop of spuds and peppers; pumpkins, red and green gourds well on the way; and the full crop of giant corn sold even before it matured! Of course, none of it would have been possible without the support from the other women of the village, many of whom had lost their own relatives in the war. Inspired by stories of the Avalonian Oak Maidens and Sword Sirens, Marija was one of the founding members of a small archery militia, alongside the trapper Jultarra and the hunter Roisin. As a small way of giving back, Marija had chosen to host a banquet to mark the graduation of four new, fully-fletched members of the archer’s guild. First up was Ari, manager of the local delicatessen; next was the fisherwoman Sofia; followed by Bess, whose mother ran the tavern. The last to attempt the test would be the Cyclops Scythia. This would be her third attempt, having struggled to overcome her lack of depth perception. To assist Scythia, the other guild members had pooled funds to buy her a crossbow. Hopefully this time would be different - at the very least she had been warned multiple times not to hit the old beehive! The cast: The Slågö family and helpers Marija, Kalene, Miri, Đoris, Cara, the cat, the bees, Medb, the chickens, the armadorses The centaur gong farmers: Đamerus, Thalile, Sophare The archery guild: Jultarra (trapper), Roisin (hunter), Ari (delicatessanier), Sofia (fishmonger), Bess (publican's daughter), Scythia (Cyclops), Zara (butcher), Joan (baker), Alice (candlestick maker), Agnes (shopkeeper), Donika (shepherd). Build notes: More photos on my Flickr album.
