Yes 8258 is less complicated then 8285. But, if you got the change to buy 8285 i advise you to do so, it is a very very nice truck with (in my opinion) one of the best designs out there.
-
All of the three sets are great, but I especially like the 8258 Crane Truck because it has a nice gearbox, nice design and it is a classic. 8285 is nice too, but it is not a very complicated set. On the plus side it has a great design. 8110 is good too, but if you have/will buy 42043 you can skip the Unimog. PS: There is a topic in which you should have posted - but I think Jim will merge this topic in that topic.

This is very cool, new rims, new tires, nice green body. I really like it. I wonder how big the tires are compared to the Unimog ones. -

This car is epic, and I don't even like Technic cars . Just beautiful ! -
If I were you I would try to get more money and get the 42043 Arocs. But if you say you are interested in PF sets, why don't you buy the Volvo 42030 ? Maybe you can find it at a decent price and you get all the PF you need for RC stuff.
-
If by light stuff you mean bricks, then yes you can. The crane works fine with light loads.
-
Owning all of these I say the 42043 is the best in term of design and play value even if it does not have any RC elements. 42030 is nice, but is has less fewer parts and the design is not so great, but if you find it at a decent price you should get it.
-
Arocs all the way, better design, better parts pack, new PF elements ! The Volvo is good too, but only if you want PF elements and you buy 3rd party wheels.
-
Just today I got in the mail these tires and mounted them on my 42030. They fit almost perfectly, they are made out of an soft rubber but they got foam inside so there is no sustaining the model (maybe with the batteries on the back tires could flatten as the rubber is kinda soft). I got them with free shipping and I think 15$ is a great deal for four tires.

What set's to buy for parts?

42043 is a very good part pack for wheels, suspensions and Pneumatics. And on top of that is one of the best flagships out there ! -

Great review, many thanks for taking the time to make it ! I like this set very much, even though I am a Technic fan. The price is steep, but you get alot for your money. -
Very nice MOC ! I like the details and the gifts. Happy holidays
