Oh nice, did not remember that one. Its a nice begining but would deserve some more greeblig to be nicer. It also lacks the iconic line on the equatorial side. Whatever, that concept is I think the better alternative for the folks who want a purely exterior display DS.

Did anybody try to do a death star using the shape/structure of the set 21332 "Globe" ? I guess it would be an easy mod and a good alternative to this 1000$ death star. Plus the size would be pretty okay, the globe is not awfully large.

I was just gonna say the same. They are obsviously rotating on that type of joint. The set still looks very cool though.

Very nice mod, the coolest is that you only use parts from the original set. Makes this u-wing way more appealing !

Thanks for your comments, really nice to read those type of compliments from one of the first to have worked on the F40 in technic. The front glass is indeed a crucial part of the design for me. It's really a big part of the definition of the identity of a car.

This project was a true labour of patience, and I am proud to say that I was able to incorporate all the functions that make a supercar and to capture the essence of the design of the F40. I already worked on the F40 and posted it almost 2 years ago (link right below). It was a cool model but I still had always that feeling that I could do better. This feeling was emphasized by the other people of this forum that worked on this Ferrari like @lnteknik or very recently @Lox Lego. So I went back to my pieces and started to work from scratch on a new iteration of this legendary car. To sum up : I changed almost everything. One of the key features of the Lego model is the functional 5+R gearbox, which allows the car to shift through its gears just like the real-life F40. This was a particularly challenging feature to implement, but it really adds to the overall playability of the Lego model. The gearbox is designed to be smooth and efficient, making it easy to shift between gears and control the fake engine’s speed. The gearbox was inspired by GrayGear from Eurobrick, here is a link to his topic : His gearbox is a 6 speed, I worked on it to implement a reverse gear. Note that I reproduced the particular patern of the F40, the R replace the 1, the 1 replace the 2 and so on. In addition to the gearbox, I also included a functional opening mechanism for the doors, front trunk, and rear engine hood. This was a challenging aspect to incorporate into the design, but I am thrilled with how well it turned out. Users can easily open and close these components, further enhancing the interactive and realistic nature of the Lego model. Those components can also be retired to reveal the chassis of the car in a modular-ish way. Attention to detail was also a top priority for me during the design process. I made sure to include accurate design elements such as the air intake on the doors and the sharp, angular lines of the car's bodywork. I also ensured that the proportions of the model were as true-to-life as possible, making it instantly recognizable as an F40 to car enthusiasts and Lego fans alike. I am also extremely pleased with how the engine and its details turned out in the model. The attention to detail and accuracy of the design truly showcases the iconic engine of this legendary car. Furthermore, I the steering mechanism can be controlled by the steering wheel or by a removable HOG, which adds to the overall control of the Lego model. The steering is designed to be responsive and smooth, allowing to easily maneuver the car in any direction. Finally, I included the iconic pop-up headlights, which can be activated using a small wheel in the dashboard. This adds a fun and interactive aspect to the model, and further enhances the overall attention to detail that went into the design. Overall, I am extremely proud of this creation, and I believe that the inclusion of these unique and functional features truly sets it apart from other Lego Technic models. I like the improvment you made the huracan is definitly more recognizable here. However i find disturbing the fact that the wheels are a bit too much offset compared to the bodywork. I don't know if you get what i am trying to say. The wheels do not match the width of the bodywork. Still a great job though. Would be cool to see picture of the inner frame.

I made a modern version of the 8880 about a year ago. It only uses modern studless pieces so much easier to recreate but still keeping the original spirit. I spot a big AC Cobra inspiration here. Also the rears views make me think of an Lancia Stratos. Big fan of the color scheme.

Pretty cool mod I like how you linked the cars in a fluid way that leaves no gaps. Maybe it would be more realistic to change the color from LBG to DBG.

Really cool mod I was waiting for this one. This feature had seemed logical to me when I saw the car had a removable roof for the first time. But I was disapointed when I saw the big empty space in the trunk was not even used for a bag. Congrats.

An interesting subject for a context, very open. I wonder if a vehicle like a Mercedes Unimog with some handling tools would be acceptable for the contest. I think I would go for it.

Hey, little update about my creation. I just finalized the building on Stud.io. I tried a render and it looks great. I switched the wheels to white ( warning : this color is note available for this piece) to complete the tribute to the 8880. The model contains 2401 pieces, really close to what I guessed. I will now focus on editing the instructions, I managed to understand the tool by training on little sub-assemblies so this should be shorter in time than the building. Instructions will then be posted on Rebrickable, I was thinking about a price of 5-7$, would anybody be ready to pay this price ? I think it is not so expensive compared to the actual market of supercar instructions. Feel free to write any questions or remark.

Hey everybody, I have finally managed to achieve the final version of my 1:10 F40. Here are some pictures to begin. For this model, I mainly focused on the design. You can find all the important elements and shapes of the F40 as The pop up headlights, the red seats, the Ferrari logos, the rear wing or the four rear red and orange headlights. For the proportions, my MOC is not 100% accurate, I prefered to take some minor liberties to have a better look in Lego. The best example is the air intakes on the sides of the car. The biggest should be more on the back but it would have result in a way more complex build and would have break the fluid lines of the car. Now let's talk about the functions : The first one is the opening of the doors an the engine cover. With this, you can see the detailing of the fake V8 engine, it was very important to me because it is a major part of the F40. I managed to reproduce the main shape of this beautiful engine. I took only one liberty with the cooling fan, I added this cause it was a real plus to the movement of the engine To make this engine work I had to get a gearbox. It is a 6 speed manual from Dgustaffson13. I put you the link to the video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJCWIx35edQ Then we have the steering, operated by the steering wheel or by a removable HOG on the front. The pop up headlights follow the same system as my modernized 8880 but with a different shape of headlight. The last function is the suspensions. It is all independent and strong enough to maintain the whole car. To finish, let's look at the modularity and the details of the build it self. The whole build can be easily taken apart. First we take of the seats, the doors, the sides panels and the rear engine cover. Then we get the front hood, the engine, the rear axle and the rear bumper. We can have a better look on the front axle the gearbox and the engine. That's it for my F40, thank you for reading me and let me finish with a last picture of the car. .

So sad I did not win the contest despite the number of good comments you all gave me. However, I plan to work on building instructions but I have never done that. I know how to use Stud.io, is it good to do instructions ? Moreover, what about the price of those future instructions ? I would like some opinions and advice. Thanks.

From my point of view, i did not want to do too much so i kept the 4 speeds of the original car and juste changed the way of switching between the gears. Moreover, an 8 speed sequential gearbox would be very tricky here considering that you have to pass the steering axle in the midle of the gearbox. To sum up I prefered to keep a simple but efficient mecanic.

This is a 2020's version of the 90's 8880 supercar. Here are some pictures to begin with : About the design, I tried to keep the original proportions, angles and shapes as much as possible. I think I managed to keep the main look of the car. I of course reproduced the classic details of the car like the yellow lines, the white interior, the rear spoiler. My idea with this model was to use in the best way all the new elements that the studless era has brought. Those new elements of course include the panels, that I used to create a plainer bodywork. It also allowed to include new elements that missed to the original model, the best example is the opening doors. On the side of the functions, I created a whole new chassis and managed to keep all the original functions. I struggled to make the 4x4x4 configurations. But I made some changes in the original organization of the chassis. I move the HOG to the front. This allowed me to move the fake engine just before the rear axle, which make a rear central configuration, more realistic. The gearbox still has 4 speed but is no longer manual, it is now sequential with flapping paddles under the steering wheel. The sequential system has a limiter that stop the paddles if you want to move between 4th an 1st or between 1st and 4th. On the top of that, the pop up headlights use a worm to keep position, followed by a few connecting rods. The fold in perfectly. All the functions work well, the 4 speeds don't crack, the wheels don't touch the mudguards and everything folds in and out perfectly. On the following pictures you can see the rear axle and the fake engine : Here is the front axle with the headlight folded in and out : Here are the two sides of the interior where you can see the paddles and the limiter : Here you can see a part the underside of the car, precisely under the fake engine. I love how the tender is done. However, all the details on the track are a bit to much to me.
