LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

I hadn't even thought of that, if those are the only two RotS sets for 2025 that'd be genuinely hilarious. It would have been cool to get some other more distinctly RotS stuff next year, but I feel like it's been pretty well-served over the years so I guess I can't be too disappointed. I'm sure there will be more in the future too of course. As others have said before, there is so much material there for dioramas if that line isn't dead. -

The Malevolence arc is in season 1 I believe, that's probably his most iconic moment of the show. But yeah the other ones might be after where you stopped. As far as anticipated sets go, I wouldn't say I'm too excited for anything coming up since I've cut back on my Lego spending on general, but I'll probably get the battle pack and maybe the Plo Koon Starfighter for nostalgia. -

I wouldn't be surprised with Meero, but does this guy have any track record whatsoever? I feel like lately I've been seeing a lot of leaker names I don't recognize, but I don't know if it's because I'm out of the loop or if there's just a new crop of untested phony leakers. -

If the Plo Koon Starfighter rumor is real, I have to wonder what minifigures will come in it aside from him. It seems kind of strange to make a new set with and not include any of his clones, but most of the sets including clones that they've been putting out lately have been pretty clearly made with army building in mind. Maybe they'll just throw in Wolffe since most people would only need one of him, then put the regular troopers in a separate set later? Honestly though I wouldn't be totally surprised if the starfighter doesn't have any clones. -

Still not entirely sure that the Plo Koon Starfighter rumor is legit, but if it is I'm 100% buying it. The original was one of my first Lego Star Wars sets so it's quite nostalgic for me, and an updated Plo Koon (and maybe some of his clones 👀) would be excellent. Just hoping it's not too overpriced. -

New U-Wing is really cool. I assume that's for Andor S2, hopefully we get more than one set this time but even if we don't it's nice to know we're at least (probably) getting something good. -

The Arc dragon sounds quite interesting, I could definitely see myself buying that. Also, it's kind of funny that Kai's mech has "storm" in the name with how that's basically the opposite of his element.- 765 replies

Honestly that's not as bad as I expected, especially since the higher numbers is 2018 and 2019 can be largely attributed to there being new movies releasing during those years I assume. More would definitely be preferable of course but I guess we do already have a lot of specialized molds now anyway (it's not like they need to do updated versions of a lot of the helmet or alien head molds, at least in my opinion). -
I think there are definitely still some sets I'd have loved as a kid (like the Peridea duel or any of the battle packs really) but it does feel like there are increasingly less sets priced at what a kid will normally be able to afford. Even factoring in inflation, there was never a time aside from after my birthday or Christmas where I'd have had the money lying around for anything over maybe what would be $40 or $50 today, and even that's pushing it. Unless a kid is from a rich family and can kinda just buy whatever they want, it feels like the options are pretty limited, especially if you're not interested in microfighters or mechs (I was never that into the more gimmicky sets as a kid, though I might be the odd one out).

Yeah this makes the most sense imo. With a mold for a specific character like Jabba, they know it's basically guaranteed to be used again given his role in the movies. Probably doesn't make financial sense to toss it out if they knew he was gonna show up again sooner or later, although that does make me wonder if perhaps Lego had plans to include him in another set before this that ended up getting scrapped. -
Has anyone figured out what parts you need to order if you want to build the other model of the Deku Tree without buying a full second set? I'm mostly just curious how much it'll cost, regardless though it seems a lot smarter than buying two of the set unless you want to resell the minifigs and/or want the extra parts.

Wasn't planning to buy it anyway, but I feel like it looks kinda small for $500? I know Lego being overpriced now is the name of the game but even for the usual standards it seems really expensive. Price aside though it does look pretty hood. -
Doesn't sound bad but it's funny to me how many of these Endgame Final Battle sets we've been getting. I suppose they must be selling pretty well and that tracks with how iconic the scene has become, but this will be the third one in four years right? Just seems a little excessive.

I feel like the best shot at getting some sort of imperial base would probably just be a Death Star playset along the lines of the (false) rumor from earlier this year. Unless they do Endor at some point I just don't think anything else is really iconic enough to get a decently sized build, especially considering how few location sets we get to begin with. Now would be a decent time for a Death Star playset since there isn't an UCS version out, but who knows, maybe Lego is already cooking up a new one. -

Sure but anecdotal "evidence" is essentially all we have to go off, so I don't really see the harm in pointing it out. It's not like Lego releases sales data for us to scrutinize, and what sets get discounted isn't inherently indicative of them selling poorly and/or not to Lego's expectations. I think gauging the temperature online is at the very least interesting, and at least it gives us something to talk about instead of just blindly guessing what's going on and what people think. That all said, I'd kill for some hard data on how individual sets sell. I just find that stuff so fascinating, and in the case of Lego Star Wars, I feel like it would also settle a lot of debates about what Lego "should" be making to some extent. -

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Lego just so I could listen in on the decisions they've been making with the buildable characters and such. You'd assume they're selling well with how they keep making them, but I've seen zero interest for them online, and even in stores they usually seem like they're among the worst-selling sets? Perhaps they're just selling better than my (and others') anecdotal observations would suggest. -
I haven't look too closely, but I'd think not too many newly recolored parts? The only stuff that stood out to me as new or new-ish was the pink elements of the BotW Deku Tree but none of those get used in the OoT version.

Honestly, even if kids don't care about details it's still not that much of an excuse? Even if just 1% of the people buying the sets will notice, it's not like it costs any significant amount of extra money when we're just talking about incorrect cylinders or whatever. That's literally the kind of thing that could be amended with like ten minutes of research plus someone to double check things later, it just seems like such a minor thing in the grand scheme of making a product. Maybe it's a fair bit more complicated, but I am sure that at the very least Lego can afford it. -
Honestly given the state of both this theme and DC, I think the best bet might be to do a crossover. Batman vs Venomized Superman just makes sense. In seriousness though, I also am not really opposed to the Venom stuff if they get whacky with it. Having a Venom Dragon or whatever is more interesting than Spider-Man's High Speed Passenger Railcar imo.

That's legit the perfect idea for a diorama, I'm surprised I've never seen this suggested before (or thought of it myself). It's kinda interesting that all the dioramas have been action scenes aside from Yoda's hut. I guess that's just what Lego figures will sell better (and I'd bet they're largely right), but it feels like a little bit of a waste since those are the kinds of scenes we could be getting as playsets anyway. Scenes that are just talking and the like seem much better suited to the "adult-oriented" dioramas. -

I would not expect much given that, as has already been pointed out, it's not really a show aimed too much at kids. That said, I guess that's a pretty fair argument for why if they do anything, it seems more likely it'd be a bigger and/or adult-focused set? The Fondor feels like the obvious choice but doing something else like a U-Wing would be nice too. I'll take anything honestly I just want an Andor set that I'm actually interested in -

I think in the case of both the Jedi games and Outlaws, it's just a matter of popularity and the limited number of potential sets Lego can make. As was discussed at length a few days ago, Lego is making less and less playsets these days. That combined with the sheer volume of new Star Wars media releasing means that they can only cover so much in Lego form. I have no idea about the relative popularity of Outlaws, but we know that JFO sold over 10 million and the sequel sold around that or maybe even a little more (there's not much information on this though, beyond the confirmation that it sold better at launch). 10 million people is a lot, but a large amount of that number are people who would not be interested in a Lego set, either because they didn't actually play that much of the game (if you look at the percentage of people that have trophies on the PlayStation you'll usually find that a lot people do not actually get very far in their games) or because they aren't interested in Lego. If we're being generous here maybe that leaves 5 million people who'd be interested. 5 million is a lot, sure, but think about how many people have seen the Star Wars movies, and would buy a Lego set for themselves or a kid they know. I think the only real point of comparison are probably some of the less popular Star Wars Disney+ series, but you have to remember that Lego can't really predict how popular those will be. The Mandalorian ended up getting way bigger than anyone ever anticipated, so I'm sure Lego probably doesn't want to potentially miss out on that kind of money. And there's also something to be said for the differences in marketing between movies/TV and videogames; the former often get tons of tie-in media and merchandise at release as a form of marketing, whereas games usually don't get a ton of merch until they're already popular. Sorry for the long post (especially since I'm not even really responding directly to what you mentioned), but generally speaking I think this is the real reason why they don't touch games these days. If the content pipeline for shows and movies slows down in the future, maybe we'll see some game-based sets again, but for now I think there's just way too much other stuff with more eyes on it. -
Confirmation of a Spider-verse set is probably the most exciting thing to happen to this theme in years, at least for me. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but I hope that if this one is successful (which is all but guaranteed I'd think), we get more later down the line.

I was not expecting to get any of these, but the Battle Bus honestly looks really good and the minifigure selection is fantastic. I might end up getting it if I have the money to spare. The llama is not bad doesn't interest me at all, same with the other two. They're not bad but I don't really see who they're for? -

Thank you for the analysis, that was very insightful! This pretty much just confirms what I'd thought was the case (that we're getting less playscale sets), but I had no clue it was such a precipitous drop off in the last few years. I completely get that they'd scale things back now that there aren't movies releasing, but 13 sets total for 2024 is just crazy, especially since 2 of those are completely non-canon designs. In fairness to Lego, I do think they mostly used the lower number of sets effectively. I wouldn't say there's a ton of filler this year, most of the sets feel like they cover something worthwhile to me. Still, I'd definitely prefer to see at least two or three more playscale sets per year because 13 just feels like so little. On the topic of the new battlepack, I think it looks good. I'm a sucker for battlepacks so I'll probably grab one, though if it does end up being $45 I may wait until I see it on sale. Hopefully it's not too hard to come by.
