LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Meaf replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I was also a little surprised, but I assume it's just because the Super Battle Droids have been gone for a while. I think this is just really hard to tell without sales data, unfortunately. If a significant portion of battle pack sales are coming from army builders, then yeah I think Lego is going to start seeing the sales of clone packs fall off. But if the sales of battle packs are largely kids just buying one or two, I doubt it matters much what they make. There are other factors to take into account too, like collectors who previously didn't army build wanting to try it, and of course just new fans starting with the new battle packs because the older ones might not be available or as interesting. I guess all that is to say, unless there is some info that Lego has revealed about battle pack sales, it's probably hard to really know whether they are actually seeing diminishing returns. In a vacuum I feel like that makes sense, but for all the reasons I mentioned before that may not be the case. And on the other hand, if Lego keeps making them presumably they have done enough market research to believe these are going to sell? But then again, Lego has obviously been pretty off target in recent years (though I'd argue that applies more so to larger, less traditional sets). EDIT: Oh neat I hit 500 posts -
Same here, really hoping it did not end up getting cancelled. It makes way too much sense to a Lego Zelda set with how popular the series is right now and it's enduring legacy on IDEAS, plus Lego and Nintendo already working together for the Mario sets.

Agreed on the clones oversaturating the battle packs. I have definitely liked them so far but I don't really see why we need so many and so close together? Like if they are going to do two battle packs in one year like they did this year, why were they both just clones? I get not wanting to do droids since they are not that hard to get, but any of the factions suggested above would be great. Honestly it feels like we're very overdue for a new Rebel battle pack, but maybe they just aren't popular enough for one? -

That battle pack sounds about as good as I could have expected. Getting a remake of the yellow clone from the original clone battle pack would have been fun but having more generics is probably better overall, and aside from that it seems like pretty much exactly what I would want out of that concept. Hope the builds are a bit better than the 501st pack but even if they're middling I'll probably get at least one. -
I don't know if they were previously banned, but either way that is pretty interesting (and personally exciting for me). Given how weird SquareEnix is about using their IP I'm not sure that a Lego Final Fantasy set (let alone theme) is particularly likely, but I think it could definitely sell pretty well if handled right. One of the most iconic moments of Final Fantasy VII (itself one of the most famous games ever) has the main character riding a motorcycle; I'm sure Lego would be all over that.

Agreed on the sentiments about how weird the lack of new sequel sets is. I guess they just aren't popular enough to warrant it (especially since there is still plenty of new Star Wars media releasing), but even as someone who only really liked one of the movies, I'd be happy to see some of the other big moments (namely Exegol) covered. At this rate it feels like we might have to wait until the people who saw them as young kids get nostalgic for them, like what happened for the prequels. -

LEGO Ninjago 2024 Rumours and Discussion
Meaf replied to THELEGOBATMAN's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Wow that's really cool. I wasn't interested in it just from the name at all, but if it ends up anything like yours maybe I will have to get it. -
I'm not sure if we have any solid data as to how well it's doing, I assume it has to be for it to have lasted this long. The only other explanation I can think of is that maybe Lego is just willing to lose a lot of money to break into the Chinese market, but even that seems kind of unlikely to me since if MK was unsuccessful you'd think they'd just make a different theme.
-
I mean who knows maybe it's over, but I think at this stage it's too earlier to be too worried about that. The theme seems to be popular enough, and at this point it has already run longer than any other in-house action theme since Ninjago, which to me indicates that it will have decently long legs for some time to come. Obviously the situation is somewhat different, but the concerns over Monkie Kid being canned remind me of the perennial concerns that Ninjago is ended, despite there being very little evidence of that. If we haven't heard anything by next January then I think it is probably time to get worried, but for now I am of the opinion the theme is likely to keep going for a good while.

I know this isn't the case for everyone, but I wouldn't even mind a battle pack like the Jedi and Clone one again as long as the Jedi's robes are generic enough that you could use them for homemade background Jedi. My problem with the old one is that they chose to put in Barriss Offee, who has a very distinct design compared to basically every other Jedi (so you can't really make generics with her). That all said, I would still prefer if they just keep the Jedi and clones separate since I imagine most army builders don't need nearly as many Jedi. -

The gunship is really odd to me because there isn't really anything super overtly wrong with it, but it also just feels a little off? I feel like maybe it just should have been slightly bigger but I'm not sure if that would really be accurate or whatever. As for 2024 stuff, I think the only sets I'm really too interested in are the battle pack and Mando set. Kinda sucks we're getting yet another clone pack but I also am a complete sucker so I will definitely be buying it. I need to see the Mando set but it sounds promising so if it looks decent I'll get it too. -
No idea if they're remotely trustworthy but all I can say is that if that happens I am going to do that one gif of Pedro Pascal laughing and then crying. Would be cool for fans though.

I feel like it's 100% this, people seem to be forgetting that even after season 1 it took us quite a while to get anything else (and I recall there being speculation that the Razorcrest was fast-tracked to be produced faster so as to capitalize on the show's popularity, though I honestly don't remember if there was any evidence for that). Either way, I think that Mando season 2 only got so many follow-up sets because of how insanely popular the show is. The fact that Mando season 3 isn't getting much is definitely a little surprising, but the lack of Ashoka stuff is hardly a shocker imo. Also, unless I've missed something the only really big characters we are missing from Ashoka are Thrawn and Ezra (assuming they are in the show), and both of them seem like they are all but certainly going to be showing up in future Star Wars projects, so even if we don't get them next year I'm sure we'll be seeing them sooner or later. Edit: Actually I suppose Zeb might also show up, but again I think he's almost certainly going to show up in future stuff so there's still a decent chance we'll see him again too. -

I don't recall anything major, but I think I have been missing a few spare parts recently. I suspect Lego's QA must have taken a hit during the pandemic, and they either were unable or didn't care to get it back up to snuff. -
I hope not, I've been meaning to pick it up but I still haven't. Might need to get it second-hand while it's still affordable.
-
I don't mind the hair but yeah now I can't unsee the lack of continuity between the torso and legs. It's not even strictly a bad thing in my book, I just find it weird since Lego often designs torsos and legs to go together.

[MOC] Legend of Zelda TotK Flux Construct
Meaf replied to The_Fiery_Rooster's topic in LEGO Licensed
Oh wow, this is really cool. Love how you can reconfigure it into the alternate forms too. I could totally see Lego doing something along the lines of this at some point if we ever get a proper Zelda theme, although at this point I am not very confident in that ever happening. -
Hmm alright, I guess I'll have to give it some more thought. Also, question for people who have the Markets–is the rightmost roof tile on the the lower tram station supposed to be unaligned with the rest of that side of the Markets or did I just build it wrong? It looked right when I double-checked the instructions but that seems like a poor design choice because it means it can't attach to any larger modular Ninjago City sections.
-
So what layouts are people coming up with for the city? I have all four sets but I'm having a hard time finding one that includes both the Markets and Docks without it being a giant L shape.
-
Been building the Markets, great set so far although I am only maybe a third done. One thing I was wondering is whether these two parts are extra? I feel like typically they wouldn't be but I couldn't tell where I might have missed them when building (for reference, I just finished bag 17).

Minor question about the TV show since I don't keep up with it. I read a review today that mentioned something about the new mask prints on the ninjas' heads being related to some new ability–what's the deal with that?
