  1. Especially when it was originally rumored at $215, then jumped to $230 in later leaks. And the stickers are supposed to keep the price down, I can't imagine what they would have priced this if they had prints. It's still a decent price-per-piece ratio, but it really is missing some 'must have' bits to it. Value-wise, I think Viking Village blows this out of the water, even without a goat.
  2. You could always try and brick-build an octagonal shield and use the 1x1 Bar Handle piece as a shield handle. Might be a bit bulky, but it could also fit the aesthetic for a Dwarf.
  3. apparantly was known for a month. The news drop on the individual CMFs is happening since someone else confirmed the wave.
  4. More info - Dragonborn will reuse the Vidyo dragon head. Will have pauldron with some armor that partially covers chest. - Most CMF in this line will have new mold, aside from Strahd, Szass Tam and Tasha - Many will have Male/Female alternate faces! Meaning it's not actually a female Dwarf, it's (probably) Male and Female dual printing. - Halfling Bard is a typo, it is actually Half-Elf Bard - Flesh tones for humanoids, if anyone was wondering. Some darker shades of skintone for certain characters.
  5. Good eye, I didn't even notice the Rogue CMF Wolfpack badge had sharper eyes than the original
  6. I'm a fantasy creature collector. I haven't been too fond of brickbuilt creatures though I've grown to appreciate them more, the ones I've seen in the D&D set aren't really interesting to me. The original creator's dragon is much more impressive, while the leaked one's head is on par with the Skull Sorcerer's Dragon size of head which I absolutely hated (and ended up making my own). Nothing wrong with overlap, just saying that I'm not as excited for the set as I once was since I've gone ahead and made those same creatures with better moc builds so I don't need to spend $300+ on a set that gives me more of the same. The only thing that appeals to me would be the buildings and the figures, and I'll wait and see on the official announcement before I make judgement. These are just my first impressions. One and done's are also a gateway into new themes. Might take years until another tie in release, but with any liscence deal there's always the potential for more. D&D is a thriving franchise, and it shouldn't be a no brainer for Lego to capitalize on appealing to D&D crowd. I think we need to see how successful the sets sell first, since that's usually what leads to more liscencing deals. Money talks, after all. ---- --- Hot off the presses, looks like we'll be getting a D&D CMF wave later this year. ---- Insert other media
  7. It's an interesting set for sure. I like it a lot, it's got a lot going for it. The integration of the tower and the building with that terrain is really cool though, and I always liked the look of it since the voting prelims. I'm personally not as excited as the original announcement. In the past year I've built my own Beholder, Owlbear and a large skeletal Dragon, so I kind of have those covered already. I'm hoping Lego expands on the theme, it sounds like this has a lot of potential.
  8. I think I'm leaning towards this direction. The good thing about Lego is they always have their instructions up online for people to see. It'll be nice to take a look at how they make some of these buildings and replicate similar techniques for a custom village.
  9. That is fair. Personally I think Bricklink Designer Castle is a bit overpriced too for what you get. Literally $20 more and that's LKC price with many more figs, animals and some unique molds to play with. But I do like the concept of the Castle and the BDP, it just doesn't appeal to me as much now since I know Lego is pushing forward with making new Castle elements in new Castle themed sets.
  10. There's also the fact that their design is kind of all over the place, and even if we break up this one set into a half-dozen different ones, people would be clamoring to buy 2-3 of the good ones, and the weaker designed buildings just sit there warming shelves. Like I'd buy the right side buildings and that's it. I don't need the trees, I don't need the left side buildings. The left buildings are just weaker design, and I don't think many people would outwardly prefer just getting those ones while skipping the Inn and Tower. As one large product, it's a complete take-it-all approach that most Castle collectors and AFOLs will get anyways. Easier for Lego to distribute their product in one 'premium' set instead of splitting it up.
  11. I had a chance to get the set at 20% discount when Toys R Us had their boxing day sales. I kind of regret not doing so now, since I was mostly saving up for this set. Oh well, no regrets, the Viking Village will still go on sale again one day. At least it's not a Lego exclusive, and I can find better deals.
  12. I wish we would have known sooner about this though. I held off on getting Sheep and Calf (and piglet) just because I expected them in this set, and now they're retired with the Barn and Animals city set. My own fault, definitely, but Lego pushing the retirement 'early' certainly doesn't help. I really hate how they manufacture FOMO. Animals should really be a long-term standard, not something we have to hunt down at Build a Minis or wait for a perfect window to get on PAB.
  13. Medieval Square is definitely still on my list, but I think it's dropped a bit lower on priority than Viking Village. It's great, but still flawed. I know I set myself up with disappointment with higher expectations, but I really would have liked to see more animals, more shields, and at the very least a cross axes guard torso print. Wolfpack dude is a glorious addition, but not enough to make up for what it seems to be lacking. The left side of the building is definitely the weakest part of the set to me, and that's what doesn't justify it as a $230 set ($300 CAD). I can probably PAB all the torsos and animals pretty easily a few months down the road. To me, this feels more like a 'nice to have' than a must have. It's a decent build, but the roofing on the left side, the mismatching color scheme and the lack of 'life' in the set makes it feel underdeveloped. I'd need to add a lot of extra figures and mini builds to really make this place shine. The large buildings are a nice start, but that's about it really. I'm also not too fond of the trees since they wouldn't exactly fit nicely with the Lion Knight's Castle. On the plus side, we'll get new LK shield and new Civilian/Peasant and Wolfpack torsos down the line. I'm leaning towards getting Viking Village and some Wolfpack torsos and converting it to a new Wolfpack base.
  14. It's just blurry pic + illusion of lighting. If you look closely enough it has all its spokes. It weirded me out too, I almost thought they made a new mold just for that....
  15. Been voicing my disappointment on Discord for a while, so I'm a bit more tempered now. - No farm animals really sucks, especially since they retired the sheep and calf and piglets. If only we knew. - Buildings on the left have lackluster roofing. Looks undercooked. - Colors don't seem as good as the original leak. Tan roofing on the red is odd. Hoping for some better images. Wolfpack dude is very promising, and overall the buildings and trees are pretty well done. I'm still hoping for a Cross Axes guard.
  16. oh wow, I didn't hear about that. I mean, guess that makes sense since they do reveals to youtubers ahead of time, but didn't really kick in that it'd already would have happened already. Okay, so it's more than just a wild guesstimate, good to know.
  17. Ah, so there wasn't actually a leaked date for an announcement, this is mostly based on 'Month before release' speculation then based on the rumored March 1st/3rd release, right?
  18. Traditionally, release announcements are very close to actual release though aren't they? Like within a week or two between a teaser/announce and the release? I think there were even some sets teased a couple days before an actual release. I have to say, I did enjoy the Blacksmith teasers, and the hints we got for LKC through the Back to the Future teaser.
  19. I'm already preparing to address that by adding a couple more custom buildings in off white/yellow and dull blue. I don't have the original MMV, but I have other bricks in similar colors and an unbuilt Blacksmith in parts, so I'm going to make a couple more modular buildings in spirit of the original MMV in a more modern style that fits alongside the other Market Square buildings.
  20. Snow White cottage seems more in scale with Blacksmith than it would be for LKC/Medieval Market Square. Still a nice looking set regardless.
  21. I don't get why the mouse doesn't appear more often. They even use the old rat more often, while I see the mouse used in more promo material than in any actual sets. The mouse looks way more like Lego than the rat!
  22. I recently got a bunch of brown dark orange chickens from the Monkie Kid polybag. But it's as super hard to find polybag apparently, and I've only ever seen it once. Luckily I grabbed 4 when I did. I'd like to get some white chickens though, definitely.
  23. Countdown begins! Hype hype hype hype! I can't wait to see an official reveal. I'd expect it to be 90% similar to what we saw in the prototype, I don't expect too much to be changed. It seemed quite complete as a set. I'm really hoping they pack it with as many easter eggs as we got in the LKC though, especially with tidbits in like in the instructions. I know the LKC was special for being a 90th anniversary set so they packed more into it than needed, but as a spiritual successor to the Marketplace, Mill Village Raid and possibly even the Guarded Inn, I really hope they toss in some good info in the instructions.
  24. I like some of the additional builds in that moc. The bigger market stall, the outdoor stove, the little well; all would be great additions to the Market Square. The little stable and pig pen are nice too. I really dig the idea of adding side builds to spice up the market. I already have a small armor shop and a peasant cottage (which I made to accompany the LKC). I also got a bunch of the Monkie Kid market stall polybags to make a little market. Now I'm thinking of adding a Travelling Tinker's cart. Still thinking of other small things to add to really make it feel bustling.
